@@scatlar2Totally my personal opinion; judging by the history of this horrid facility; I'd guess that the spirits would be keen af on helping expose anything they can! The govt is still, to this day, so darn tight lipped about this location... Why? I mean, I can guess why... but, it shut down in 1998 right? Makes you wonder why they still actively patrolling this 'abandoned' asylum aye!

Totally agree with you, places like that are riddled with evil spirits as we well know, the insane are always experiencing hearing voices and seeing spirits which is NOT THEIR FIGMENT OF IMAGINATION. Too the mentally insane psychopath it is “real” to them and I wholly believe they are demon possessed. I know all those buildings and some of the sick things that happened to some patients who were sexually molested. So called “normal” humans are worse than the patients themselves which leads them to be mentally sick. The reasons behind the security guards still patrolling the grounds and buildings is druggies think that those buildings still contain drugs. Finances is the issue because of high maintenance and costs in administration and wages. Most of my family worked there and across the road was my families Maniapoto marae and family burial ground there. The Waikato is the area for the Maniapoto tribe.

Best video yet of Tokanui. Ive watched this now at least 12 or 15 times. Im totally obsessed with this place as much as I now the horrors and atrocitys that happened here. I was placed as a client in 1997 and wish id explored the place more while there but I was to not on a normal way of thinking then. Id love to spend an entire weekend there just to explore every single building and grounds of the place.

i have been through every inch of this place as a teenager with my mates about ten years ago,all of the rooms, there are tunnels underneath also ,we used to slip through a window and fall into an old bath that had a metal lid on it ,there were creepy xrays and medical equipment all over the place ,in the high security womans unit there was an old painting with a weird version of jingle bells written on the back, someone i knew took that painting and hung it in there home , amonth or so later he went nuts and burned his house down, even though its been so long ,i can see the whole place burned into my memory i know the place inside out, twice we where stalked by a huge man ,one day we were caught by security and he told us that he used to be a patient there and often old patients were found inside ,super sad place man

Thats out of it about that painting with a weird jingle bells bet it was twisted as. The ward i was in had these pictures in the hall only patients and staff could see there was one of kittens in a glory box one of a dog one of them very long hair dulux dog and another of a side veiw of a cat but they eyes were not showing in any of them when you look at them they look like how a mental person is and also lets you realise you also have brain that does not work also freaky as f pictures I went back to that ward few years back and where them pictures were the picture hook had litterally been hack sawn off, I honestly believe that these pictures were made by telekinesis and moved from ward to ward and asylum to asylum by telekinesis also and because tokanui is now decommissioned they had to cut the hooks off so the pictures can never be telekinesis back onto the walks and also there is a hill by the receiption that big administration building there used to be two drain pipes and were sticking out of the embankment and even had a man hole on top with lid,the crazy thing was they were blanks i went down to look at them while locked up in 1996 and they served no purpose they were just there to look like they did some sort of drainage but when i went back I tryed to find them culvert drain pipes and they are no longer there. Somone knows somthing and as crazy as some paitients did say strange things but this truely is just psyching. They used to head trip me because in the dining room the nurse's and audilies used to pop out from the back and i only learnt a few years back that there is almost false walls in that ward not false as such but definately out of sight from paitients and it head tripped me so they got a semi hard one over doing that for sure and them little control box room things where they could stand in and watch us sleep with control of all lights and even had a microphone to talk into speakers in the solitary confinement cells. That place should be shown to the public especially the 3 superintendent flats they were twisted to you would have to be fucked in the head to live in one of them flats. Wont go into detail of what i felt from them flats but hearing stories of them children and adults who got raped in that place is no freakin joke.

One case they had twenty security guards trying to restrain one of the mentally insane psycho that escaped from his cell when it was time to give them their meals. These criminals psychos are demon possessed and because it was a highly acute dangerous ward , staff were only allowed to work in that block for no more than 2 weeks. My aunty was the head nurse there and my cousin was a RN there. The two storey building with the white ladder was the nurses quarters

A lot of bodies there which my late husband retrieved and given proper monuments for their families. His aunty lived her whole life there as she came out of Switzerland and lost her fiance and was put in Porirua as she was grieving. She was sent to Tokanui and because of the language barrier she lived her life there when there was nothing wrong with her. There was a lot of awful things there not only with the patients but with the staff. Local funeral directors built memories to the people who died.

If you saw the place even when It was a running asylum you would see the reality of why the government didnt do that. It was designed by the military and is as barbarac like early 19th century militry buildings were built it was only built for an out of sight out of mind place and if any normal person even if they chose to live there would eventually go a bit AWOL even the nursing units and drs flats are enough to make a sane mans mind wonder. Thats the reason why. It be nice if it could be have been saved for somthing but I believe just either lift the drs units up rebuild that in a museum have there true stories uncovered of what they did in that place take photos of the prison have them attached to there side show buildings the drs used to live in the museum bowl it over and give the land back to the Iwi.

They have developed the old kimberley hospital near levin. You dont keep what's there to make a halfway house, it gets developed. It all takes a long time, but I do agree if its Gov owned it could be put to some better use for sure. I believe the kimberley is now a retirement village. I never went there when it was abandoned however I have met people who recieved shock treatment there and people who got past the very aggressive guards to discover small padded rooms etc. A lot of spooky history and tales of an era that's slowly being replaced. They all ways knew cbd thc cured epileptic fits they just locked up a shit load of them to test lab made chemicals to try n find a new medicine but never found one. Many illnesses in places like these could only be managed with cbd or thc but it was not what big co opps wanted. There were a lot of sick people that could only be medicated with major tranquilizers more than cbd thc ones but so many paitients could have lived normal lives back a 100 years ago but it didnt happen. Asylums should have been still open to this day but for paedophiles rapists and the like but the world is a mess.

We might not have old buildings or bones but we make up for it In that we are closer to events. History is very intriguing to me, where we came from, who was before us etc. I had a neighbor who would tell me about their shock therapy, scary to think that happened to them in such recent times. The verbal history of our land wars is still very fresh also. History is fascinating wherever you are and it goes as far back as you want to look.
