Ah, So the dialogue suggests that the Ogryn do have B.O.N.E augmetics in their heads, just not in the manner that half their skull is a metal place with an eye missing and replaced with an optic sensor.
I wonder if all the Ogryn in this would have the brain augment, or only this voice. They seem to vary a bit. I personally wouldn't mind if some ogryn are passable enough to not need it.
I think given that all three of them seem capable of independent thought and can hold conversations, even if they do struggle at times, they likely all have the needed augments to be Bone 'Eads especially since some of them mention they have been called that by other people in the past.
The other 2 do not have one. The Bodyguard one talks about wanting to get one and the Bully doesn't even reference it, he is a wholesome boy who only cares about trains.
Almost feel like the Ogryns should be blurting more random stuff at or about others or themselves. From what I've been explained toddler levels of intelligence, without the chip, so wouldn't they lack the mental know how to stop intrusive thoughts or understand when they should and shouldn't speak.
I never liked the depiction of Ogryns as damn near infantile in mental capacity. It really didn't make much sense to me in that they can't get smarter then that without a chip in their head and even then they'd be about a kindergardener. I personally think that while they may be more gullible by nature or just a bit slower on the uptake, with education most could and would be equal to damn near anyone else in the imperium. But I think here's the kicker: Education. They are barely tolerated in and only so far as they are useful. The last thing the Administratum and the Munitorum want are Ogryns a bit too smart to want to walk into doom or start getting ideas of their own. So they are kept as dumb brutes, never really even given the option to grow smart. The BONE chips are just a weird "shortcut" to get more efficiency out of the clever ones without time consuming schooling that should of been done way earlier.
I mean, they aren’t infantile though. Don’t get me wrong, some Ogryn’s possess ork level intelligence, but that’s because the brain switched from “How do I spend hours puzzling out abstract concepts” to laser focused on survival, meaning not only are Ogryns physically stronger and tougher then other humans, but aside from deathworlders have the highest level of (albeit instinctual) survival knowledge. Yes, it does mean they have some significant trouble with concepts, and logic, but at the same time they are deathworlders who likely grew up fighting near 24/7 for survival.
It's part of how they developed on higher gravity worlds. Thicker skulls with less room to grow, lower priority brain development in favor of greater muscle mass, and smaller cranium space to limit strain on neck muscles. It's not necessarily that they are mentally deficient, it's just that they basically returned to monke.
They're dumb enough to consistently make sensible tactical decisions, won't overthink a bad situation and give in to panic. Two baseline Ogryn, with a Bone'ead acting as an NCO, and a veteran Guardsman or equivalent fighter giving orders and running tech support are unlikely to abandon their mission.

I do belive the smarter they are the less augmentation they need. This one seems like a genius even before the implant.
Bodyguard wants to get a bonehead implant. Bully doesn't want it. "Smart enough as is". Brawler already has it

Innocence, overrated?? What would you mean, sergeant-major?

The Bodyguard seems pretty smart just on his own, as does the Bully. Maybe not the most eloquent to be sure, but hey.

Ogryn - Joy
Zealot - Phoebe
Psyker - Monika
