  • In 2002, Andy Rooney defends Thanksgiving, a holiday squeezed out by businesses that seem to "sell-a-brate" Christmas a bit too soon.

    I know Andy Rooney is irreplaceable, but I miss 60 Minutes' end-of-show commentary. Jim Gaffigan would be an ideal candidate if they decide to bring it back.

    At least in the NY area, where both Andy and I am from, Labor Day marks a greater shift in daily life than January 1st does. School starts after Labor Day, the beaches close after the holiday, Football begins the weekend following it. Pre-pandemic, the week after Labor Day meant that there was a huge onslaught of students on mass transit. I haven't said it as strongly as he did here, but I've recognized his point in the past.

      I like Thanksgiving but feel bad for how the Native people were treated by English settlers after the original one in 1620.Even though the Spanish treated them bad as far back as 1492

    You can blame the retailers for undercelebrating Thanksgiving. You can't spell grateful without the cross of Christ (small or large "t").

    In this otherwise excellent segment about Thanksgiving and Christmas by Andy Rooney on "60 Minutes" from November 2002, Rooney failed to mention the sickening practice of some radio stations of playing Christmas songs in summertime! What in the world are the station managers of these radio stations thinking by allowing their DJs to play Christmas music in June or July?

    • @michaelbarlow6610
      @michaelbarlow6610 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Monika. Thanksgiving was traditionally observed on the third Thursday in November until FDR moved it to the fourth Thursday in November.

    Andy Rooney, Steve Croft, Ed Bradley, Morley Safer, Mike Wallace, Leslie Stall were the news. They made news interesting! They are good people! Leslie is the only original from the group. Dan Rather was the best evening news anchor and can blame that sack of crap Bush for losing him.
