- Team GB athlete Laura Kenny has announced her retirement from Cycling. She is the first female athlete in history to win five Olympic gold medals for Team GB, and sits as both the most successful female cyclist, and the most successful British female athlete, in Olympic history.

Tokyo Madison, it never looked like they weren't going to win and that last change on the bell when already in an unassailable lead was such a demonstration of dominance and professionalism.
The women's pursuit when they broke their world record for each round including the final.

I was fortunate enough to meet Laura back in 2016. What a delightful, friendly, down-to-earth woman she was!
One of my favourite TV sporting memories was the first time I saw Laura in a "Devil", I think it was the 2011 European Championships. A tiny wee slip of a 19 year old demonstrating an incredible combination of stamina, speed, acceleration, bike handling and tactical awareness; and on top of that it was supremely entertaining!
The ‘girl next door’ done good. Incredible career, a British sporting legend and a lovely young lady.
That madison race was the best ever Olympic event for me. The best ever.

Laura was a sensational racer . . my favourite female rider.

Her size belies her power and speed. Team GB looked so different on the podiums. Comparatively slim next to so many "Power-lifter" physiques.

As a resident of the next town to the east of where she now resides (yet hasn't picked up the accent) Bury, I love both her and her husband. They did us prouder than proud.

My favourite performance was the 2012 Omnium gold, won by such a narrow margin. You have to feel sorry for Sarah Hammer, a brilliant cyclist, but at the Olympics, she was always coming up against Laura at her best, but she never got closer to beating her than that time in London in 2012 with that single point between them.
