Joseph II is such a frustrating story to learn about because he could’ve been a great leader if he slowed down with the changes and had a much gentler approach with his radical changes. Some of his changes are very modern and they sound like good ideas but he needed to be more careful with all the changes. Such a shame

Some of the descendants of Maria Theresa (the last Habsburg) were good looking, but even Maria Theresa and her husband were related genetically. The Habsburg-Lorrain dynasty looked like their ancestors because they kept marrying genetically related people, it's amazing to know that some monarchs have blood of the old dynasty's, the most famous one is the king of Spain. Queen Elizabeth has blue blood too but the dynasty's of England changed name often, and king Felipe is directly related to the old monarchy

You are underestimating the importance of the church those days. It is called the Holy Rome Empire for a reason. Rome has it's own power above all the kings and princes and having a high position in the church gives power to the whole family. There were also some abts that were ruled as little kingdoms. Some by wealthy women of nobility and that were no nuns!

Thank you Lindsay for your interesting videos and thanks for acknowledging the awful treatment of the Romanichal people. It is an ethnicity not often spoke about other than in stereotypical and racist cannotations. You present the information contained in any video with grace and sensitivity... Many thanks 🥰💖

First off, I want to say I love your videos! I'd love to see ones on Empresses (Both regnants and consorts) of Russia as well as other queens/empresses, like Marie of Romania, Zita of Bourbon-Parma, Elena of Montenegro, etc . Your queens of the world series was honestly one of my favorites.
Two things though on this video...your family tree image shows Maria Theresa's father (Charles) as an image that's actually her husband, which I think was corrected later. Second...Isabella's mother died of smallpox. Not childbirth. Just a heads up for double checking editing and future videos!

I've never related much to any of the people in your videos more then Elizabeth Christine of Brunswick and being put on an unhealthy diet. When I was a child doctors thought I was anorexic so they put me on a butter and ice cream diet, which has ruined my health and gut function to this day. Weird that we've both dealt with the same issue nearly 400 years apart

Maria-Theresa was not Co-Emperor, she was Empress Consort.. She did not mind, because the title of emperor was a prestigious one which her son will inherit. It was a title without power, just grandeur. Her true power reside in her many titles which hold actual power. Most notables of them are Sovreing of Austria, Queen of Bohemia, King of Hungary, and many more. She never sing her letter as Empress, but prefer her others title. Great video, Keep up the good work,
