Tie-dye pattern : Fire & Ice Spiral (H.W.I)

- Today I am demonstrating how to tie-dye a Fire & Ice Spiral pattern on a t-shirt using the H.W.I. (Hot Water Irrigation) tie-dye method. This is a step by step tie-dye tutorial video where I cover the entire process beginning with the spiraling and rubber banding of the shirt. After that I apply the procion dye powder directly on top of the shirt and move on over to the sink to apply the hot water. For proper hot water application I first use a spray bottle for a light mist to help saturate the dye without it blowing all over, and after that I use my garden pump sprayer that has been filled with water that has been heated to 175 degrees for proper saturation. For the final steps I let the shirt sit 10-15 minutes, give it a good rinse, and jump right on into the reveal our new tie-dye fire & ice spiral t-shirt. ***Before working with procion dyes or any kind of fiber reactive dye please make sure to pay special attention to all labels including directions, warnings, and first aid instructions***. I highly recommend gloves, eye protection, and a respirator or dust mask per these instructions.

I love hot different methods, like ice dyeing, can create the coolest patterns, but DAMN, it uses so much dye!

Thanks for this! I just did this for my son's birthday this week and it came out awesome! He loves it! And so do I! I did straight lines instead of zigzags as it is a smaller shirt and worked better that way. I used light red instead of hot hibiscus.

@@RiahsTieDye I use dharma but at the time I did them I only had midnight blue and royal blue I think I just had too much dye on there I’ll have to try it again and the hot water irrigation is one of my favorites I love the same day reveals thanks again

To say N.B.C. is an obsession for my cousin is an understatement! We watch on Halloween and Christmas. If it's on the "holiday countdown" schedule the TV is tuned in everytime it airs, we also just turn it on to have it on even if we JUST watched it 🥰🥰
Im getting ready to make my cousin and I N.B.C. snow globe tumblers featuring Jack's face in poly-clay (glitter lambs sold out, etsy) and Zero holographic confetti (etsy or cricut machine, foil "paper" safe in liquids/slimes). Using purple glitter as the "deadly night shade" and black micro fine holo-glitter!! (no, I have NEVER made the tumblers before but you have to start a new craft somewhere😉)

You use a few different methods to dye… how do you choose which will be best for your project?
Well it really depends… for spiral with a design on it, you can be more precise with liquid dye, ice dye is always my favorite because the colors blend so well together and create marbling so there’s a lot more texture to what your making. HWI also creates some texture but it’s actually a quick way to do a tie dye if your in a time crunch. That being said though, you don’t want to HWI something super duper thick because it probably won’t look the same of the other side. I hope this helps ☺️

Could this design be done with liquid dye?
Yes definitely! Liquid dye just doesn’t give it as much texture but it will be about the same ☺️💙

This method is HWI which is hot water irrigation so you have to put the powder on the shirt and then spray hot water onto it ☺️
It's easier than having to mix up dye and has a different effect.
