    Marie-Antoinette: Let them eat cake.
    Erin: Go buy an iPhone
    I kept waiting for Erin to say it was a joke and people should only spend on a phone what they are comfortable with but that line never came.

      She said she doesn’t know anything about Androids, which was to say she was laughing at herself by saying she can’t tell you where to find the info in Android because she only knows iPhones. It was her version of light sarcasm: “I don’t know Android so you’ll have to get a phone i do know”. It’s a joke. It would be different if the video was about how to save money. It wasn’t. The part of the video was about where to find summary information in your settings.

    Good Points. Especially the idea of recording personal property for insurance. I would add to evaluate your home insurance to make sure you have adequate replacement value in a world where construction costs are increasing - especially if you are often upgrading your home.

    Excellent advice and reminders for those often overlooked maintenance tasks. I really liked the movie inventory idea. I have an inventory app on my iPhone that while excellent for the detailed library it created with photos, purchase date, cost etc, was too much effort to maintain. A quick video is so much easier and I can reserve my inventory app for those items that need specific coverage with my insurance company. Bravo!
    I am happy to hear you and your baby are healthy. Here is to a healthy and prosperous 2024!
    (BTW, I cracked up at your phone joke. Had to hit the pause button to finish laughing! But then I have been watching your channel for awhile now and get your humor. Too bad some were offended.)

    If you have a Safe Deposit Box where you keep important documents, make sure others including beneficiaries are on the access/owner list. Being able to get to those documents when needed can be really helpful when they are truly needed. You can even add beneficiaries to accounts like CD's and brokerage accounts.

    Good morning Erin and Happy New Year. I'm 12 years into my retirement journey and have (2) life insurance policies. A term life from my former employeer and a paid up whole life I've had for years. They are simply an additional layer in my overall estate/legacy planning, which we are reviewing at this time. I have always kept an eye on our credit reports and like the idea of the credit freeze for added protection and will do it. I am so glad you and the baby went through that challenge and are okay. What a blessing! I hope you have an abundantly blessed new year. Larry, Central Valley, Ca.

Also, checking the beneficiaries was smart too!

    I have a term policy that covers 12.5 years of our living expenses until I turn 65 after which I will not need to continue to insure myself or my wife. I'm the only one working, and my two sons will finish college when I'm 60. My resolutions are to maintain health and fitness, build up my emergency fund to its goal, read a book a month, and take a family vacation.

      Talk to Apple about that. Apple, by default, as usual, employs a proprietary meesaging app, imessage. I believe there is a way to do it, but being an Android user, I do not know.@@ErinTalksMoney

      @@ErinTalksMoney I'm an Android user by choice and an Apple shareholder. I won't give any one company all of the eggs in my basket. Until Apple opens their walled garden to others, I will stay with Android. Part of the reason you can't easily share videos with non-Apple users is because Apple uses iMessage exclusively with other Apple users. Sending videos to non-Apple users is possible but the resolution is garbage because Apple won't support RCS messaging. Supposedly Apple will adopt some form of RCS in 2024 but likely it will be dumbed down. I don't care about blue or green bubbles but I do expect text messaging to be seamless across platforms. I also use Signal for global messaging which is platform agnostic and works beautifully.
      I have really enjoyed your down to earth financial advice over the months/years. I'll continue to watch despite your "everyone should be an iPhone user" comment. From an information security and privacy perspective, any critical data should not be kept with only one technology provider. Diversification makes sense with technology just as it does for invenstments.
      Best wishes to you and your family. -MikeF

    Things i have done .Emergency fund in place. Some cash on hand . Good tires on vehicle, food storage and water on hand . Keep Gas tank full, vehicle maintenance current, blankets, warm clothes, good shoes for the climate on hand. Keep vehicle and house payments current or for me paid off. Insurance payments current. Rent and Property taxes current. Short , medium and long term investments in place, always strive for no consumer debt or debt elimination in progress a priority. . Another heat source available if loose utilities. Due to a hurricane knocked out power for a week had kerosene heater and kerosene in place. Moved to the mountains now so generally heat with natural gas and electric , but have wood stove and firewood in place amd the kerosene heater and kerosene on hand too. Just some additional things to consider. Merry Christmas and a prosperous and safe New Year.

    Great video! Word to the wise on credit freezes: Last time I did one of these I was in the military and it was very hard to unfreeze. The credit reporting agency had a verification process to unfreeze that required answering a lot of questions about your address that were difficult to get through. For example, they didn’t recognize my overseas military address! Maybe this is better now, but just something to be aware of.

    Recently I had an uncle who passed away who never married or had children. He also was the last of his siblings to die. When we unsealed his will, my Uncle left everything to his brothers and sisters. According to state law, the will ended up in Probate Court, and the judge eventually divided up my Uncle assets among his nieces and nephews - but it took time - over three years before everything was settled. If my Uncle had updated his will, the process would have been much quicker.

    Honest question- I don't understand the apple superiority thing. You're basically saying Apple should have a monopoly on cell phones? That seems like a bad idea. I know it's not that serious but truly, can someone explain to me why apple phones are that much superior? I do know they work well with everything else in the Apple ecosystem, and generally there are better options for phone cases and accessories- at least vs someone like me using a budget level Samsung model. Is there something inherently better about the user experience otherwise?

    • @ErinTalksMoney
      @ErinTalksMoney  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Haha, I certainly can’t answer the question for everyone, but I can speak to my experience. On a personal level Apple products make my personal life much easier. I lose my phone about 20 times a day, it is my Apple Watch that helps me find it. Transferring files between my phone, and my iPad, and my MacBook is immediate. What I do on one device, shows up in real time on the other. And the editing software that built in to the MacBooks, is absolutely phenomenal. (Very helpful for someone who wants to do a TH-cam channel ) Where as a PC, it would require us purchasing additional software.
      Now, on the flipside, in my business, at my company, we use PCs. Quite simply, because they have better functionality across the more software platforms than Apple products do. Apple products actually cause issues with many of the software that we have to use in my workspace. So we specifically will not use Apple computers in my line of work.
      So for my personal life, Apple products make my life easier. For my professional, windows based PCs actually make my life easier. So I guess I entirely depends on the situation.

      Apple has been called out many times over recent years over their monopolistic practices, and continued use of proprietary components ( a recent ruling in the EU has required that they stop using the proprietary lightning cable, and convert to USB c, like the rest of the world) And the blue/green issue with texts is their refusal to conform to accepted standards. They are gluing many of their computers together, so they are the enemy of people that believe in the "Right to Repair" movement. I know people that have loved their hardware that are abandoning their computers because now they are soldering memory onto their motherboards, so that they cannot be upgraded. And the list goes on... Google "unsavory business practice by apple"

    The beginning of a new year is a good time to also review your investment portfolio, and consider rebalancing. The fact that trading is low-volume and that markets are often closed during the holiday offers investors a quiet moment to reflect on whether the current composition of their portfolio is adequate to their situation and needs.
    Here in Canada, we are also rewarded every January 1 with new room in our "Tax-Free Savings Accounts" (TFSAs, equivalent to the U.S. Roth), and if there is cash on hand, there's no better time to contribute our annual maximum ($7000 in 2024) and take advantage of tax-free growth through the year to come.

    If you each have life insurance available through your employers why would buy open market term life insurance in a rush in your 3rd trimester? Did the plan not allow election modifications for major life events like a marriage or birth?Mine did. I only carry the max offered by my employer for me and my spouse. I've never considered buying more. It is 10x my salary or $500k for her. We had considered buying more for her. It is wild to see 30x being recommended. Avoiding financial hardship for up to 10 years seemed sufficient to me. 30x is an entire career's worth of earnings. Glad you made it through the delivery without too much trauma. Happy New Year!

I gained back weight since getting life insurance in 2020 and Ive been waiting until I lost weight again, but it hasn't happened. I should have just done it years ago.

    Well as a financial channel promoting saving money your Android comment is very disappointing. Android phones are equivalent especially to today with the higher end Samsung and Google Pixel phones and are usually more economical. What a snob! Another person with their fashion piece of Apple technology. This is a prime example of people owning Apple technology and think they are better than everybody else. My advice is stick with financial advice. I just unsubscribed. Oh by the way this was my first video I ever commented on.

      I’m sorry my Apple comment came across as offensive, it was my intention that it was a light hearted joke. I can see that it was not taken that way. I am sorry for that. This is an opportunity for me to learn that I need to be more careful with my words going forward. Sorry to see you leave the channel, all the best.

      Well my first reply got deleted somehow. Had a link to CBS news story about mini beep which allows Android phones to use the Ichat protocol so you see a blue chat bubble from an Android device. Apple breaks it by changing the Ichat protocol, because they have to keep their wall garden. I am glad your happy with your Apple products just don't throw shade at my platform, because Apple is not as superior as people think. Thanks for the apology. @@ErinTalksMoney

    Get an iPhone? Terrible financial advice in my opinion. What are you spending $1000k on a phone that lasts 3 years? My $200 phone works just fine and pretty much does everything an iPhone does except turn your texts blue. Maybe take that $800 bucks you saved and invest it.

    • @ErinTalksMoney
      @ErinTalksMoney  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      That would be a wonderfully smart move if everyone invested the difference 👏
      PS - my first 60 or so videos here on TH-cam were all filmed on and edited on an iPhone, so it did a smidge more than turn my text blue. It gave me a side hustle 🙏
