    Tough crowd here. His voice is actually quite nice. Plays guitar OK, he was able to belt out some good tunes on the fly with some fairly complicated chords. The guitar was buzzy and slightly out of tune, not his fault.

    • @allstopblue5717
      @allstopblue5717 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Joe S I agree. And these guitars are by no means easy to play either. Usually have quite high action by design. If your not used to playing one it can be very different feeling setup compared to most guitars. I thought he played just fine.

    • @GenosGlory
      @GenosGlory 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Joe S yes but really is the guy that plays fault if he plays it live without tuning first. The first guitar maybe needs some adjustments. Action needs to be adjusted.

      korgpa4x korg Agreed but he was clearly just handed the guitar. Not saying the guitar sounded great but his voice is decent and he's having fun.

    Very cool. The secret to playing a Stromberg is that you have to be very aggressive in how hard you play it. They were designed to be heard in a big band setting so once you start pounding the strings the tone will really start to come out along with the volume.
    Elmer knew what he was doing and he did it very well !

    • @elneutrino90
      @elneutrino90 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you play those energically the floating bridge will move and the guitar will go completely out of tune at the blink of an eye

      The bridge wont move if you set it up with heavy strings.

    That Stromberg 400 is the model that Freddie Green played with Count Basie back in the late 30s/early 40s. Fred Guy also used one around the same time with Duke Ellington as well as Irving Ashby with Lionel Hampton. So, not only is it rare, but it's a very important guitar is the history of music.

    what a cool sound. the bridge placement and the waste size create this side of a drum head effect. and its resulting in an open, but less than expected boominess. its tight, but you can slap on it unlike most arch tops. interesting theory for build. you really get to see the value of sound hole placement as well. and its impact on the sound and resonance.

    Adequate for his needs - he's a club singer - . That is perhaps as generous as most of the audience will choose to be about Frank's voice. But, Frank had a big single ( the name of which escapes me ) and being that his fame coincided with -probably abetted by his brother being a phenom at that moment. Wait, wasn't "Flying High Now" -the "Rocky" theme song - credited to Frank? But this is a perfect example of something obvious that KILLS ME! - all the arguments we sit through on-line all the while asking why, being that the argument takes place on-line, the "combatants" don't just Google the damned answer! But that aside, Frank quite obviously is one of those folks with a long memory for musical/entertainment trivia. One of those guys who is amusing at parties and small gatherings, he has used this minor facet of personality to amuse, to entertain and apparently to pay the bills. So my take on Frank is that his talent has been enough to pay for his life - which still includes an apparently LARGE guitar collection, which sits in a very nice house. Paid for with and by whatever talent and skill Frank possesses. And in the end, that fact MAY be the only measure of his success as an entertainer/musician/raconteur that matters - since just about every other measure of talent is so subjective. You may think he's a bum with no voice or skill even while his singing and story telling are earning him a lifestyle about which most will only dream.
