I struggle not to cry - knowing Freddie sang this fully aware of his own impending demise. Unbelievable strength and shout out to Brian and Roger putting this together .
This video is so sad and was made to spead awareness about AIDS and I think it is somehow related to Freddie's Charity or the Mercury Phoenix Trust which was set up by the remaining members of the band to help in the fight against AIDS. A portion of all monies that are Official Queen go into the Mercury Phoenix Trust and Freddie's 1/4 of all profits still go to his estate which includes his charity.
On September 5, 2019, the animated music video for the song was released on TH-cam to promote the NEVER BORING compilation album. FYI - September 5th is Freddie’s birthday! 🎂 🎊
The video was made much later after the fact but it is very well done. Freddie never wanted to be a Gay icon and he did hide his disease until the day before he died. The stigma of Aids is mostly gone these days but at that time things were very different.
Thanks, Mann.. such a beautiful song.. to me, the video/graphics are interesting and meaningful, but distracting from Freddie's amazing vocals... appreciate your reaction..
The animation was after Freddie died aimed to show aids to the world. I always see this being Freddie and his husband Jim, Jim must have felt that by his death bed. People did view auds victims like that guy. One of my best friends died 1987 aged 33 I think he was infected 77. His family abandoned him,he lost his job we were both social workers, it was only ne with him when he died, blind and in agony. It was not a pleasant to watch disease. Scandal next Freddie's already sick but pushed through the pain, written about Brian's divorce and Freddie no one knew what was wrong but it didn't stop them making thing up and houndi g him till he lrft England for a while xx
Thanks for this one, Mann. For those of us who lived at the time when AIDS was first being talked about, we were told it was only gay people who were getting it and dying so we had nothing to worry about. I was just out of school, in my first job and everything was "legal", ya get me? I'd had boyfriends before but never even seen a condom. When we were later told everyone, EVERYONE could get AIDS it seemed like people actually started to care and were pushing for things to be done. Of course, now it involved them, they were interested. I'm pretty sure you will never have seen the video I am going to link after this comment (in case YT wipes the link out). The video is "Reagan Administration's Chilling Response to the AIDS Crisis". A reporter asks what was the POTUS doing about the crisis, they all laugh and ask the reporter is he worried about catching it, implying he must be gay to care. It's absolutely sickening to hear. I don't expect you to "react" to it but it is a good little history lesson on how things were back then. Sending love from across the pond, Helen in the UK. xxx
If you were around during the AIDS epidemic, you knew people who died. One of my friends went to a funeral every week. It is such a horrible and tragic time in the history of the world that we allowed so many people to die without doing anything if you are a reader, you might look at the boys in the band. It’s about the very beginning of aids and how it was handled. There was a guy very high up in the national Institute of health who was gay, but didn’t want anybody to know it so he didn’t do anything to promote research. A real travesty.
Have you ever seen the Whitehouse Press Release video from the Reagan Admin in 1982. They are laughing and asking a reporter if he had it because who asked what was the POTUS doing about AIDS. It's on VanityFair's channel names Reagan Administration's Chilling Response to the AIDS Crisis. I'll try and link it but YT often wipes out links.

Who was that? I feel like many deaths occurred from the treatment, rather than the infection.
