    That's a pretty plant. I have a version of those that, it grows here everywhere. I could label it invasive because you have to dig down deep and get those bulbs out as well as the stems. They spread like crazy. They're just green, not that pretty purple color. Merry Christmas!!! Have a wonderful day🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

    The bulbs that were transferred into the little pots, do they grow more bulbs, I mean, do they multiply in order to propagate into more pots?

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, in time, they will make more bulbs. Each spring, I always have more than I need to put back in the pot after I add new soil.

    Hi! My oxalis has never gone dormant, maybe because I keep it in a the same semi sunny spot & keep watering it? Should I let it go dormant? It's at least 4 years old & continues to grow healthy even though the winter.

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! If yours is doing well, I would just keep doing what you are doing. I let ours go dormant in the winter because I just don't have a good place for it in the winter.

    Thanks for the video. What do you feed them with to help them grow?

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really don't feed them much. I usually start with soil that has nutrients for them to use. If I was going to fertilize, it would be with a water soluble balanced fertilizer....maybe once or twice at the most. Most of the time I don't fertilize them at all except for what is already in the soil.

    • @Tehstool
      @Tehstool 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I live in Illinois, USA. Can shamrocks be planted outside? Let go in the winter..... and they will come back? I'm thinking of planting them in pots outside........... that get the afternoon sun. Would they survive that?

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what zone you are in. I've had some come back here after being outside all winter in the ground. We are in zone 6b.

    • @MidwestGardener

      If you are talking about the tubers, I don't know how long you could store them.

  • @davidniemi6553

    Is this species of oxalis grown as an ornamental or for eating? As others have mentioned, I have plenty of common native oxalis growing here, in a fairly wet and shady part of zone 7a. They are edible but not exciting enough to plant on purpose.

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I grow them just as an ornamental. I need to do a little more research before I try eating some. In your zone, I don't think I would plant them in the ground. They can even survive some winters in the ground here.

    • @toejammiepie
      @toejammiepie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To my knowledge oxalis triangularis is entirely edible, including the tubers! I've not tried the tubers yet but I eat the leaves all the time

    I might have missed it but what month did you replant the bulbs? And do you break off the bulbs that grow from the original bulbs and replant those in the smaller pots?

    • @MidwestGardener
      @MidwestGardener  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I planted them after the last frost date, which is May 1st in our area. You can break the bulbs apart if you want, but you don't have to.
