Creekside 6 Rebuild Oct 26, 2024

Early in 2024 Creekside 6 was destroyed by a tree fall. It sat vacant while the powers that be decided if it could be salvaged or needed to be rebuilt. Compounding the situstion was the fact it was slated to be moved and new piers installed as it was close to and facing the new Creekside facility building. I am a gentleman carpenter and use both of those terms loosely but it would have taken a lot of work to put it back together.
The park decided to rebuild. What is really cool about this rebuild is it is far more historically accurate then the Creekside 8 rebuild. It is the same dimensionally but they employed 16' centers on the joists, studs and rafters per code. What was very cool is that they used rough cut lumber like the original cabin. There was no need to put a front hip on the inside of the cabin's ceiling as the originals had the porches added as an afterthought. ALl of the original cabins on the loop have that front hip sloping inwardly as a result. Creekside 14 actually has an access door installed when someone rented it year-around. Open it to reveal the original shingles. anyway, 42' depth sonotube (sp) piers on footers with rock-faced tops that are exposed. I believe they will be using the original widows from the old cabin as the framing appears to be accommodating. Great job ASP carpenters!
