That is beautiful, truly a work of art. One thing though, my dad would have clipped me round the ear if I had ever stood a wood plane on its blade side like that (although I appreciate you had it on a leather pad)
Wow! What fine attention to detail! Did you actually forget out the entire folded steel blade? Because it looks totally legit! Naginata, in my book, is the ultimate bladed weapon! And your craftsmanship is well developed. Serious kudos to you my friend, you did an excellent job on this weapon, and the scale of it makes it something you can have in a small home! I love it!
No, they were definitely carried and used in war just not as a primary arm. They’re a sidearm just like a longsword/arming sword was to a medieval Knight. Generally speaking, both Knights and Samurai carried polearms as their primary (Spear, Halberd, Poleaxe, Naginata) and once that weapon was too damaged or destroyed or they were disarmed of that weapon, they’d switch to their sidearm which would typically be a sword (Longsword, Arming Sword, Messer, Falchion, Katana, Tachi) and then to various knives after that (Rondel, Bollock, Tanto)
Sometimes I wonder how smiths in the ancient times work. Something as simple as drilling a hole is not trivial when you don't have a drill bit! How to file or otherwise remove material when your files are the same hardness as the sword? They don't have carbide tools or anyway to create really hard or wear resistant alloy steels!
Beautiful work.
Thank you for sharing.
Excellent Japanese craftsmanship!
That was beautiful craftsmanship sir.

You are an artist and a craftsman. Thank you for sharing your works!
Although it's a small piece, it's extremely well made and lovely to look at. It would break my heart to see such a thing misused.

Actually, the steel used for the blade is not laminated steel, but just high carbon steel.
Is that a miniature...or actual size.
Whatever it is... It's phenomenal
It's a miniature one.
A real one would be the 10-15ft in length.
From blade to the end.
Still a great letter opener or a desk gift to show.
What an excellent build‼️
This is actually what Samurais used in wars: Spears, Naginatas and Bows due to long reach. Katanas are used rarely for war.

Looks good but all that work just to have a simple wrap on the handle? Would like to have seen a little better wrap or attention to handle
