My grandpa grew up in a Scottish Gaelic speaking community on the east coast of Canada (Cape Breton Island), and he called those hats tams too! I mean we’re Canadian so have no skin in the game, but even in Gaelic they don’t call them Scotch Bonnets 😂

I love the sound of this book, really hope you keep going and finish it so that we can give it a read ☺️ I am interested in seeing more writing vlogs and seeing what is inspiring you as you go along e.g. locations, pieces of art, other books that have provided inspiration.
Also, I love the Outlander books and tv show, but definitely wouldn’t follow the author on social media just to enjoy them in my own way without seeing the debates over accuracy. I know they’re probably not historically accurate but it’s fun to pretend sometimes 😂

My alma mater was founded and based on universities in Scotland and received lots of their initial funding from the Presbyterian Church in Scotland. We’re quite proud of that history and sing part of school song in what I can only describe as offensively bad Gaelic. Every first year student gets a “scotch bonnet” during frosh week. We call also call them tams.

i'm really excited about this book (and the vlogs)! my life needs a highland romance book written not only by a scot, but a historian! something of a similar vibe to your book that i'd highly recommend (if you don't already know about it), is 'the belle's stratagem' which is a play by hannah cowley from 1780. i saw a production of it a few years ago in edinburgh and was amazing! the version i saw of it was set in edinburgh and had a strong focus on highland/scottish culture and by the sounds of it, i think the main character of that would be best friends with your main character! unrelated, but i love your headband (?) in that opening clip? it was giving me modern french hood vibes, it looks so beautiful!

I am so excited that you’re working on a highlander romance 🥰 This was a fun vlog to watch and I would definitely watch more. Also as an American with very far off familial ties to Scotland and Ireland, I personally also get super annoyed when people claim heritage for countries they’ve never personally lived in or where they don’t have living family that they know well within those places. It’s honestly just weird and I am sure often confusing and offensive for people who do live in those places presently

100% understand what you are talking about with a romanticised history of a country/identity - I have seen it with so many times with people claiming Irish heritage or think they are writing an accurate portrayal of Irish life or culture. I actually tend to avoid books about Ireland written by non Irish authors for the most part (especially if they are American) as they normally make me annoyed.

Sorry being a nerd, Pershire? If you are using the name Magnus, you may want to write a connection possibly to the vikings, as there are place names linked to the vikings like dingwall, so you can flesh that out? as magnus is a Scandinavian name as opposed a purely Scottish name. Inver means mouth of, as is it the same used in Inverness etc.
