    People don't realize that refrigeration is a relativley modern invention in human history. This is the way that we have been preserving meats since time immemorial.

    That is how I will live forever! I will rub myself in several trillion Moles of salt and preserve myself for eternity. I am Heisenberg Eternal, and I know the chemistry to immortality.

      Yes, and they have an automatic preservation mechanism. Because memes create salt by themselves, which in turn work to preserve the meme.

    Maybe it's just the Brit in me talking, but seriously: until you've sat in a pub with a pint of ale and either a picked onion or a picked egg (the latter delivered, ideally, in a bag of salt-and-vinegar crisps [chips]), you don't know what you're missing. Gherkins have nothing on pickled eggs.

      Today I Found Out I'd always read these articles, but I didn't know this was a channel until today, when TopTenz announced this team-up deal thingy. I've been a loyal subscriber there since that channel, now nearly 230,000 subscribers, had only single digit thousands of subscriptions! I hope this channel can be as successful as that one has been getting, and I only wish I'd found this channel earlier.

      @rudyhero1995 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skylightatdusk any kind of salt that is soluble canbeuse, though it is recommended not to use toxic one, or ones that react with the item in question, so stay of silvernitrates and the like., or actually for preserving any soluble suvstance should work

    That's not how we pickle cucumbers at all! But there are loads of methods to do it right. As long as it's guaranteed to work, it's a suitable way to pickle a cucumber.
