    This video was super helpful for me! 7/29, I had really good success as a first-time visitor to DL using Multi-Pass & leading a less intense crew that wanted to do a variety of LL & standby-only lines. Almost none of these LL were the time I wanted on the first try but I always got a much better time (

    One video idea I'd love to see is- for rides that have an outdoor element- seeing if they're better in the daytime or at night. For example, I found Jungle Cruise to be sort of dark and creepy at night, but Radiator Springs Racers was absolutely beautiful! I know it might take a long time for you to make since you usually leave the parks early, but I do think it would be valuable for trip planning! :)

    So helpful. Thank you!
    A couple things I am not clear on:
    1) When you had two attractions booked at the same time bc of the two-hour rule, were you still able to choose another attraction after scanning into the first of the two? And,
    2) Were you able to book another attraction while holding onto that multiple experiences selection you got bc Thunder Mtn was closed?

    This has been very informative, thank you! I have not been back since COVID so the whole new fast pass approach has seemed overwhelming. What crowd calendar do you use? Also, have you used the LL since posting this and have you seen an improvement in availability? It seems a little stressful trying to manage what to book and when to be efficient. Any suggestions on what to do if you are not park hopping? We tend to do a multi day pass where we commit one day to DCA and the others to Disneyland as just hasn't seemed worth the extra cost and time jumping from park to park in the past for us.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have not used it since. No. You’ll have an easier time not park hopping. Just hit what’s available for what you want to do. And focus on the priority rides first if it looks like they’re disappearing quicker.

    Nice challenge and very interesting . My strategy is just to book my first LL at rope drop and keep modifying for the afternoon. I just keep getting more every 2 hours so they are stacked for the afternoon. Works well if you aren’t park hopping. I hope my strategy isn’t messed up with the name change.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s all well and fine if you’re okay with only getting 5-6 lightning lanes.
      We ended up using at least 12, which would take 24 total hours if you were stuck with one only every 2 hours.
      Last time we did this challenge, we actually managed to get something like 16 lightning lanes (there were only 18 total rides on the service at the time).
      Thats something that’s just not possible with stacking, but it works for some people and so long as it does what they want, then it’s all good.

    • @Sandiastef
      @Sandiastef 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SoCalDisneyDad I’ll have to go back and rewatch that other one. I’ll clarify that we didn’t have a park hopper so it’s just the LL in one park and we are able to use all the LL but we are open to close people since we don’t go often - so yes, it takes allllll day. 😂 We use the Golden Hour for Fantasyland.
      I should also add that we don’t stack them all. We might have 3 stacked by noon then we when we use one we can book another for a ride that has a more immediate return time.
      The hope is to rope drop the favorites and then be able to ride them again in the afternoon/ evening with LLs but as your video showed, breakdowns happen and it’s not always possible.

    Great video! We felt the same way. We went Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. We were there at 7:45am all three days. Friday was manageable but Thursday and Wednesday were bananas. It was just bonkers the way LLs disappeared.
    BTW thank you so much. I watched 7 months of your vids to prepare for this trip. We were able to every single thing on our must-dos and lots of bonus things thanks to you, Amy and the tots. I even happened upon that boysen slushie and pretzel bread and they were a winning combo!

  • @52185mertlich
    @52185mertlich 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Ok so if you stack lightening lanes. Let’s say you have “1” for 2:00 that you set first, but then your 2 hour window is up and you booked the “2” for 1:30. Once you use “2” at 1:30 can you book another? Even though “1” was booked first. Sorry if that’s confusing. Trying to understand the stacking better.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That’s correct. Once a reservation passes the 2 hour mark, it’s no longer relevant for selecting a new pass.
      You could make that first reservation for 8 PM at night if it’s already out that far (Guardians might be in this boat right now). Once you pass that first two hour window, the new lightning lane you make becomes the one you either have to use or wait two hours for.
      That 8 PM reservation can sit there all day but it won’t impact new reservations after the first 2 hours.
      One of our viewers said they stack everything for the evening.
      How that works is you just keep modifying your reservations.
      For instance. Say you make the first reservation for 9 AM because that’s as far out as it goes at rope drop. At 8:45 you can modify it to say 11:30 or whatever it’s currently out to at that point.
      Your 2-hour window is from the original time you booked the lightning lane. It doesn’t reset when you modify. So you can still book another at 10 AM.
      To get all your lightning lanes for the evening, you just have to keep modifying them to push them later and later.
      Does this make sense?

      You can change the park in the app, but it only shows one park at a time. And you can't select a ride in the other park until after 11 AM at least due to hopping restrictions. Great content, as usual. We are in the dreaming of going back phase and love watching to relive the experience. Question for you, Traver. I'm wondering if refreshing so much is a difference or was it something that was just as helpful with the old Genie+ system?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@kimInVic_88 It definitely worked for us often enough this visit.
      The times we struggled I had a few theories.
      So, if they were limiting lightning lanes for whatever reason, then there’s less to go around and more competition.
      If there were more people buying it there was more competition.
      Or, it’s possible people just weren’t letting them go. Especially with Star Tours given the new scenes that released in April if folks haven’t seen them yet.
      For other rides, especially given that Guardians ran out at Noon, folks might have hung on to them knowing they couldn’t get it again.
      Why did they run out so fast? That’s the big question. Disneyland has never had supply issues with Lightning Lanes. That’s a WDW problem.
      And to that, I have no answer still.

    Hey 👋 - we were at Disneyland on Wednesday (thanks for all of your tips, by the way)... The one thing I noticed... When I would go in to modify my LL time, I'd get one time offered (i.e. 5:00pm), but once I confirmed to accept the new time or new ride with that time... It would confirm it with a MUCH layer time... I'd be expecting that 5:00pm and then I'd end up with 8:20pm...
    It was such a disappointment because it did not help with trying to plan... it was my first time at Disneyland, but I always used Genie at Disney World and never had the time pushed out so far when changing, so not sure if that was the new change or park-based.
    I just felt like I was losing... would have been fair to show the updated time and asking if you still wanted to change.
    Main plus, we got Guardians first thing and we rode it twice after getting another pass due to Monsters breaking down.
    Definitely going to provide feedback to Disney.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So the time you see when refreshing is what’s available right that second. But it takes you a few seconds to process it’s a time you want and click it. In that time, if someone else clicked it, then they get it. So when you click, it just gives you the next available time.
      So long as you make it to the screen where it asks if you want to confirm this new time, you’re locked in to whatever time is showing and can take a few seconds to decide if you truly want that time.
      So in the situation you’re describing, I see 5 PM, click, and it now shows 8 PM on the confirmation screen, it just means someone else was faster than me.
      This is why I was saying that competition seemed fiercer than it usually is at DL.
      But I still think they were short-stocking the LLs because it does not usually work this way at Disneyland. It was acting more like WDW.

    Very helpful! My family of 5 (kids ages 16, 13 & 13) are flying out west and will be visiting Disneyland / Cali Adventure on Monday, August 19th. We’ve need to Disney World many times and have no problems walking the parks all day long to get on as many rides as possible so we think we will be able to do the same at Disneyland. Question: Which park should we rope drop? I was thinking Disneyland since Cali Adventure has early entry that day and we don’t want to compete with the hotel guests who arrive early at Cali Adventure. However, Disneyland is open later so maybe we should rope-drop Cali Adventure instead? Thanks!

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Early entry affects very little at Disneyland unless you’re dead set on rope dropping either Peter Pan or Guardians, as these are the two rides that early entry guests will drive up to 25 minute waits before rope drop.
      If you want to rope drop those rides, start in the park that doesn’t have early entry.
      But Disney hotel guests are fewer here at DL. Primarily because there’s only 3, but also because they’re all deluxes. We have no value resorts and $600/night is a huge ask for 30 extra minutes.
      As you saw here, we did plenty at DCA in the 6 hours we were over there. 9 of their 18 rides.
      The only thing I’d add to this schedule is single ridering Radiator Springs Racers.
      In fact, in a typical day, we’d pass on Grizzly and I’d probably exchange that time for RSR and you’re golden with this schedule.

    My theory: way more people were testing the new system than normal so LL availability was being snatched up way faster than normal.
    This is the problem with a system like this. The more popular it is, the worse the experience and value proposition becomes.

      Of the 18 rides at DCA, 11 of them have height requirements, so that's 7 without, and of those 7 most of them are the fairground type rides you can find almost anywhere.
      So if your little one is under 32 inches, then yes, you might want to skip DCA. As to an itinerary, there's way too much involved in something like that to even begin to advise you.
      I'd suggest writing a list of rides and prioritizing them by most important to least important, and then mostly just try to make sure you hit all the high priority rides for everyone in your party.

      Mondays are fairly bad, too. They are possibly the worst of the weekdays.

    While in the line for Matterhorn, what did Amy mean by, “I hope we get the Fantasyland side?” 11:42
    Also, I’m really interested to see more of these new Lightening Lane test videos over the next couple of months, bc if it continues looking like it did on this day, my main takeaway becomes that it’s no longer worth it to pay extra for that service. Really interested to hear your evolving thoughts in the coming weeks/months.
    Thanks Traver & Amy!

      It is, but it’s on Single Pass. As is Rise of the Resistance. Which is a separate paid feature.
      This is what replaced Genie+ and is called Multi Pass (for multiple rides on just one service).

    Does anyone have any experience with using genie+/multipass with rider swap? We went in March and purchased genie. I have a 2 year old and 3 older children. So we were using the rider swap as well as genie. It was sort of a hassle but we ended up scanning everyone in for genie even though one adult sat out so that we could book another attraction. Then whoever waited my 2 year old just got a rider swap. Is scanning everyone in at once necessary? Can you book your group another attraction if one person hasn’t scanned in? It was a bit much to keep track of so I was wondering if there was an easier way to do things or if I’m just stuck juggling genie and rider swap until my youngest is older. We’re going again in November.

      @SoCalDisneyDad  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tesamacomber4391 This is the way it needs to be done. Yes. Then have them issue a rider swap for the other person.
      In a two adult situation this may seem strange. But if you had something like 4 adults and a child and only one adult sat out, this is just the best and most efficient way to operate.
      I was going to suggest each of you booking separate lightning lanes (something you could have done on the old Fastpass). But I’m concerned that now that it’s a paid feature, they wouldn’t let you get a rider swap if the other person doesn’t have a lightning lane.
      I think they want all party members to scan in to prove that you have it. But I’m not positive.
      You usually need to have the party sitting out present anyway to get a rider swap. So this shouldn’t be too complicated to scan everyone in first.

    I was waiting for that video to come as we pre-purchased Genie+ for August 9th which now automatically turned into Multi Lighting Lane Pass (wait, what was it called again? 🙄). This „change“ seems to be totally useless to me and I got the feeling that Disney wasn‘t really prepared for the system change as you discovered rides with no people waiting in lighting lanes even though no lane was available before in the app. I hope that this will not be the case for our „once in a lifetime“ visit to California 🙈. Anyway, love your videos and the positive mindset of your whole family! ❤

      But so long as each party member has everyone else’s tickets linked to their accounts, then they should have access to everything.
      But in general, I only recommend a single person handle the lightning lanes. It’s much less complicated when just one person is in control of everything.
      For example, if I went with 4 other people, but didn’t have any of their tickets on my account, and one of the others had all of ours and was in charge of lightning lanes. On my own phone I should be able to see the reservation. But if I tried to modify it, it would likely only modify my own because I don’t have the other 4 party members tickets linked to my account. I wouldn’t have access to their reservations if they aren’t linked.
