We’ve always taken the shucker tool and inserted it into the joint at the back of the oyster. The shells pop right open. There must be lots of TH-cam videos showing how it’s done. I’ve watched the shuckers at the Oregon Oyster Farms on the Yaquina River (down here in Newport). These guys enter shucking contests. Amazing speed! Another great video, Dan.

Yep, tip of the knife in the hinge, they pop right open. I've never seen the plier trick before.

I know those guys are fast but I'm taking my time learning how my first time here now. My friend learned the pliers technique from an old man and it is easy too, I like this way I tried the other way I couldn't get in. The second time I beat my friend at this own game, I'll just get faster at it I catch on quick.

@@morgankruse4666 I’m with Morgan, Dan. I hadn’t seen the plier trick, either. But it sure seems to work. I’m pretty good at going in at the hinge so I think I’ll stick to that. But whatever works, right?

    😃💯 I love fresh, great-tasting oysters,
but not all of them hit the spot for me.
Is it true that East Coast oysters taste better than West Coast ones? 🧐
Also, I’m curious-do you have to put the shells back on the shore for a specific reason, or is it just for environmental reasons?

I get them by the World known Penn Cove Mussel farm, Known for their shell fish, the oldest and largest mussel farm in the United states.
Their mussels are known for their sweet flavor and texture and have won awards at international taste tests..🦪😋

Nice limit. You got proficient really quick. Your experience with the clams must have helped. How did you cook them up? 👍
