Cheers bar opened last week , he’s been shut for 5 months . One of the very few to survive. Lanterns restaurant is on the top of the pizza company but has been closed for months . Most expats have gone , basically they have been kicked out , made it impossible to renew visa.
My wife in HCMC and I have 2 nail/beauty salons and we are just breaking even paying staff, rent and utilities. We are expecting things to pick up in the lead up to Tet.
Nha Trang used to have a busy retirement community. When they couldn’t extend their visas any longer (May/June/July 2021), thousands were forced to leave. It devastated the town, bankrupted hundreds of businesses, and disrupted thousands of lives.
The covid damage in Asia is self-inflicted. Countries like Greece and Mexico haven't decimated their tourism sectors over the pandemic; they can walk and chew gum simultaneously. On a side note, Nha Trang looks like it has grown tremendously since I was there in '95.
The economy hasn't been sparred globally..even in Canada, the old guard stores have been shuttered. Rebuilding will take some time but hopefully some return.
Things are closed because no tourists. If the tourists come back things will open. How else do you think it's going to work? Of course, it's a chicken and egg thing so neither one is going to happen instantly or simultaneously. It's going to take some time.
I agree. We have opened our doors. Lights on, flashy led signs. We are steadily building our local customers. When doors are open and the lights are on they will come. We are actually in the throws of buying our third business. Let's get this party started.
How sad Nah Trang looks, when I lived there 20 years ago it was thriving with life. Probably the most beautiful city I,ve ever lived in while I was traveling around. I spent nearly two years there, covid has fkd everything.
Not sure what you expected, Nha Trang tourism is built on the Russian and Chinese tourists, with out them this is what happens and with the Chinese having to quarantine for 3 weeks when they return home and Russia having very low vaccination rates it isn't going to change soon.
Saigon started their vaccination program long before Nha - Trang and rightfully so. I got my second vaccination yesterday and I paid some beer money to get it done . Otherwise I would still be waiting. It’s been slowly disappearing since March last year , literally 95% of the places have gone and it brakes my heart to see it in such disrepair .
Right. We are just breaking even in Saigon. We successfully negotiated a big reduction in rent which helped. But we are optimistic and will keep the lights burning and the doors open.
@@peelypeelmeister6432 Good luck , hang on in there . I think one of the problems in central Nha Trang was the rent . Owners did not want to negotiate so most of the people closed the doors and gave the keys back . There was one restaurant I used to go in the center the rent was 80 million a month . He gave it up before the Covid and opened a restaurant in his house . He’s been closed for 20 months , just reopened. There’s no tourists and many of the expats had to leave the country as the government made it impossible to renew visa .
I know so many people in Nha - Trang who have gone bankrupt because of this Chinese virus. I know a guy who had 16 tourists buses , all gone now . The bank took them all back , he’s left with nothing . Many people in the same boat as him unfortunately.
Mission accomplished...get out befor the mold inside the walls at that overated/overpriced hotel makes you ill Bro....Thanks for your tireless efforts to cast light on what's goin down.
When I stayed in the Vin Pearl in Lang Son in April-May '19, I had a great room for about $33 USD. Is there that much difference in just two years and because Nha Trang is on the coast while Lang Son is up near the Chinese border?
Vin Pearl in Lang Son is amazing. The duty manager there went so far out of his way to help us. The car park floor was so clean, we took our muddy boots off after riding our motorbikes around some mountain tracks near the army base somewhere.
Bro, I was there in 1991. Great times. Very few places to stay and quiet. Why are you wearing a mask outdoors? That's insane! The wuflu will not get you outdoors. Beyond paranoid.
CAme in to Nha Trang yesterday (from our resort a bit north) and even though most businesses still closed we had a good day. Bought some “half price” (LoL-right) clothing at Nha Trang Centre, got a few blocks off beach road and found a clean little place for a couples massage, and then had a great dinner at Sailing Club. Yep, Lots of rain but our villa and our resort is great for relaxing few days. Give it 3 months with no resurgence in cases and I think NT will be coming back strong. Life has to get better soon. Vaccines are the only hope to get back to anything normal.
Chris, I am like you- I wouldn’t travel to Nha Trang right now for the reasons you mentioned. I would want to experience the night life, restaurants/bars, being around other people, and just that general SE Asian excitement. Buuut not all travelers are like that. There are definitely segments of people that see things differently. The golfers, may want to go there just to take advantage of the great value on the courses right now. These guys probably didn’t leave their resort under normal circumstances :) And then you got the beach-loving purists that probably prefer to have the whole darn beach to themselves if they could help it and not be bothered by vendors every 3 minutes. They’re the same people that went out of their way to find an isolated/secretive beach spot before Covid. Then you got the more serious scuba divers and surfers that “prefer” to not be around other giggly tourists when they’re surfing or diving…. In my opinion, these groups will spearhead the return to beach towns like Mui Ne, Nha Trang, and Danang….
sad fact is its gonna be a good few yrs before alot of smaller cities get back to anywhere near what they were before... really hope it all comes back to life soon as Nha Trang is high up on my 'To Visit' list but think am gonna wait a yr or two... the whole world has changed because of this thing... we just have to get vacc'd, adapt and move on.. it will all come back in time!!
