why do you have to be so mean to people who are just enjoying a hobby, is it because they're 'not normal'? They're weird? annoying? Surely this isn’t a creepy pasta, it’s literally just 19th century style American folktales right? I would argue that what distinguishes creepy pasta is actually just what has always characterized the better sorts of ghost stories- plausibility, novelty, nested levels of reality, danger to the reader for knowing/real feeling warnings, investment off the mundane or previously safe with horror. But if campfire stories that would be tame for “scary stories to tell in the dark” and hopelessly cliche to William Hope Hodgson and Washington Irving, what are we doing? Can anything as existentially reassuring as proof of a god and devil as conceived of by American pseudo-Christianity ever be threatening? A creepypasta generally speaks to deeper fears, that god is malicious, powerless, or non existent, but that perpetual suffering certainly is.
