It broke my heart as well, but it was a realistic end. I didn't want Ash dead, he deserved to be happy. And, at the end, Eiji had to follow alone with Ash's remembrances. But Ash's end was something predictable.

@@ateneiaaraujo2468 he is happy. He knows eiji loves him and he will be safe in Japan. Even though Ash was going to try and reach Eiji, I'm sure he will still have nightmares and ptsd of the sexual abuse he had to endure. I'm happy he's dead because at least he's free and he can finally fly
@@simsarethebest925456 Ash's end makes sense. People feel sad because they wanted him to be alive but, in real life, if he went to Japan, he would suffer a lot because of his past. Being dead, he finally has peace. You are quite right. I love ASh, Eiji and Shorter.
@@ateneiaaraujo2468 I don’t know but no matter how painful and dark your past is, you can always have the chance to find light and to become a completely different person. Just because Ash was sexually and mentally abused it doesnt mean he’s forever stuck in the pit hole of nightmares.
We can accept his ultimate fate but we CAN’T say it’s the better ending since there’s always HOPE in living. I will still be glad if they choose to let Ash live.

He was killed off cuz he was modeled after the real life celebrity River Phoenix, who happened to die before the manga finished it's run. So, since River Phoenix died, the mangaka killed Ash off. That wasn't the only reason though, I saw someone say somewhere that in an interview or afterword or something, the mangaka stated that "Ash deserved to die, cuz he was a murderer." It's like, wow, just wow, what about all the other murderers in the story that were far worse people than Ash? What about those monsters? Though, I dunno, maybe they all get some kind of comeuppance, I haven't read the manga yet so I dunno for sure.

We deserved a good ending.
Ash deserved better.
In conclusion, banana fish broke us. They we’re soulmates from the beginning, i’m in pain because they didn’t got their happy ending. They deserved it.
Do you remember when Ash said “i’m happy that at least one guy cares for me without needing anything in return..and it’s the happiest feeling in the world”? Ash really meant that. The look on his face was begging for Eiji to not get hurt.
Or when they tried to hold hands in the hospital? Eiji was harshly blinded by medicine so he couldn’t actually see Ash. So the last actual time they saw each other was when Eiji was teaching Ash how to say sayounara. It feels so painful.

Guys guys remember the OP? How Ash was wearing the SAME COAT in the op but it was SNOWING and it was at night. Also, we see Ash visibly holding his wound in his stomach, WHERE HE WAS STABBED. Final thought, we see him walking but not where, we don’t know wheres he’s going, maybe a hospital? The airport? It’s all just speculation but I feel the second OP was the true happy ending. I think the op was maybe a second ending? An ending of hope and not loss. An ending of life and not...death.

he's actually not dead :) in the manga he's 100% dead because back then lgbtq wasn't as widely accepted as today, but the anime adaptation hints that he is alive. Look up the video "Ash is alive, change my mind". They do a pretty subtle job in showing that he's alive but he is!
