Thursday March 21, 2024 I am redoing the Bible in a year podcast for the third time ( I did The Bible in a year podcast in 2021, 2022 and now in 2024. In 2023 I did The Catechism in a year podcast ). Thank you so, so much Father Mike Schmitz and Ascension Press / Presents for this opportunity. Deo gratias.

From the Latin word Cor meaning 'heart' comes courage. Thus, to lose courage is to lose heart, and we must be of good courage, meaning, we must have our heart filled with trust and confidence as God is with us through trials, failures, and in every place. We must not forget the light (good situations, blessings) when tempted in the dark (difficulties and trials). We must also remember the lessons learned during difficulties. God is fighting for us. We just need to say yes and hold His hand. An excellent episode showing how God made Joshua the successor of Moses and increased the goodwill among the people. The difficult path was made easy thanks to the help of a lady. Love the Psalm as it is a prayer to request mercy from God. Thank you so much for your work, and prayers, Fr. Mike. Thank you Team Ascension. God bless you all and the fellow listeners. Keeping you all in my prayers!

Be strong and of good courage; being careful to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you to do..stands firm today as it was in the old testament..now the faith of Rahab (a harlot) will be beginning of a different type of servant to the Lord, ultimately leading to the lineage of the Messiah..God chooses who is willing not according to abilities of great academics, but of one who's open to FAITH. Heavenly Father help us to understand and follow your path towards what ever your calling us to do, to build your kingdom here in this broken world..prayers for Father Mike and all who are on this journey through the BIY family 🙏❤

May your word take deep root in our hearts and transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear and understand the word of God in the Scriptures that we may revere and treasure both the Old and the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness and humility, and with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students and faithful disciples of your Word. May our hearts never grow dull and may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

I am thrilled to be starting a new Book of the Bible with Joshua. This is my first time reading this book and I am excited to hear the Lord's Word once again :)
Joshua 1 picks up after the end of Deuteronomy with the death of Moses. God appoints Joshua as the next leader of Israel and assures him that they will be entering the Promised Land of the Covenant with Abraham. Victory is assured because God is on their side. So long as they obey the Lord's Commandments and have strength and courage, they will triumph over their enemies. Joshua commands the officers of Israel to gather the people to cross the Jordan. He reminds the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the Tribe of Manasseh to heed the Lord's Commandments. They promise their allegiance to God and to Joshua.
Joshua 2 shows Joshua appointing spies to survey the land of Jericho. They lodge in the house of a harlot named Rahab who hides them in the roof from soldiers of the King of Jericho. Before they leave, Rahab begs them to show kindness to her father's house and to spare her family. Joshua's spies promise to spare them if she is true to her word in protecting them. She binds a scarlet cord to her window as a reminder of this promise. With Rahab's help, they escape the authorities of Jericho and report what they saw to Joshua. They note that this is indeed the Lord's Promised Land and that the people in the land are fainthearted.
Joshua 3 shows Joshua crossing the Jordan with all the Israelites with the Ark of the Covenant leading the way. God promises to exalt Joshua in the eyes of Israel so they may see him as a successor to Moses. When the Ark of the Covenant is brought into the Jordan, the upstream waters of the river stood still allowing the Israelites to pass through.
Joshua 4 shows God instructing Joshua to establish a memorial of the crossing after they finish crossing the Jordan. They shall remember that the waters stood still when the Ark of the Covenant passed over and the memorial is established in Gilgal. The memorial also serves as a reminder that the Israelites must fear the Lord. 40,000 Israelites prepare for battle against Jericho.
Psalm 123 calls for us to look to the Lord who dwells in Heaven so that we may see His Mercy. We pray for Mercy because we have contempt in our hearts. We pray to eliminate contempt and scorn from our souls with God's Mercy. Thanks be to God!

God has answered many of my prayers. I know he is with us yet this is true how easy I let myself be frightened. I missed my RCIA class today because I had very poor sleep last night after suffering a panic attack (something I have been dealing on and off with since I was a teenager, now in my 30s). At times like that I tell myself that my faith isn't strong enough because I let fear take over me. I am trying to change that mindset of mine. I truly want to be strong and courageous.

My classmate and high school got me into the Catholic church. I was baptized 1979. I was 22 years old at that time.. Now I'm age 66 I've been in the church for 45 years. I'm enjoying going to mass every Sunday and portaking of the Holy. communion. Every week.. And I'm so grateful for my 2. Classmates and high school to got me into the church Unfortunately one of my classmates. Passed away. Cause I wanted to tell her I'm back into the church. But I've been told by the priest that takes my confession. She knows that you came back.

    Hi Fr Mike

And a thought came to me before the exposition and would not leave me without an answer. "What if you were to receive Holy Communion from an angel?" I said to myself, "How wonderful to receive Holy Communion from an angel?" But the thought would not leave me. Then I said, "No, that would not be wonderful to receive Holy Communion from an angel for how would I know I was receiving Sanctifying Grace when I receive from man after such an experience." Yet the thought persisted. I said, "Hasn't it been enough that I said "No" to the Angel." But still the thought pursued me; pestering me right there at the exposition. So then I said to the thought, Ok already, if I had no choice but to receive Holy Communion from an angel have the angel break the host and give me the smallest portion and give the other fragments to those more worthy than I." It was to this answer the thought escaped me. During Mass when it was time for Holy Communion my priest gave me a broken host and for a moment that in that small fragment all the matter in the universe were transubstantiated for the most brief moment. But I didn't perceive it at the time and I went through my usual motions to cross myself and begin praying St Pio's "Stay With Me Jesus Prayer." I got into my car after Mass and froze because driving became foreign to me. I nearly panicked with an overwhelming darkness so I prayed for St Christopher to get me safely home." As I got near home a thought came to me, "I need to unpack what happened in Mass at Holy Communion that day. So when I got home I realized I had a tiny personal Eucharistic miracle. I regaled my experience to my priest as an encouragement to him and now I tell you to encourage you whoever reads this. Be more aware than I was at the miracle that happens upon the alter every time the gifts of bread and wine becomes transubstantiated into Jesus' Body and Blood. DO NOT MISS IT! Blessings to you all with the a blessing of salvific grace in the Sacraments. You are my stack of stones from the Jordan River that I never forget.

Thank you for your post. Too often I just go through the motions without dully recognizing the miracle of transubstantiatio. You helped me.

Interesting enough my granddaughter picked up a stone 9 years ago, she was a little girl then. We were standing outside of a church in Dixon, New Mexico for a family funeral. Which just happened to be our Family church for over a hundred years. Which is pretty close to the beautiful Rio Grande. It made me think of the river rock my granddaugher picked up that day. The day was a complete blessing. St. Anthony's is almost directly across the road from my Grandpa's house, where my Mom and her siblings where born. My Mom was also, baptized at St. Anthony's Church. Praying for all of you. It is an incredible journey. Thank you Father Mike.
Please God help us all to be strong and to have courage.
