I saw this game on sale for *$0.88,* yet I thought I'd look up a review first anyway. It's nice to see CGR is still informing my gaming purchases in 2022!
Hey Lord Karnage, I will be completely honest here and say that when I heard that this game was coming out, I was excited for the game, but I was looking forward to this review even more! Your reviews are always hilarious and I love watching them! Thanks for being awesome!
Picked it up for 3 bucks on a whim, very pleased with it. It reminds me a bit like a Totaled on Xbox, except a lot more polished. I really like destruction derby games and was happy to see this game have a focus on that type of thing and have that kind of racing.
when I got the game, these were my exact thoughts. I hope it's a homage to the old PSX game and a lot of old action/post Apocalyptic movies. Dirt Showdown is awesome! :')
When playing this game on Advance difficulty, the game can be surprising challenging especially if you're not in the right car or didn't do a full upgrade.
The soundtrack had Enter Shikari in it. Whoever does the soundtrack is a genius. Aside from that, average game, but it is just a spinoff and not a serious DiRT.
I'm not talking about gameplay, as you can understand, I'm talking about names (because you called for it) and what they define. So "DiRT" is totally appropriate. But of course to avoid this kind of criticism about the gameplay they didn't called it "DiRT 4" but "DiRT Showdown". That particular word, showdown, recall some other kind of feelings (of aggressiveness for example) in conjunction with the word "dirt" that also evokes a particular imaginary. So it's a pretty good name, I think.
Mark how would you feel if I told you that the announcer also arranges the soundtracks for the DiRT games as he is a DJ with a british rock station called Kerrang.
Six is a score that should be respected more than it is. It is more than five. It's still less than seven, but seven just happens to be a greater number. That's all. But yeah, this game is way better than a five.
I felt it should of been called GRID: Showdown to be honest. Makes more sense seeing as that had demo derby in the first place. Then again, they couldn't slap Gymkhana and Ken Block's grill all over it if they had called it that.
Keep driving assholes! That's awesome, great review as always Mark. If you need any other games to review, I'd definitely try the Project Gotham Games, as well as Blur. Great arcade racing action for a cheap price, gotta love it.
I'm basing on what you said: you talked about a "name",a name is a term used for identification. So linguistically the word "Dirt" is not incoherently defining. Surely if Fifa Street was called Fifa Dirt would be ok because that name define with the prefix the core of the game (Fifa) and with a suffix (Street or Dirt) the name of the particular spin-off. Here's the same thing just, sort of, in an opposite way:Dirt is the core (because this racing game is based on it) and a spinoff name (Showdown)
After having nausea seeing "serious" mario kart clones and the autodrifting needs of speed, i got this game for free and got back to my childhood with the destruction derby
Dude, especially the physics are what drove me to this statement. I mean look at how lame the crashes look!? It is a fest of destruction everytime you race in FlatOut, FlatOut 2 or Ultimate Carnage. The cars in Dirt Showdown barely roll over, explode, EJECT THE DRIVER, or just give you the feeling of power when you hit another car t-bone. But Im glad you at least know what Im talking about, most people haven't even heard of these game. A shame... peace from Germany Bro
I'm kind of sad Dirt got split in half, with a total arcade game series, and a total simulation game series, dirt 3 hade the perfect sim\arcade balance with engaging game modes, if I was code master, I would have made a dirt 4 game, with all the content of all 5 games, and the carier splited in two ones, rally, with all classic rally modes, and showdown for all the crazy stuff, to get all cars, you need XP, to get all paintjobs, you need to finish chapters, the showdown part giving you crazy finishes with grafities over them, and the other one giving you official wrc teams paintjobs, the driving, like dirt 3, and the car's damages, a bit more realustic, a tiny bit, and more mechanical damages, to make the demolition modes more "grusome".
Ha, thanks - but unfortunately in my case I can't watch it because I'm gonna be sittin at a register till midnight :/ But I will be able to watch the final match, so yeah good luck! Hahah, thanks buddy
But i dont mean like dirt2/3 which has rally in it i mean only rally i mean the jeep and rally cross events in dirt 2 were so frustrating because the A.I. Would repeatedly ram you while the rest go ahead XD.
I THINK CGR SHOULD REVIEW THE FLATOUTS FOR PS2 SPECIFICALLY FLATOUT2 HE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT A ROCKET POWERED ELCAMNIO AND THERE IS ONE I THINK ITS WOULD BE A GREAT GAME FOR HIM WHATS NOT BETTER THAN HITTIN A WALL AND THROWING UR DRIVER INTO THE AIR OR WATER SKIPPING
+Abhishek Raina Dirt Showdown is way more fun. Midnight Club is a bit repetitive, but has a wonderful cockpit view. I'd say Dirt Showdown, but Midnight Club is also very good. If you have the chance, play them both before purchasing.
+rex lex the only racing games i have played is need for speed hot pursuit 2 and a little forza horizon (both offline) ........ what kind of offline modes does dirt showdown has? or is online only? i just wanted to try some racing game (for fun) and these (midnight club and showdown) were the cheapest.....thanks for your reply

I simply love these reviews! In all the past videos I never once have seen this guy not absolutely loving what he does! He is just awesome!

You make the best reviews man. Especially of the Gran Turismo series :)
"how many assholes we got on this ship anyhow?!" crew:"YO!" "I knew it I'm surrounded by assholes!" *facesheld closes* "keep fireing assholes!"
"somewhere a dolphin strangles a panda" made laugh like an idiot.
Gotta love Mark.
lol, Mark uploads a Dirt Showdown review while I was playing Dirt Showdwon, sweet timing :) Great review Mark!
Would be nice to see a Shift 2 review as well :)
I love the rally races as well. Dirt 1 is my favorite, but this one has a place in my heart as well. Loving the Logitech GT driving wheel
Great review. So informative and funny. Cheers.

Free digital Download with Xbox Live Gold this month until Jan 15th.
+Jerry lee This review from Mark was my determining factor on whether it's worth downloading or not.
amazing review
This is one of the most beautiful games I've ever seen. It's gorgeous. So many vivid colors.
station wagons in demo derbies: that fake wood isn't going to help you where you're going

LOVE THIS GAME
Haha I recognized the Psychodynamic89's name from this video's online play footage, I raced against the same person in Flatout 4 few days ago on PS4.
Ok
5:20 - 5:33 Great paraphrase of a Spaceballs quote. :)
Lol'd at the Spaceballs reference. :')
love the spaceballs reference :3
4:32 I heard Rival Sons playing. Now I'm totally getting this game!
hey why didnt Mike review the Motorstorm series?
I think they just slapped the name Dirt on there to encourage sales, but you're right. It feels like a completely different kind of series.
"because as the name suggested they are a master of code" 😂
Good to hear. I almost cried when I saw what this game was about.
The soundtrack had Enter Shikari in it. Whoever does the soundtrack is a genius. Aside from that, average game, but it is just a spinoff and not a serious DiRT.
Is there the split screen mode
5:40 Announcer: Slamming into that rear!
I'm sorry I just have to say it... Giggidy.
dear mark: make a top 250 dvd, or blu ray player set, will it be playable on the ps1?
Yeah. I love the Colin Mochrie Rally Series too and...Colin McRae? Who the hell's Colin McRae?!
Love the Spaceballs reference, btw.
You get ten style points for your use of SpaceBalls :)
Can you imagine a game like this if Mark was the announcer? I'd buy a current-gen console just to play it.
how do you go from dirt 3 excellence to this. shoulda just made a new IP and not thrown the dirt name on it.
The time of CMR 2005 is long gone !
5:40 Is that the Dukes of Hazard horn?

This was my jam when i was 5yo
Marc since you like driving games try the Motorstorm Series
Very nice graphics and both of my type of dirt.
Spaceballs reference
Also you could say these cars drive at...ludicrous speed!
IT'S DIRT SHOWDOWN!
"that door ain't gonna open anymore"
I love DiRT games
IGN only gave this game a rating of six, perhaps it is just me but i think this game is really good, not a 10 of course but better then a six.
Six is a score that should be respected more than it is. It is more than five. It's still less than seven, but seven just happens to be a greater number. That's all.

actually it's a very fun game, but the career mode it's a little bit short, still love it!
tempted to buy it since its going cheap
Keep driving assholes! That's awesome, great review as always Mark. If you need any other games to review, I'd definitely try the Project Gotham Games, as well as Blur. Great arcade racing action for a cheap price, gotta love it.
5:37 General Lee's horn in the background.
5:36-5:38 did I just here dukes of hazzard horn at the background?
Finally!
yeeeah destruction derby its back in dirt style
it has a cocktail view right ?!?
The first couple seconds of hearing the guy's voice, I thought it was penguinz0.
Love this game.
3:41, that's the weirdest sounding strangled panda i ever heard. or is that suppose to be a dolphin's battlecry b4 it starts to strangle a panda?
so much fun with a steering wheel
Oh god another dirt game, i LOVE dirt 3

Mark, do you actually know who the Masters of the Universe are? I don't know. Is it Skeletor's minions or Man-At-Arms and the other guys?
Showdown had Killer music!
After having nausea seeing "serious" mario kart clones and the autodrifting needs of speed, i got this game for free and got back to my childhood with the destruction derby
REMINDS ME OF FLATOUT 1 AND 2
Dude, especially the physics are what drove me to this statement. I mean look at how lame the crashes look!? It is a fest of destruction everytime you race in FlatOut, FlatOut 2 or Ultimate Carnage. They should remake Destruction Derby with awesome realistic physic's ^_^
It reminds me of Destruction Derby Raw on PSX
3:25 I lol'ed
I hope the next dirt will be focused solely on Rally..
My Radeon HD 7870 came with this:D
Of course, he reviewed Forza 2 and 3 and spoke of them favorably. Occasionally circumstances don't allow someone to review every game.
dirt meets burnout paradise...not a bad combo
i think this game would have turned out a lot better had it been a dlc or expansion pack rather than a full retail release.
RIP Colin McRae. Wish there was a proper rallying game out there. =(
NO! We demand more! Both series can coencide
From: The OTHER people ^_^
"..i am surrounded by assholes.." Lord Dark Helmet, Spaceballs
Ha, thanks - but unfortunately in my case I can't watch it because I'm gonna be sittin at a register till midnight :/ But I will be able to watch the final match, so yeah good luck! Hahah, thanks buddy
Does anyone remember Rogue Trip Vacation 2012 on PSX? My god that game was boss!
Somewhere...
In this video...
There's a Spaceballs reference...
Can you find it?
(Ignore kingcoapa. He found it and pointed it out.)
its like pro street on steroids!
But i dont mean like dirt2/3 which has rally in it i mean only rally i mean the jeep and rally cross events in dirt 2 were so frustrating because the A.I. Would repeatedly ram you while the rest go ahead XD.
Amen
dirt 4 is coming out this november!
I want, I want!
this is a good game like the party modes the best
bring back the old music intro
Thumbs up for explody blinky things!
Your right the first one is the best
Holy fuck, this game is just Flatout 2 with lensflare and more DLC.
I THINK CGR SHOULD REVIEW THE FLATOUTS FOR PS2 SPECIFICALLY FLATOUT2 HE ALWAYS TALK ABOUT A ROCKET POWERED ELCAMNIO AND THERE IS ONE I THINK ITS WOULD BE A GREAT GAME FOR HIM WHATS NOT BETTER THAN HITTIN A WALL AND THROWING UR DRIVER INTO THE AIR OR WATER SKIPPING
also. It lacks the awesome physics from Flatout 2. I also hate to accept the fact that the Flatout series are now destroyed
WooW Geweldig Spel Lijkt Me Ik Ga Het Downloaden
how much does it costs?
destruction derby? cool
should i get dirt showdown or Midnight Club : Los Angeles
please reply
+Abhishek Raina Dirt Showdown is way more fun. Midnight Club is a bit repetitive, but has a wonderful cockpit view. I'd say Dirt Showdown, but Midnight Club is also very good. If you have the chance, play them both before purchasing.

But only grid did destruction derby as a little sideline, there hasn't been one since flatout >_>
