Glad I have something to listen to in the background to calm me down. Just stripped the head off my oil drain plug and have been slowly working it out for an hiur
I have the Buck tool 1"x 42" with 8" disc & 3/4 HP motor very smooth and quiet. Use it for knives. Very good for Handle shaping. Use Both belt and disc. Love your show
I got the bauer one had good luck with other tools in this line and belts are easy from a few places in ceramic and oxide I will end up modding the belt guard to remove what is not needed except to tension and adjust to get more angles on the belt its a good starting point until I get more specialized gear later if it is needed later
I didn't know Vevor made so many tools. I have their kitchen stand mixer for making bread and pizza dough. Remember to wear your respirator and earmuffs. Thanks for showing
Just for comparison: In the mid-nineties I bought several machines of this type through an industrial supplier. The brand may have been Jet. Price was $160 each. Thirty years, same price. Impressive.
I remember about 30 years ago I used to see a similar type of machine but much larger, had a disc sander instead of grinding wheel, made in Taiwan for maybe $300. I don't see them around anymore though.
I can't really make a comparison here. I mainly do metal work and have both a 6"and 8" bench grinder. The 6" has wire wheels on both ends while the 8" has stones. Several years ago, I bought the Buck Tool 4"x36" belt, 8" disc sander (#4801). I use it for both shaping and smoothing metal with anywhere from 40-120 grit discs and belts, depending on what I'm doing. When I do work with wood, I have a Craftsman belt/disc sander that I absolutely hate to use! It was broken when it came out of the box but, it was one of those "store closing" deals and it wasn't returnable. I've been able to make it work when necessary but, as I do more and more with wood, I've been looking at other options. The Bauer looks interesting and, I'll be checking into it.
Hello how are you? I am a fan of knives in Venezuela and I bought a Bucktool sander, I use it to make some bevels, handles and leather sheaths, only finishing, and the truth is that no
I am really glad I watched this I was going to buy the buck tool actually fixing to order it tonight but not now I think I'll go back to Harbor Freight in the morning the store is just up the road and go with theirs I've had good luck with Harbor Freight Tools so far everything I make my Knives Out of came from Harbor Freight and no problems as of yet the tool wrist looks really kind of like a toy there don't know what I'm going to do with that I really need something bigger and heavier easy to adjust I have the one by 30 sander and it's really been great it has a good Big Tool rest that's easy to adjust and it stays where you put it
@denoftools Are you doing a hedge trimmer video in the future? The massive amount of rain over the last few years here in Southern California caused my hedges and bougainvilleas to grow out of control. I need a more powerful hedge trimmer that could possibly cut 1 inch branches.
What is with the pliers om the grinding wheel?????? I must be missing something here. Love to see you grind somthing like a 1/4" HSS threading tool. (BTW, It takes a AWFUL lot of grinder to make up for the proper grinding wheel)
Use cubitron II sandpaper from 3M 2x less friction 3x faster grinding last 10x longer (and not only sandpaper, anything from cubitron II line is avesome for low power machines because you can get more from them and save money long term because they last way longer
A company like Vevor could learn a thing or two from watching this. Like maybe we don’t need to cut every corner and make it as undesirable as possible (but cheap!). Companies like Bucktool and even Bauer are able to keep costs low but still include a bunch of little things that make me much more likely to buy their products. For $17 more you get like twice the machine in that Bauer over the Vevor.
Great comparison! Thanks for sharing your experience with these tools. It's interesting to see how they stack up against each other. Have you tried any other grinder/belt sanders? I'd love to hear your thoughts on those as well. Keep up the great content!
Word of caution if you’re wearing earbuds wait to listen until you have regular speakers or just play it from your phone. It’s great to see the Bear doing actual comparative reviews.
seems to me that you should be able to disengage the belt sander while using the wheel or at least have a safety shroud as a precaution so you don't sand down your right elbow.
I found 4 in the garbage and bought 3 off marketplace all usa or jet or crapsman delta have stationary tools mounted on side or rolling toolboxes with portable counterparts and consumables in the drawers
I have the Hercules 8 inch variable speed grinder.. and the central Machinery belt sander with the Disc Sander attached on the side, I use them both a lot, great machines. I use the grinder to sharpen my woodturning gouges.
Hey guys, any advice for me? I am looking for a good quality stationary belt sander that is not a grinder combo like in this video. Something for a little sharpening, and little light grinding, and mostly pre polishing small pieces of metal, getting it flat and smooth before going to the buffer, I’m a hobbyist and learning tool and setting up my shop. Restoration and maintaining my newly acquired ranch/orchard. I hate underpowered machines. Anyone have a recommendation for a good belt sander for me to pick up? I don’t need a grinder side because I have two baldors and two 1hp jet grinders and a handful of other 1/2 and 3/4 Hp assorted grinders set up inline so I can just move down the line of grinders
IMO, these machines are primarily for metal working. In metal working 2 very frequent tasks are grinding, and deburring...in fact deburring almost always follows grinding. This belt sander isn't really meant for heavy shaping...It's meant for putting a chamfer on that bolt you just ground some threads off...knocking the burr off the sheet metal you just had to grind....
I have the Rigid belt " Asolating" sander Got it when they first game out at about $200 I used it a littler bit and works fine for $200 BUIT NOT worth $329 Keeping track of Rools and Disk is a problem Would Not pay more than $200
This style is what most people should buy instead of a regular grinder. They are basically very light duty belt grinders and are far more useful than a grinder. I rarely use my grinder and would replace it with one of the Bauer ones. Once you use a real 3hp belt grinder you are spoiled and will always want one. The Bucktool is not a knife making belt grinder it is a sharpening belt grinder. You need at least 2hp for knife making.
2hp is nice but I've seen hoof knives made on a 1/2hp baldor with a 10" expander wheel out of a mobile farrier trailer at a clinic, the man who did it was one of the best in the world though. Realistically a 1hp 8amp motor with a 2x48 multitool can do some pretty serious work even if it take a bit longer than a 2x72 with a 3hp.
The conversion is 745.699+ watts/hp * efficiency. A 250 watt motor is less than 1/3 HP, maybe WAY less. Motor efficiencies vary between 70% and 96%, so, 100% is about 0.3352 hp, about 1/3 HP, 0.3218 hp at 96% and 0.2346 hp, less than 1/4 hp at 70%! Just for your information.
It's a solid, single speed grinder. Sells for about $150. For a few bucks more you can get the dual speed Bucktool or if you move fast you can get a great deal on the Hercules variable speed grinder. It's identical to the shopfox and it's being replaced with a new model so it's on clearance. I have to admit I have a bit of a preference for variable speed grinders.
I think these are too much of a compromise. My Grizzly G1015 (good tool but crappy tool rest) stays separate from my bench grinders. Heck, I used it for years before I installed its buffer wheel. Get the bench grinder you want, get the belt machine you want.
I worked not even 10 hours and it went into a short circuit and slowed down, the windings are aluminum, that was it, throw it away, it seems the worst to me, even though I bought it because of its characteristics
Why didn’t you use the sanding belts that came with each machine? It looks like you used aluminum oxide belts which are like one of the lowest grade abrasive belts. The bucktool comes with 3-5 zirconia sanding belts which is a testament to the quality of the machine. It came with a higher quality belt but you tested it with the same low quality abrasives that the budget machines came with ? Idk this test didn’t make any sense to me but that’s just my opinion.
I know this is late, but I'm sure he used the same type of belt on all the machines because he wanted to keep the testing as equal as possible, since the main thing being tested was the capability of the machines themselves. Different types of belts can always be used, but that isn't the case for the machine/motor itself.
I've got my pellet grill/gas grill combo moved to the shop, can't wait for the pizza oven. I've also got an older electric grill in storage. Just need to get a charcoal so I can do some cooking video's. The plan is to do a cook out at the shop every Friday. If you are in the area you are welcome to swing by.
@@denoftools I'm up in Kalispell and maybe some day we'll get around to a road trip and say hi. Love your cooking videos and am always keeping an eye out for a Pitmaster BBQ/smoker. I do have to admit our old Webber still does a good job on pork ribs. 🥩
Vevor 👎 Bauer😢so so …I got the bauer sander with disc sander I’m unimpressed on sale for 99. You. Get what you pay for, the bauer just barely helpful.but it’s been handy for small tool making and sharpening
I usually keep one item in the shop for long term testing and then I'll either put them in storage for later comparison videos or I'll give them to people locally who I know will really use them so I can check back with them to find out how they did.
Glad I have something to listen to in the background to calm me down. Just stripped the head off my oil drain plug and have been slowly working it out for an hiur
Damn, that's bad - what vehicle is it?
Aw damn man. Patience

I feel for you. I'm doing the power steering pump in the suburban today. Just got to hope and pray that I don't run into something like that.

Thanks! I always appreciate your reviews and videos. Shine On
Thanks a lot for the support! If you have any other video ideas like this, let me know .
I have the Buck tool 1"x 42" with 8" disc & 3/4 HP motor very smooth and quiet. Use it for knives. Very good for Handle shaping. Use Both belt and disc. Love your show
Thank you for sharing. Great reviews, understand about the belt size on the Bauer.
that spindle sander is hands down the best power tool I own. it works so well
Thanks for the review. I just bought the Buck. I'll see how it goes. I too am a Montana Boy!

I remember about 30 years ago I used to see a similar type of machine but much larger, had a disc sander instead of grinding wheel, made in Taiwan for maybe $300. I don't see them around anymore though.
It's all about HP on grinders and the quality of the abrasives, period? Great job, Bear.
If it was my choice... I would put a metal buffing wheel on the grinder side and use it as a metal worker.
I can't really make a comparison here. I mainly do metal work and have both a 6"and 8" bench grinder. The 6" has wire wheels on both ends while the 8" has stones. The HF one has a larger motor but I bought the Bucktool because the backing on the sander is easy to remove making grinding metal easier.

Thanks, have been looking at this type of grinder/ belt sander combo, good food for thought. Nice review sir.
Rpm gauge? Nice to keep track of the speed. You have a link for it?
@denoftools Are you doing a hedge trimmer video in the future? The massive amount of rain over the last few years here in Southern California caused my hedges and bougainvilleas to grow out of control. I need a more powerful hedge trimmer that could possibly cut 1 inch branches.
No plans, sorry.
My OCD was kicking in, the belts on the first two machines are 2x27 not 2x28, and the BT is a 2x42

It would be extra nice if it had a dual power switch. 1 safety, 2 excessive db's. It is still on my tool list.
Do you think you could do a video on the best laser level set up? They’re expensive and I would love to know your opinion on the best
Got to be honest, at a quick glance, I thought the title was the "best grinder sandwich". Now I'm gonna have to go get one.
I have the Hercules 8 inch variable speed grinder.. and the central Machinery belt sander with the Disc Sander attached on the side, I use them both a lot, great machines. I use the grinder to sharpen my woodturning gouges.
Great video thanks I would definitely go with the HF
the bucktool 2x42 is used by knife sharpeners ,and they put a leather wheel for stropping.
Forgot the grizzley! I have one… looks just like the blue one tho

You need to use a belt dresser to unclog it. Otherwise the belt won’t last 5 minutes. Buy an edge sander instead. Much more useful for sanding wood.
What do you think of the dewalt 8in grinder

Yes I watched all that!!!
I think Bauer is over priced for what you get. I think central machinery is a better choice
Yes I did

I would rather have the grinder/polisher and a separate sander.
