Probably the best Sl tutorial i have ever seen . It's such a complex subject but you made it seem easy. It was comprehensive yet easy to understand . No fluff, no bullshit . This looks great and gives really helpful facts that made me as a watcher understand Eep a hell of a lot more than I did before I watched it . This should be in the SL wiki about Eep
I'm so grateful for this video. I used to love taking pictures in SL and when they changed to EEP I lost all motivation. I couldn't find my old windlight favourite or figure out how to do anything. Coming back to SL recently to try again this has been a godsend for me, so thank you! And thank you for the link to the old settings. I finally have my beloved canimod back!
Finally, someone who can explain things visually. Lots to learn but at least now I can go over this (relatively complicated) 'innovation' without cussing or throwing things. :-)
Very nice! I was staring at the new region settings in Firestorm and sighed , looked up, and rolled my eyes . Thankfully I discovered your video before I pulled my remaining hair out. Very nicely done, simple, and to the point. Thank you. :)
Thank you for this video. Very good job. It explains things the best (out of the many EEP videos), but it's so hard to keep up with. This will probably get me a lot of 'reeeeeeeeee' but I still don't get EEP. My only wish is that someone would give classes on EEP, or there be an active users group for it, plus classes. This makes 13 years in SL for me, and in all that time have I ever been completely stumped and bewildered as with EEP. Those who are cringing right now at the mention of EEP are probably as amazed as I am that such a horrendously complex and fiddly system could be created for such a simple task. The ones who understand EEP, and can operate it properly, are either insane or brilliant or built it. :-) I've read many tutorials on the subject and watched countless videos and am no closer to making anything work properly. OK, so I fixed a sky (no day length, just static) and I still don't see the moon, and it's always midnight with a strange greenish cast that turns red objects and particles to purple. Now this I should probably sell. LOL Yes Windlight was a bit wonky, but it was straight forward. (I would get many requests go around and make custom settings, at different heights - heights that they chose - not limited to a fixed levels system of; Ground, 1000m, 2000m, etc system. Setting 3 or 4 different levels with totally different WL settings at each was easy, once you knew the shorthand) All that WL was missing was a day cycle and I longed for it badly. Well, I got my wish, EEP! No, no, no. I can build (prim and mesh), script, animate, etc... but even Blender is simple (in a side-ways sort of way) compared to all of the various floaters and ways to get to them in the way EEP works. All I want is a 24 hour long day where 19:00 SL time would be a dark midnight with a giant moon (just to the West) and very cool bluish (blue + Listerine?) water with many stars and very few whispy clouds. My guess is there is preset that is close, but only 4 hours, or a "normal" moon or a frightening number of clouds and only a few stars. So, I have to make it myself, but how? Even if I edit a 'close enough' setting -- for my parcel -- it breaks once I start trying to make sense of the sliders and other highly insane settings. Such as the globes for Sun and Moon. Then there's the colors and textures and, I'm freaking out. It's partly the way the tutorials and videos are laid out, but just for EEP. (And I am mentally disabled so concentration is a little problem) Personal settings: I have no interest in those unless I need to know about the unrelated floaters to make a parcel EEP? Are they even related? Then there's always talk about Photo Tools. Whaaaa...? I'm not Michelangelo. Let me explain it this way. We're going to make a thing. Instead of gathering all the parts, for said thing at the same time, into one room at one time, we first have to get a hairbrush from the bedroom, then after balancing that on it's side (don't let it fall) we're sent into the kitchen for plastic wrap and salami. OH NO, you brought both? First get the plastic wrap, then back to the kitchen for the salami, but first we have to lay the plastic wrap out perfectly flat before returning with the salami, and we're not told why. Next step. Wrap the plastic wrap around the brush without knocking it over, then place the salami on the chair near the window. Next step: We're going to need a bucket from the garden and toothpaste from the bathroom, without flushing. Be careful to get the toothpaste first and without returning here get the bucket then grab a 4 meter length of string from the cellar on your way back. Didn't I mention the string before? Well, It has to be done in that exact order (are you remembering any of this?). Now tie the string to the bucket handle, but use a half-hitch tie not a square knot, the bucket must now be affixed to the ceiling. Before getting a hammer and 10penny nails, in reverse order -- from the cellar, temporarily place the bucket on the table and move the salami into the bucket and the wrapped hairbrush where the salami was and balance the toothpaste, with the label facing North, on top of the dresser. Then many more tedious steps until it's complete. OR... We can halfway get our project done by selecting Build > Thing Menu > Name Thing > Enter a name other than "Thing" > Press "apply then OK" > Re-log > upon returning there's a prim with bright purple floating text that says; "Now, click on Build > Thing Menu > Create thing > Set Rotation to -66 degrees and click OK." Yay! Now edit the prim and move the tapioca pudding from the Contents Tab into your Inventory / Settings / Water folder. You did make separate Day, Water and Sky folders under Settings, right? Well, make those because... I honestly don't know, but I was told to by someone and this is important. You are half done, the prim is replaced by a tiny Phillip Linden doll, but before going on you have to learn how to home brew beer. Be aware, this may take some time. Meantime your daughter has run off with the pastor's son -- the Red haired one, not the nice one that you like -- and they are going to each pay half, in cash, on a new Tesla! And you still have your EEP mocking you. If only there were an active group and classes for EEP maybe I wouldn't have an invisible green moon that turns reds to purples and mocks me every 4 hours. Thanks again for the video! Perhaps I need watch it 20 more times and put the string back in the cellar, salami in... well you know the rest. lol
Thank you for the help. im a verteran user that still uses the V1 layout of FS , just needed to add the Quick Preferences to button to my toolbar to access my sky options :)
Thank you for this brilliant video ! Had to go back to Firestorm Viewer and completely forgot how to create my own environment. This video helped me a lot. That's why I checked out your other videos and loved it. I subscribed! I don't know anything about the new MESH BODIES because I didn't care until now, but many things like jewelry only work with mesh. So your video about Maitreya Mesh Body helps me a lot. So thank you again, I'll turned the bell on for more videos. Kindly greetings Blathnaid. Stay healthy, happy and save!
Thank you for your kind words so glad it helped out. That's why I do these vlogs. I try and pick out things I think people have trouble with. It's been a while since I did a tutorial. It's comments like these that inspire me to do more. If you have any suggestions for tutorials I'd be happy to hear and consider it
Hi! Just a quick question in case you see this, would you please explain how to then export the windlight settings you've created so that you can share windlights with others online?
I don't have a 'settings' folder 😳 Edit: Never mind! It created one when I imported my first Windlight. Thanks for the great tutorial! I was dreading EEP
Hi there. Interesting and potentially very helpful tutorial. But I'm having an issue. I am on Opensim and cannot create a new setting - the options are greyed out. Do I have to get the free FS settings from the marketplace before I can do anything?
Good video, and I'm sure this is of special interest to photogs, but this is really way more choices and options than I need, and I'm pretty much overwhelmed. It used to be that when I chose Night it got dark, and Midday it got light, and that was about all I needed. But after fiddling with some of these settings, that no longer happens, and so now I have like no control at all. SL for me is getting to be more work than it's worth.
Try this....go into your personal settings (can be found via the quick prefs button) click the reset button. Then go into environments and choose your day, midnight etc. Hope that works for you 😀
Thanks for showing me where the EEP objects are stored. I just wanted to remove EEP from my parcel and go back to SL defaults. I don't like this new system at all.
Hello, does someone know why since the latest 2-3 releases of Firestorm, i haven't all the preset Windlights? (like Analu Studio 5 and everyone else shown in this video)
Thank you but not much help. At 10:48 you say to click the 1000m box, then your inventory flashes up. It flashes up so fast there's no change in the time stamp. Where did that come from? I double click, right click, nothing. I cannot figure out how to change the sky just at 1000m and not the entire parcel. This is a mainland parcel I own so I am sure I have the rights to edit the sky.
It happens to me that when I want to use phototools the viewfinder gets stuck and it won't let me use the different environments that it brings by default by chance, do you know how to fix that? According to they changed the version to take photos but I don't know how I hope you can help me thanks
So... What was wrong with windlight exactly that mandated such a change? What would one do when even their SL library lacks the enviroments it should have? lol.
I suggest you apply an environment setting to yourself , that way it will stay constant between regions, go into world menu, environments - my environments - right click on the setting you want and choose apply to only myself. Hope that helps
Well when you change a sky or water setting (drop down) it will spin the sky and water and wont keep what you had. And the name will NOT save on the text box, anyway. And the naming of the sky are wildly wierd, like some sunsets will turn my sky black. Thanks for showing me how to kind of save, but the huds are a mess and not well thought out, but thank you.
I really hate the look of this new EEP... Its just too hard on my computer hence why I use Catznip older builds... It makes all my builds look over shiny... I absolutely HATE IT!

So glad it helped! 😀
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial!
Welcome :)

Took me a while to discover you could add and remove buttons to the tool bar!
Thank you so much for this, I will be having fun sorting new sky’s later 😁 Great vid, good clear instructions 😁
Thanks for watching. I was hoping to make it easy to follow

I like the way you explain ...the best SL youtuber 🌹

I even have to refer back to my own tutorial because i forget sometimes lol
@@rosiehelendalesecondlifevlog - Then I don't feel so bad, I'm not alone!
Thanks again! Will you be looking at the new camera angles which seem a bit awkward?
All they did for the camera angles was add to the floater the ability to make your own presets, the rest is the same
I don't have a 'settings' folder 😳 Edit: Never mind! It created one when I imported my first Windlight. Thanks for the great tutorial! I was dreading EEP

Not sure what you mean by getting stuck. I've not had that issue. You could try joining the firestorm group inworld and ask. Someone might know there
Very helpful

What if the windlight options just say shared environment it doesn’t give me any otions to choose others

Its not the easiest of systems and I wouldnt call it user friendly but I hope I've been able to explain it so that people understand it a bit better
What is Penlargerem System? Does it work? I hear most people get permanent enlargement with this popular natural male enhancement.
