      Have you considered a a Pinzgauer.
      Awesome off road, more interior room than a regular 4x4 but can fit on most 4x4 tracks cos it's not as thicc?.
      Either way, best of luck with your projec 👍

  • @grantlouw3182
    @grantlouw3182 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Awesome work filming and driving the Mog through some really tough looking areas there, well done, you guys rock. Great that with all the footage Ange gets, Chris can review his driving and tweak his technique for best possible way to drive that huge Mog in the more tricky tracks.

  • @mikezog1030
    @mikezog1030 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What's really apparent is that Chris needs to be spotted and Ange is going to have to step up. I was sitting here going "go right!! go right!!" There were a few times where Chris was on a bad line. he must choose the line that keeps both front wheels at the same height. It s the front with the engine that has priority.

    I've driven Unimogs and MBTrac for the best part of 20 years. One question I have about your specific Mog: do you not have an even lower gear set? All the Mogs I've driven had a high, low and creeper range. I'm certain if you had lower gears available some of your drama would have been avoided. AND the comment you make about need your diff locks on, I would suggest would have made your navigation more difficult. Great episode for all that and awesome to see you expand your driving to some technical challenges.

    • @TheOutFit
      @TheOutFit  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Marty, the Australian ex-army U1700L Unimogs aren't fitted with the Working Group gearbox. It can be sourced but for a very large fee I would imagine

    • @andrefischer5025
      @andrefischer5025 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TheOutFit can’t remember the exact cost but I think my working group gear set was about 5k plus it needs a few things changed to fit. All up I’d budget 7k. Don’t waste your money on crawler gear group - it’s designed for implement carrier use, extremely slow and not suitable for high torque applications.

    Thanks Guys
    Looks easy & the camera or video never shows how step it really is.
    Plus all the time setting up the shots & making it into one movie.
    Great work the Mog went great I had a moment like everyone else did slow & steady is the way.
    Great set up same as any American trucks trying to do this there going to do a bit of damage.
    All in all it was fantastic to watch nice to sit back & enjoy you adventures safe travels Cheers

  • @andrefischer5025
    @andrefischer5025 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In regards to the diff locks, yeah the steering is not as good as without. But I still choose to engage the diff locks and surprisingly enough I did not have to turn them off because I couldn’t make a turn (yet). You feel pretty early if it’s enough steering or not, enough time to turn them off if need be.
    Keep in mind the turning circle of a locked Unimog is still less than the turning circle of an unlocked 79 series

    • @kusanagi72
      @kusanagi72 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This,, was scrolling through the comments to see if someone would make the comment on the diff locks. Good on you guys for taking on this track. But please for your own safety and the safety of others: Use the diff locks. They are there for a reason. The steering is slightly worse, but you were going up in a straight line anyway, so no reason not to have them in. Traction and control is everything. You see how quick things can turn sour if you break traction. Most roll overs happen through losing traction, you roll backwards, steering is on an angle or you hit a hole and brake, and there you go, belly up. It is easy to switch them off for a 90 degree turn, but all other small steering adjustments, you can just leave them on, Enjoy the rest of your trip! A fellow Mog owner.
