This isn't about continuing Van Halen. We all know it's over, so stop whining.
Totally agree, and as expected, Sammy Hagar has turned what was supposed to be a VH tribute thing into the Sammy Show (shocking) No DLR, no Alex, just Sammy milking it or his own benefit, nothing more.
Alex is never going change his mind as he just auctioned every drum kit, drum stick and award he ever earned; all the $$ went to charity. I don’t think Alex has or ever will get over Eddie’s passing. As Van Halen fans we’re so lucky to have a legacy of music and memories to last a lifetime.

The issue is Sammy badly trash-talked the Van Halen Brothers in his book. It was a total bridge burner. Al will NEVER speak to Sammy again, let alone play onstage with him.
Which I thought was a bit odd. Eddie had no problem playing without Alex. Eddie played with lot of other people.

@@musicstream26 That chapter 'Crazy Ed' in Sammy's book RED was a TERRIBLE tactical error. He should never have put that out there. He should have had less need to 'kiss & tell sensationalize' to sell a book & more empathy towards Edward about WHY Ed went into that downward spiral.
I agree Sammy should not have revealed those things but, the reason he woke that book was as Sammy says he was kicked out of the band. That really hurt him bad. If what he has always stated was true.
Van Halen is over. Alex is making his own peace. Sam needs to move on.

I don't believe this is a money grab. Nobody questions that Van Halen is over. I understand Sammy wanting to connect with Alex and olay those songs once more and I'm sure Alex has his reasons for not wanting to. Can't blame either one for the way they feel
I lost my brother 5 years ago and he was my drummer in my band I don't want to play in another band without him especially all the original material we wrote so I understand that

Hagar is not doing a “reunion”. He’s not claiming to bring a VAN HALEN band on tour.
He’s doing a celebration of his whole career, which clearly includes a good chunk of VH career as well.
Sammy and Jason would gladly step off stage for a few tunes at one show so Dave, Mike and Alex could have a Tribute moment to Eddie. If that doesn't interest him so be it. Conversely Mike aint leaving Sam EVER!
It should be Sammy, Mike, Wolfe and Alex! That would be epic! That’s the correct way pay tribute to Eddie!
Wolfgang was NEVER a part of Van Halen, and never will be (meaning he didn't have a part of the original writing/recording of the REAL Van Halen bands). He does not play like Ed, and doesn't want to play like his Dad. Ed had his time with Wolfgang in the last Van Halen tour which, was not all that great. Not because of Wolfgang, but because it just wasn't Van Halen. Not to mention Ed was apparently very sick in that last tour, and maybe just wanted to go out and have some time with his son before passing.
Wolfgang didn't even stick with Michael's parts in the final VH, didn't really want to (he overplayed much of the time causing the foundation to be a bit hollow and scattered -- nothing against Wolfgang... it just was what it was), and the result was a Van Halen that sounded quite different in my opinion. You could tell at times Eddie wasn't even up-to-par at the end... he was dying of cancer for God's sake... how could he have been at his best when performing!
Wolf is a decent player on guitar, but not a very good foundation-laying bassist, and probably would not make a very good substitute for Ed on guitar either. I mean, he doesn't even want to use a whammy bar. That sounds a bit nit-picky, but let's face it, without a whammy bar much of the Van Halen songs are not the full EVH. Just saying!
Joe Satriani is a GREAT guitarist, but I don't know to what extent he actually wishes to duplicate Ed's parts. And I feel kinda' bad for Joe... people will unfortunately and ultimately judge him harshly for not sounding/playing exactly like Ed on this upcoming tour. Joe has his own style, and because of that I don't think he will do complete justice to VH songs. It's not his fault. But he's not Edward Van Halen... NO ONE IS! Speaking of which, as with Joe, Jason Bonham is no Alex Van Halen either, from what I've heard already. He's a very good drummer, but no cigar when it comes to Van Halen. You cannot play Van Halen songs the way YOU want to play them and do justice to the originals... it just doesn't work for VH tributes.
Having said that, I know a few Edward cover guitarists who could knock out Ed's guitar parts so well, playing and tone, if you closed your eyes you would swear it was Eddie himself. Why put this kind of pressure on Joe I have no clue... but the guys are friends, and it too is what it is. From what I've already heard it sounds ok, but will not fully capture what Van Halen was because no one in the current lineup will be able to fully capture Van Halen except for Michael and Sammy. And that includes Wolfgang, unfortunately. Just because he's Ed's son doesn't make him, and never will make him, Van Halen. Wolf isn't even into Van Halen's style of music... he's apparently more of an "Alt-Rock" fan.
As an aside, in my opinion, alternative rock pretty much killed what used to be considered guitar rock. Sorry to alt.rock fans... it's true! As David Lee said, "It ain't called "ALT Rock" for nothin'!
The last tour with Van Halen should have been with Michael Anthony... the way it began way back in the 70's in the ORIGINAL Van Halen. Michael Anthony was, and will always be the foundation for Van Halen... backing vocals included.
It's over man... life goes on and one day we're ALL going to die. If there is one thing I can say about life that sucks is it just that... we ALL die! Unfortunately, Edward's life was cut shorter than it should have been. Wolfgang nor anyone else will change that. Having said that, I ask what difference does it make in the grand scheme of things? Ed's not there, and Alex is not there. The current lineup will go out and have fun regardless of what it sounds like, and I suppose that's all that matters to them. I wish Sammy and the guys all the best... they ALL have BIG shoes to fill with this tribute tour... including their OWN shoes with respect to Michael and Sammy!
R.I.P., Van Halen. You gave me more years of musical pleasure than I probably deserve. As bad as I hate to admit it, it's really OVER NOW! 😧

Sammy was a millionaire before even joining Van Halen because of how he invested in real estate and property management. Then he became a BILLIONAIRE when he started selling alcohol. That’s why so many musicians and “artists” who have any kind of name sell alcohol now. You make one movie or record a year, your fan buys one ticket or album. But people buy dozens of bottles of booze every year. Anyway, very excited about the Best of All Worlds Tour!

What a difference in tone between Sammy and Dave, particularly towards Eddie and Alex. Is Sammy was really in touch with Alex he wouldn't try to call him out in an interview like this. Without Eddie I don't see any likelihood of there being a Van Halen reunion, although it might be pretty cool if Wolfie filled in for his Dad, it could work. Doing essentially a Van Hagar reunion might be nice for the fans.
How about a tribute and show of love and support like the Randy Rhoades Tribute? They all get together and take turns playing classic Ozzy songs. Everyone participates and nobody tries to control it. Everyone plays through the same gear Randy used. They could put together a killer Eddie rig and everyone could get up there and do their thing for Ed. Nuno, Phil X and so many other people do EVH so well it could be a real tribute instead of the clown show it is. Wolfgang is holding the whole thing back IMO. Alex could be the center of that Jam and let other drummers get in there too. Let's all get together for Eddie instead of fighting about it. They're all being immature and selfish IMO.
Will NEVER happen. Wolf is carving his own identity and isn't interested in playing with 76 yr old Hagar. PLUS, Sammy bad rapped Edward in his book and Al ain't too happy with Sammy. Doubt Wolfie would play with Sammy after he trashed his dad, Ed. (Al probably wouldn't be too happy with Wolf.)

What are ticket prices gonna be??? I bet at least $250 for nosebleed. Even the logo of the tour looks like the VH logo. This is a total money grab and I think this is disrespectful and it dishonors the Van Halen legacy.
This is how it should have played out. On the 1 year anniversary of Eddie's passing, all remaining members Dave, Wolfie, Alex, Sammy and Gary should have organized a One Night Only tribute to Eddie Van Halen and VH music. They should have invited 20 or 30 musicians from all music platforms to join in on jam sessions and have about a 2 hour show at the Hollywood Bowl. All ticket proceeds could go to a Eddie Van Halen cancer foundation. It would be over and done with and this whole thing would have been put to rest. Instead, we gotta see bickering back and forth with both singers and the fan base. I'm sure this is not what Eddie would have wanted.

VH has been over since the last Van Hagar record. VH3 sucked! ADKT sucked! The last tours with DLR sucked! The one thing no one is speaking about... Alex, as a drummer, is old. He probably can't play anymore, and that's why he's not doing it.
I thought VH 3 was an interesting experiment. And the Roth re union stuff was great too… at least between the family triumvirate of Ed, Alex and Wolf…and I know because I have most of the bootleg dvds…and you don’t know Alex’s physical condition one way or the other.
