  • The historical novel is one of the most popular literary genres in the world. It was born as such during Romanticism and was consolidated in the realist period that followed, reaching its peak during the second half of the 19th century and the first part of the 20th.
Víctor Hugo, Alessandro Manzoni, León Tolstoy, Pushkin, Fenimore Cooper, Dickens, Gustave Flaubert and Benito Pérez Galdós, are some of its precursors and enthusiasts, among many others. In their fictions, all of them and those who followed them provide a credible vision of the environments, characters, circumstances and landscapes of the historical era they narrate.
In this report we review 11 books by as many authors, which are among the greatest achievements of the genre, offering a more or less broad overview of its evolution.
    Enjoy it!
