cheers Tony, Yeah I have powder mash, I get it in the kg bag and put it in a container like the gravy. That way you can take out as much as ya need. Thanks for the tips on the onions too.. makes a difference if you can keep both the spuds n onions dry don't it.
Nice presentation. I use pickling onions. They are about a third of the size of normal brown ones, slightly dearer. But for a single traveler they are ideal as you don't end up with half an onion that needs using. great for a couple of tuna and onion sangers.
me too Boris, I get the med/sm size ones in the plastic net from Woollies perfect for a single meal although size can vary, but I usually cook enough for two and fridge/freeze a portion for later in the week anyway so not an issue, my philosophy is if your gunna dirty a pan for one meal you might as well cook enough for two, and any leftover onion goes into a jar with white vinegar a little sugar - pepper and salt & some dried herb as a pickle, only takes half an hour and they're ready to eat on a sambo with red salmon (when it's on spec).
G’day mate, bloody good insight into some of ya food and storage ya “ pantry “ I have thought about how ya get buy when ya in the bush and how often you can get to a super market, great video look forward too hearing more about it, all the best Olemate 🇦🇺
Thanks Greg. yeah it’s something I had to try work out along the way, as I didn’t like coming back to towns much. Spend to much and it!means less fishing time lol. Happy you are still having around man ay. Cheers for all ya support
Wayyyy to much tinned food. IMO. YES PLAIN flour into self 👍 Rice noodles n pasta. Packet sauces powder milk and ya soda stream that was a cracken idea. Love it.if you make a chicken curry try a lump on a hook. 😎 return all materials to the food chain and waste away from water supply. Them zip bags are hot 🔥 stuff. Great vids man ..... Davi b
Cheer Davi, Can't do with out the tin food.. May look a lot, but if you was to brake it all down into week supplies there isn't a lot.. its been longer than 2 moths and I've probably got around just under half of the tins food left. I love me curry dishes so ill give it a crack. Thanks for the support to man. 😊
@@Thecampman_Camping-Australia I do a lot of similar camping to you, during winter, (gold prospecting) and appreciate your pantry, all the best to you, Allan
If you can get hold of freshly laid unwashed eggs you can pickle them in a lime solution and they can last up to 2yrs, plenty of homesteaders do it so there's plenty of videos on how to do it, might be an option to look into 😉
this was a perfect vid mate, very thought provoking with regards to what you carry to cook a feed and maintain variety in your meals but also some alternatives like the powdered eggs and coconut flour. with the wheat flour there's prob quite a few recipes where either one would be ok, with vegies I carry as much fresh as possible given life span and where i'm going then stock up with dehydrated versions that you can get in small one/two serve packets to carry me over or in an emergency. what about dog food - do you carry bulk kibble?
Cheers for the good feedback mate. When it comes to veggies, I love me meat lol. I carry around 20kg of dog nuts, plus the girl loves fish just as much as me also she's getting leftovers and stuff.
Cheers Pete, Yeah growing up on the outskirts of town, mum would do fortnightly shops or even longer at times. So I leant from the best and now that's how I do things.
Great vid mate! ... don’t know if it’s been said yet but if you simmer a can of condensed milk in water it turns into the most delicious caramel ... spoon it out straight to your gob .... 😋😋 delicious 🤤 😂
