Crystal is amazing at giving and not taking a thing from anyone. There's that content creator who's charging $4.99 to have him read a book on Zoom calls to recreate someone else pattern, has copied many other's content creator platform from their pattern, their way of vloggin to their packaging routines.
Someone in the comments said to get a portable clothes rack. I think get 2 or 3. Not too expensive, you can get them at walmart or Amazon, and some come with rollers. Have someone be putting the blankets on them behind the scenes for you and then just switch them out. I think thats an excellent idea.
Have the boxes to ship them handy, and when each one is done, someone can fold it up, put it in the box and the name written on the box.

Personally- that’s so much of a time commitment. Because, it’s not just the auction. It’s also shipping all of these out. You and your family cannot devote the entire summer to livestreams.
Let EBAY do 80% of the auctions, and do one or two live streams. The rest on eBay. It still means TONS of work for you and yours. Love all you do ❤
Agree 100% with @lisaaschermann5237. The live may generate more money but not everyone can attend and the different internet speeds seem to generate a lot of frustration. With eBay everyone gets more of a chance I think.
I 1000% agree with this idea! Do a cpl live streams to have a little fun...but let eBay do the heavy lifting. It will also give people a chance that maybe cannot keep up with a Livestream, or those who maybe feel awkward in a live auction type scenario. You know that live auctions can be chaotic....with eBay those of us that have to think things through can duke it out LOL! Can't wait!

I agree with the general idea of off-loading some of the work, but eBay is so impersonal. And you'd have to set a minimum amount for each afghan, which might be hard to determine. And it would be open to all of eBay, not just those who are invested in Crystal and this cause, but the rest of eBay who are there looking for a bargain. And it would still require a ton of work and time. And those who spent hours creating the afghans deserve the focus of the audience and accolades in the comments and the excitement of the responses during the auction. You'd lose all that on eBay. I think there are ways to make this more manageable and still offer the thrill of an auction. (I made another post with one suggestion of a way to share the load.)
Hey Crystal! I think you should do 1 or 2 shortish auctions per week at your own pace because if you do Ebay, they take out fees and then you won't get as much. Maybe get a photography background holder (looks like a pole on 2 stands for hanging clothes with adjustable height) and use that to 'hold' the blanket while you auction it off. I know your arms get tired holding them. I still believe you can raise over $100,000 but Ebay would take out those fees and YOU are a much better auctioneer!! The problem with eBay is the fees. If you can I’d recommend doing two live streams a day (to allow people in different time zones the ability to attend)- and only do like 10 blankets per stream (or whatever you can handle while keeping the streams shorter so you don’t get worn out!)
💜💜💜 you can setup a schedule ahead of time and maybe even post what blanket is being auctioned on what day by showing a list on your Facebook page.
I like the idea of knowing what blankets will be auctioned in each live stream. I'm sure people have their favourite blankets that they want to bid on. Waiting hours or watching multiple lives waiting for them to come up would get old real fast. It might cut down on the number of people attending each auction, but that could be a good thing. Less people, less lag (potentially) and the people there are the ones who want those blankets.
I think you should do the auction however you want. If Ebay would be easier for you, then do that. Yes, they charge fees, but those fees would be worth making things easier on our Crystal. What everyone forgets is you are paying shipping to ship each blanket off as well. I would say you should take 10% of the auction proceeds to cover shipping. It's a lot of blankets to ship this year. I love that you do this and that shelter is going to be excited no matter how much money you give them, so a little for fees won't hurt.
I believe Crystal does deduct shipping from the total revenue.

I have an idea about the auction process…
Maybe to save your voice you could add all the blankets and divide it into bundles… like say you have 200… divide it by 5 livestreams and limit your time to save your voice. Just be firm and only have that 40 in your room and when they are gone you’re done for the day…. Just a thought

To make the most possible you do the auction. Your love for yarn, knowledge of the stitches and yarns used bring the blankets to life. You say how it feels and how it looks in person. It would be easier on you to go with Etsy, but it won't make near as much. You bring it to life for everything and they get caught up in the live bidding. I can't wait. Love those episodes. Every afghan you hold up inspires me to crochet more. You are the best Chrystal. 💜

My granddaughters sister gave me bags of yarn... and some hooks .(belong to her gramma). So im 72 so yes they are very vintage yarn. I cryed going thru this yarn. I picked out quite a few granny squares she had made, BUT i found a." J gem" hook.. i was excited as you ..

I have to add that I enjoyed seeing the hooks with you letting us know what era they're from. You are not weird because you like to make up stories about the hooks. It shows you have an appreciation for quality.
The only issue I can think of with doing the auctions on Ebay is that they will send you a 1099 tax form if you make over $600 of sales in a year. I don't know if there is any kind of exception to that with a charity type of thing, but probably best to check Ebay's policies so you don't incur a tax situation you aren't prepared for, or don't want to deal with. Just something to look into. Love all you do!! ❤

Every single one has been stunning! Might I suggest a live auction for a portion of the afghans and Ebay for the rest? Be sure to mention all these crazy thoughts about "not good enough" when you put them up for auction. You know we will prove them so very wrong!

I have very old crochet hooks from my mother & grandmother!!! I use them all the time. Makes me feel like they are here with me!! My grandma taught me to crochet. I cherish their hooks. I told my son all my hooks have to go to Crystal at BOD!!! And you can give away any you dont want. I'm OLD, but don't expect to leave this earth anytime soon!! I've still got too many of your patterns I need to make!!! Haha! Its TRUE!!! I just cannot bear the thought of my old hooks going into a dumpster!!! So I know they'd get to a good home with you.

I never heard of last year's auction until it was over, so I don't know if this is plausible. If you already have a picture of each blanket, it would be nice to see them for a few seconds each, numbered 1 through however many. Then every 2 weeks (or whatever) over the summer you could live auction, letting people know from what number to whatever number will be on the auction block. That way they may enjoy each auction yet may be sure to see the ones that have blankets they want to bid on. (Really, who wouldn't want to see all of them?) You could do a test EBay with a small variety of the blankets to see if they will garner higher or lower bids than the auctioneer might get? It was sweet to hear Evelyn's comments over the gorgeous Mill Ends blanket.

The time, talent, and costs that went into every beautiful blanket to raise as much money as possible for Crystal’s Animal Rescue Auction is so kind, generous, supportive and absolutely inspiring!! Thank you to everyone involved!! So many animals will be helped!!🥹💕 Thank you Crystal for giving everyone the opportunity to participate! I realize that it takes a tremendous amount of time, energy and voice for you to do everything that needs to be done for the Auction to do the best it can. Please be mindful in pacing yourself the best ways you can!🤗 I know it will be extremely exhausting for you. That is something I know all about in major overdoing it due to my chronic health conditions. I don’t know how eBay works but it sounds like that might be a helpful option for some of the blankets. Truthfully, I believe that the live auctions would bring in more money than listing them on Ebay due to the interaction with people. The time you would spend on them is something you need to consider for your health and your family.
If you do decide to do the live auctions, I would take the total number of items and divide them over several smaller (2ish hours) live streams. Perhaps once a week. This will allow people who can't catch one to possibly catch a later one. This would also allow you to rest between live streams and save your voice and energy for other activities.
Having several auctions over a few weeks would also allow for a wider pool of people and funds to be available for people to spend.
The pro's of EBAY is you can set a longer time span for people to bid. If you do decide to do EBAY I would do the same thing. Put smaller 'pools' of items up for auction so items don't get lost in a LONG store front. If you put 10-20 items up at a time and give a week for bidding. You could do a shorter video at the start of auctions to showcase which items will be listed that week. This would be less time intensive than livestreaming each individual auction but would take more 'behind the scene' action to set up listings and take pictures of each item.
Either decision or a hybrid of options will bring in lots of money for the animals and I can only imagine the pride you feel with your community!

The problem with me is that I can't find one pattern I like and want to make. I FIND TOO MANY. You have so many great patterns and I've grown so slow.
