A very good presentation. However there were things that were not brought up. First of all let me explain that I raise 2000 sheep and goats in Canada. Fencing - the Dr. mentioned about the size of the mesh and I personally would not have fence mesh less than 2"x4". My personal preference is 2"x2". Height of fence - As the doctor mentioned the biggest threat to your goats is going to be a neighbors dog. My biggest problem is wolves. Dogs, coyotes and wolves are all the same, they are dogs. I have seen a coyote run up a 45 degree inclines and then jump a 4 foot fence. All my fences are 8 feet high but that is mostly to keep out deer. To fence your goats I would recommend a fence no less than 6 feet high. Do not forget about your own dog. It should never have access to your goats. You could turn your back for a spit second and a goat is dead. I once had a German Shepard that killed one of my lambs. The dog was shot (by myself) because I could no longer trust it. Lastly if you do get goats you can not have 1 goat. You must get at least 2. Goats are herd animals and if you only get 1 you and your neighbors will never get any sleep. The goat will cry 24 hours a day. I would prefer to see the cities goat limit be 3 minimum. Also if you are going to milk the goats you will be luck to get 1 quart of milk per day from 2 dwarf goats. The nanny must be pregnant before she will give any milk and she has to get pregnant every year to give milk on a continuous basis. Goats eat very little grass. Their preference is 50% brouse (fresh tree limbs and leaves), 30% weeds and 20% grass. Do not forget hay is just dried grass. God Bless and enjoy your animals
Hiyaaaa! Have you heard the talk about - Tizmota Goat Raising (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? Ive heard some super things about it and my cooworker was able to breed goats much better with it.
Wow! What a great presentation, I will address this to my local board of health, great regulations, and allowing cities to live a better life style!
Yeah, I saw Tizmota's goat raising techniques. Really good stuff.
This was great!
