  • I have a big workshop coming up, so I'm handling up some more mora 106 blades. Here is a quick overview of my method:
The timber is oak, and I'm using a few simple tools. If you don't have a cordless drill or don't want to use one, I used to do this with a brace and bit - it works very well, just takes longer.
I plugged the through hole off camera - drilling from both ends means you don't need an extra long drill bit, and you don't have to shorten the tang. 106 tangs are very long because they go all the way through the factory handles.
Here is a link to my previous video on handling a sloyd knife:

In this older video I used green wood for the handle, and relied on shrinkage so that there was no glue needed. I still like this method, but using seasoned timber and some kind of glue is more reliable.
If you'd like to buy one of my custom moras, they are available here:

I make knives full-time, and your’s is a great process, and great shaped handle. I wouldn’t even worry too much about the glue as you have it pretty well pressed.

I really liked the burt effect. I hadn't seen that on a Slöyd knife before. 👍👍
The brand Falcon of your plane is new to me. Do you know what country it's from? Thanks.

I enjoyed the unorthodox construction, the way your bench sits, the multi-functional bench and the shape of the handle.

Love this, just about to build my own custom Mora! Also, is your planing stop an old fork?

Haha, close. It's a leather pricking iron bent 90°. Works ok, but I'll forge myself a proper one at some point.

@@jones_trees_and_treen I think there might be a market for proper planing stops - especially if you are in Europe... I would buy at least two immediately! :)

Just looked through your website, realized that you are based "down under", so, no worries then ;-)

Yes, although I've made a new bench since then. One day I'll forge a proper one.

Would it be possible to use 2 shorter dowels stacked on top of each other on either side using epoxy?

    What oil did you use?

Heating the wood up with super glue is not a good idea. It weakens the glue.

This is true, next time I would burn the handles and then fit the blade in last.
