Because none of the contenders want to fight and risk their position when the division isn't a meritocracy. Anyone who fights now is gonna have to wait for Belal to get the shot that he's already earned after Colby gets the shot his lawyers got him. Even if someone close to the top fights and wins now, they're looking at 6-8 months AT BEST before there's a champ and an opening for the next challenger. Then, whoever is objectively the most deserving and put the most work in will probably have to fight again to "mAkE a StAtEmEnT" to get the shot and could lose there. This shit has been happening in a ton of divisions and is inevitable when the contender who everyone knows should be next challenger isn't getting the shot. LW is looking at the same thing with Islam probably having to fight another couple rematches and all the incels who are bitching about him being scared of Volk will bitch about him "only fighting guys he already beat" and in the meantime no other 155 contenders near the top will take a fight until there's a shot available to be earned. Instant title rematches generally also have the same effect especially if it becomes a trilogy

So this is going to probably draw eyebrows but Ben Askren is SUPER underrated because most people only know him from his UFC run which was actually post-retirement and the entire run he was in need of hip surgery. Dude was undefeated across the two next biggest promotions in the sport. His title runs in Bellator and One are probably neck and neck with Nick Diaz in Strikeforce and EliteXC. I don’t have him top 3 but he’s definitely top 5-7 depending on who you rank where.

Kamaru Usman is cut from the same cloth as GSP.

We are in a time in modern mma where it takes more than just being a champion and a winner to be a star. A time where the difference in pay between a champion and a star champion makes every champion want to be a star but that stardom is based on how people perceive you. Not everyone is likable, why? idk.

I liked him, the division was at one of its most exciting moments when he was champ, he was cringe but he was one of the few fighters who made it to the top and kept developing and I can’t tell you how much I hate fighters that get kinda good, then just stop developing any skills(Paddy Pimblett, most heavyweights 😅) but his fights were great. His title win was what made me a fan

WW is stacked

I do think Leon should fight Colby and it certainly feels a bit like he's trying to duck a bad matchup. But equally I think Colby ducked Khamzat to keep his #1 contender spot so I'm not gonna stand up for him now. The main question for me though is who Leon _does_ want to fight. He was saying Jorge before (pure money fight) but he's retired now so what's the plan?

@@I-HAVE-A-BOMB I understand that racists get excited when fighters appeal to the lowest common denominator. Kinda like when the bad guy in wWE says he hates America and John Cena slams him. It’s baby shit I would let it slide if Colby didn’t have such a boring style in the cage. Pillow hands, no submission skills, no smashing ground n pound. Literally the American Belal but he wears a trump hat so you pretend he’s exciting. I’m from New York btw I have an Indian name
