I have the original 1.0 version, just missing the bottom so I'll grab 1 or 2, but started going with the Milwaukee packout due to the buy more save more $90 off if you spend $300, so I grabbed 2 3-drawer and 2 2-drawer. Thanks for the review, I'll probably get the small boxes and see if I can hack a way to marry the packout with ridigid system somehow. I'm not a pro, just a DIYer with a bit of OCD.
Just bought mine today with the home depot deal you mentioned. They are very sturdy. But they smell so bad once opened... I had to left them open outside the house for couple of hours. 😂
It would be nice if you could buy an extra little closable hard box (the orange one) for the small/top box there since you said it’s reversible to fit in either side. Don’t think that’s a thing though?
On a side note. I was complaining about having to unstack the boxes to get at the tools. Turns out you can get to all tools with the boxes stacked; you just clip them together on the side, remove the rolling handle, unclip the front and you can flip the tops open without unstacking them and reach for your tools.🤥 😂😂👍. The Gen 1 small top box, you can also flip the lid all the way open to have extra space to place tools..
I got the same set up, my only comment is the wheels are too wide for me to wheel around with. It gives you more room inside but you lose it when you park the boxes next to each other.
Hi there, Just thought I would inform you that in the UK, the tool boxes you are reviewing were first available in our DIY stores branded as JCB. A few years later the branding was rebranded Magnusson. At this point I noticed the RIGID branding. After lengthy research, I found the branding KETER. After careful research I found that KETER, Israel were making these boxes for everybody and anybody. Now here in the UK, they have been rebranded yet again to Erbaur. PERSONAL OPINION: Great boxes. I use them for all my fishing kit... except lately...my Carping kit is going into Milwaukee Packout. Superb for the terrain one has to cross.
Wow you really did your research! Thank you so much for your insight. Its definitely interesting to hear the branding situations and different products released in areas other than the U.S.
Is Rigid making limited stock on drawers or is Home depot pushing Milwaukee ? I bought a drawer unit, and they only had 3 hidden at Home Depot. Checked the sight and were unavailable the next day???
I just ordered all 3 of these from Home Depot as part of their BF sale. $40 off for all 3 so the total price will be $150. They deliver them free of charge so it's much more convenient than picking them up in the stores. Plus you know no one has rummaged through your boxes taking the accessories that are supposed to come with them. I have the 1.0 system already so I'm glad they will be backwards compatible. I think the base rolling box is the best upgrade with the wheels and handle coming off so easily. But the hanging brackets intrigue me as well, so I'm interested to see how they work hanging on a wall. I saw the wheeled base box in the store and played with it a bit last week and liked what I saw. But I could tell some things were missing so that's why I didn't pull the trigger. Plus they had no price marked on them so I thought it would be best to order them online with any BF sale they might have.
@@thewoodshed18 I will reply with my thoughts if I notice anything else that you might not have touched upon. I currently own Milwaukee Packout, DeWalt 1.0 and some 2.0, and Rigid 1.0. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. I've looked at some of the others being offered on the market including Kobalt, Craftsman and T Stack and of course Flex. None of them have enough good reason to buy into those systems except maybe the Flex, although the cost and design being mostly beneficial if you own Flex tools makes it less than desirable for me, at least in my case based on tools that I currently own.
I have about 30 pieces of the Gen 1 system, so it is pretty obvious that I like the system. I have all 3 of the currently available Gen 2 cases and so far like what I see. I used the Gen 2 wheeled cart on a job site a couple of weeks ago and it is definitely an improvement on the Gen 1 case. I'm currently looking to see if some of my current Gen 1 layouts would fit better in Gen 2 boxes, allowing me to retask the Gen 1s for other equipment. I saw a review where someone was complaining that they Gen 2 boxes are flimsy compared to Gen 1 and while they have reduced the thickness of the casting (which reduces the weight of the case), I haven't found any substantial changes to the rigidity of the Gen 2 boxes. Especially when they are closed and latched. But then, only time will tell.

I have ordered to much for now and will need to work with but it is possible to go sideways with an complete setup as explained above. Milwaukee for left purpose and Ridgid for others. Nice review and I look forward. I’m from Belgium.
Regarding the top box; what is the measurement between the inner wall and the first removable divider? Same question; what is the measurement between the two dividers? Thanks for this. If the measurements work out I’m going to buy the small box to put on top of my three drawer box!
Have you seen a way to mount them to the floor? I want to mount them to the floor of a vehicle. Do they make a piece that mounts to the floor and then you could stack 3 boxes or so?
When are they going to make the drawer boxes? I have the older Rigid toolbox setup. I like these better than Milwaukee . The Rigid are just easier to stack and move where you need them. I have no idea why Milwaukee has the aluminum corners ?? They just make their box bulky . I also like the handles on top of the Rigid box for putting in and out of my truck..
I know this is an older discussion but curious about the load capacity of 100lbs. I assume that’s due to the way the handle connects to the box. Just wondering if any owners have had any issues with this design. In the store it seems reasonably sturdy but that’s empty.
Unsure however, I can assume they'll have one in the near future to compete with companies such as Craftsman and Ryobi! I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I know! Thanks for watching!
I travel by air on mine but it doesn't hold up that great. I've had holes in the box, broken handle locks, broken handles, broken wheels, and broken carts. I wish they would be more sturdy. Even if it was at the cost of some of the space inside the box.
Can you you put the smaller boxes on the wheels without the large bottom box? Like is it the same system as the wall mount? Would be handy for those projects that I need multiple smaller boxes but not the large box.
Good question! Sadly you can't, it has to be the larger box. I agree that it would be beneficial and maybe we'll see a solution in the future! Thanks for watching!
Yes! The two big boxes can be stacked together. I'm pretty sure you can find the large box on its own and buy it that way but if you want two rolling carts, the base boxes will stack!
Yes you can. I was going to do just that, but the XL box is currently on sale for $49 without the wheel kit. Same dimensions. Saved the $20 bucks charged for the 2nd set of wheels, picked up a $29 small box for common used tools. Purchasing online is best. They couldn't find them in stock. Asked me to order online and come back, they were up in the racks. Wheels detach so easy, swap to other XL box and off you go.
a bit pricey when compared to the older models. wouldn't jump the gun. I tried the new rolling cart and yes it's an improvement, but I will wait when they have some kind of sale.
@@thewoodshed18 thanks man, it turned out the storage system ProGear is for sale, I have it, but the small organizers from ProGear 2.0 are not for sale in Russia (( Probably because in Russia there is only Keter, no Ridgid.
Didn’t watch the whole video, but kind of unsure about how long these boxes will last.. the handle and overall quality feels cheap and shakes a lot more than any other system I’ve bought.. the handle wiggles a lot side to side, the locking mechanisms to attach additional boxes kind of seems loose and willing to break free or break off and you don’t get any good inside storage pieces like with what comes with the Masterforce and identical Beaur Boxes from Harbor Freight. Overall the thickness of Ridgid boxes seems thinner than any others..
Oh man, I didn't know it was that bad over there! I've been trying to find the little organizer that they just released and it is not available either and I thought that was bad enough lol. Thanks for watching good luck!
@Edison A. So Ridgid boxes are made by TTI which is the same company that makes Milwaukee boxes. So there definitely is an expectation of higher quality with these Ridgid boxes.
@@ryanknuth6915 It should be covered over Ridgids limited lifetime warrenty. I would look into submiting a claim on ridgids website or maybe home depots
Yeah, most people like myself had to go to multiple stores. If they don't have it on the floor, try giving the associate the SKU number to see if it's hiding on the top in boxes
Kind of stinks they rather include the useless wall mounts instead of giving some more organization inside the box… I have some Harbor Freight Baeur boxes and those came with a much better top tray that resembles a traditional one from tool boxes and you get two dividers in the Baeur with slots for tape measure, drill bits (big spade bits or larger wood drilling bits) aswell as areas for things like screwdrivers, pliers other hand tools and they give you a elastic strap to further hold those items…. Far more useful out of the box
I would agree that they have more options and possibly more durable boxes. However the price point of entry is a huge difference. With Ridgid being around $180 and Flex being $300, it just depends on your needs. Homeowner, diyer, small business owner, Ridgid. Contractor and up, Flex. Whatever is more cost effective. Thanks for watching!
Packouts are def the best hands down no denying it….only problem is no matter what case u buy they are insanely expensive….these Ridgid cases are prob the best bang for your buck….my only complaint with the 1.0 system was the wheels and especially the handle were so flimsy….i bent the handle in prob 2 months…looks like they’ve upgraded it on the 2.0s….def the way to go if you actually want to have money to buy tools to put in your tool box

Good question! I've used it extremely lightly so I hope others can give feedback on long-term durability!
i like that they dont have the wheels taking space inside the bottom box and for 69 right now a good deal although not as heavy duty as the packout
I agree, it's much more affordable but at the cost of durability. For my application, it works well though!
I have both and the Rigid is more compact and very rugged FWIW
Good review. Would've liked to see how some tools fit in there seeing how they are all different sizes and shapes. Thanks anyway.
You got it! Thanks for the input! I will do my best to show some organization in the coming weeks
Great review. when is Ridgid going to release a Pro Gear 2.0 two-drawer tool box?
Unsure however, I can assume they'll have one in the near future to compete with companies such as Craftsman and Ryobi! I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I know! Thanks for watching!
They already did. Its online st homedepot
Hey Donnie, great videos. Does the 2.0 Pro Gear medium box interface with the 2.0 Pro Gear dolly on its own?
I travel by air on mine but it doesn't hold up that great. I've had holes in the box, broken handle locks, broken handles, broken wheels, and broken carts. I wish they would be more sturdy. Even if it was at the cost of some of the space inside the box.
The cart should've doubled as a true 2 wheel Dolly as well.
Why can’t you get these in Canada?
Bought the 2nd generation, it's great except somehow you lose room?
Appreciate you big dawg gonna cop one this weekend 🤙🏻
Of course man, thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you find a set!
Thanks for watching!
can you buy two of the rolling carts, remove the wheels from one and stack them together if needed?
The Ridgid brand at Australia call AEG, AEG Tool Box not tough than the Dewalt or Milwaukee and the price very identical to the Dewalt
Tougher than pretty Dewalt boxes
What key locks you recommend ... I bought a pair but they are too wide for the "lock holes ..." just realized ... I have an older version ...
Good question, honestly I have never had to lock up my toolboxes so sadly I don't have an answer. Hopefully, someone can help in the comments!
@@thewoodshed18 TY
@@thewoodshed18 I'l l just wrap a chain through the handles, etc. and key lock it ...and chain it to the job gangbox ...
@@clemedicaredotcom7446 Good idea
a bit pricey when compared to the older models. wouldn't jump the gun. I tried the new rolling cart and yes it's an improvement, but I will wait when they have some kind of sale.
Definitely wouldn't be a bad option, especially with the holidays coming up
Currently $69 for the rolling lower, $49 without wheels, $39 medium, $29 small. Great boxes!
@@movaughn20 yea, this is a buy at this price, but not the original price. I returned them just to get this deal
$39.99 for the top? Abs I sad the Black Friday ad today was $49.99 and now $39.99
tell me pls, boxes of the second generation can be docked with boxes of the first generation??
yep they can!
@@thewoodshed18 thanks man, it turned out the storage system ProGear is for sale, I have it, but the small organizers from ProGear 2.0 are not for sale in Russia (( Probably because in Russia there is only Keter, no Ridgid.
@@SevElektro No problem! Interesting how different countries work, thanks for watching!
Is gen 2 lower box deeper than gen 1
Check the home depot listings to double check but I think they're an inch deeper
How many can u stack how high
Didn’t watch the whole video, but kind of unsure about how long these boxes will last.. the handle and overall quality feels cheap and shakes a lot more than any other system I’ve bought.. the handle wiggles a lot side to side, the locking mechanisms to attach additional boxes kind of seems loose and willing to break free or break off and you don’t get any good inside storage pieces like with what comes with the Masterforce and identical Beaur Boxes from Harbor Freight. Overall the thickness of Ridgid boxes seems thinner than any others..
I'm stuck in Canada right now, they don't even know what you're talking about when you ask in-store. Ha!
Oh man, I didn't know it was that bad over there! I've been trying to find the little organizer that they just released and it is not available either and I thought that was bad enough lol. Thanks for watching good luck!
Great review thanks!!
Excellent video !!
Thank you very much! So glad you enjoyed!
how tall is the handle when pushed in all the way in, 12:34 ?
Does it still smell horribly like gen 1?
Yrs it still smells when new
what company owns Ridgid?
@Edison A. So Ridgid boxes are made by TTI which is the same company that makes Milwaukee boxes. So there definitely is an expectation of higher quality with these Ridgid boxes.
Ridgid tool box is all about value
I agree and this system definitely provides the best value for its price point. Thanks for watching!
Loving me some of the old ones for about half the price eh eh 😜
You bet! And the best part is that they still work with the new system! I might have to pick up the cooler soon! Thanks for watching!
Good quality
Pretty cool
Lifetime warranty on this??
Yep! Comes with Ridgid's Limited Lifetime warranty!
Anyone know about the warranties on the 1.0? My lid snapped on the bottom wheel case
@@ryanknuth6915 It should be covered over Ridgids limited lifetime warrenty. I would look into submiting a claim on ridgids website or maybe home depots
@@ryanknuth6915 call ridgid LSA they will take care of you. You did register for the LSA?
Can't find the top piece anywhere.
Yeah, most people like myself had to go to multiple stores. If they don't have it on the floor, try giving the associate the SKU number to see if it's hiding on the top in boxes
@@thewoodshed18 thats the next step thanks.
@@maness2112 No problem! Thanks for watching!
Of course they're all sold separately 😅
Flex is better set up imho
I would agree that they have more options and possibly more durable boxes. However the price point of entry is a huge difference. With Ridgid being around $180 and Flex being $300, it just depends on your needs. Homeowner, diyer, small business owner, Ridgid. Contractor and up, Flex. Whatever is more cost effective. Thanks for watching!
buy one just one packout of My size or style and you'll throw that rigid away my friend. garuntee
That small box is a greay box, kinda could carry like a brief case... But,, poorly designed, it's obvious this needs a handle. Cmon Rigid, do better.
Milwaukee system is far superior to this
Its more heavy duty at twice the price
