  • Japan's famous cherry blossom spot "Funaoka Castle Ruins Park" Miyagi Prefecture.
Shibata Town in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.
Funaoka Castle Ruins Park is a small hill that you can see while walking along the Shiroishi River in " Hitome Senbon Zakura ".
Until the Meiji Restoration, "Funaoka Castle" was here, where the Shibata family, a vassal of the Date family, resided.
Funaoka Castle is now open to the public as Funaoka Castle Ruins Park.
This is a park that can be enjoyed all year round. Cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangeas in summer, cluster amaryllis in autumn, and illuminations in winter.
From the top of the mountain, you can enjoy the view of Hitome Senbon Zakura, the mountains of Zao, and the Pacific Ocean.
About 1,000 cherry trees are in full bloom in the park, and more than 270,000 tourists visit the Shibata Sakura Festival every year from early to mid-April.
During the Warring States period, Funaoka Castle was a key point in protecting the territory of the Date clan and the Sendai clan.
Today, however, along with the Shiroishi River's 1000 cherry blossoms, it has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots, and is surrounded by a gorgeous atmosphere in spring as Funaoka Castle Ruins Park.
