Interesting. SCIENCE! My personal wow factor has been for a long time the "Curve Eq" sic, whatever it's called. I do pre Eq on input, if needed, basic amp knob tweaks, go to the cab curve, and if needed the final output eq. The cab curve eq is huge in my mind though. It's like using para Eq with real amps, but way better control in a modeler realm.
Hi. Is it possible to use some of these principles to create a 12 string simulator using the Pitch Shifter? Asking it do add 1 octave just for the lower strings freqs?
Another cool way to use the modifiers is if you have a 7 or 8 string guitar. You could set an EQ or amp tone stack to adjust the tone as you play lower or higher notes. By cutting bass on the lowest notes you would keep those tight and then make the higher notes sweeter by bringing it back in.
Leon...you're creeping up on 100K subscribers! When I first subscribed to your channel, you had just a few thousand subs. Well done sir. My favorite guitar channel on YT, by far!
Okay, that's pretty fucking cool lol. Tone and feel aside, this is the kind of stuff that makes me feel like I'll never build another rig without a Fractal in it. The thing covers every base you can imagine, and even the ones you can't.
Fascinating. In my misspent youth I would marvel at how some of Ty Tabor's guitar parts seemed to have a dry, crunchy tone on the low strings but wet, shimmery tone on the high strings at the same time, theorizing that he must have some sort of split pickup system sending EAD to one amp and GBE to another. This was, of course, before I discovered bass players. 😅
a very cool trick indeed.. remembering back when you first demo'd it was quite eye opening.. I've never employed it in a live gig situation but I can envision using for certain songs that use short bursts of solo licks that then return to rhythm guitar duties.. this would be way easier than popping back and forth on my FC-12.. thanks LT for refreshing this magical trick.
@@LeonTodd Awesome. Haha. It was a total reminder for me about the pitch follower. I've used it to pull the amp bass down on my amp block when I am playing low notes (poor man's MComp), but hadn't thought of doing more stuff like this. I'm already doing it to push in a little amp boost level into one of my lead scenes. So...Thank you!!!!
This level of control is polarizing. The control freak half of my brain is at odds with the rational half.... You really need this..... Will I simply disappear down a rabbit hole and stop actually playing the guitar??
Had my Axe 3 for 4 years and never looked at this preset but I do use the pitch follower in mine. I don’t use the delay and reverb too though….great idea! This is awesome Leon and thanks for sharing!
Indeed, one may tweak EVERY pickup, on Every Axe in their arsenal , as well as tweaking the instruments EQ to your liking as it listens to your every command, as you NOT think about dancing on a pedalboard. lol
Love the tones out of the Fractal units! There might be a few other products that do this as well: the Empress Effects Zoia, the Poly Effects Beebo / Digit / Hector, & the Great Eastern FX co XO. Empress & Poly have multi-FX built into their units, whereas Great Eastern is just a frequency crossover in a pedal. Just in case dropping that kind of cash on a Fractal isn’t in the budget, there’s more out there that can be a bit more budget friendly.
This is why anyone who says that Fractal is too complicated is full of bunk. This is the type of stuff I use to dream about doing back in the day. Thanks!
I think you misunderstand the criticism. Fractals aren't complicated; they are cumbersome and difficult to use in a live setting, and much easier to control via their software than the actual device. The UI and buttons on the actual unit are garbage compared to their competitors who are offering touchscreen integration and more obvious and smooth-lined controls. No one is saying Fractal is impossible to figure out - they are saying you could do the same thing with probably three other modelers in half the button presses and half the time, for sometimes half the price. Hell, you could buy a nice amp and some pedals and do it even easier, for around the price of one of these units. I've been with Fractal for a bit, and I'm ashamed of all the simps that pretend like this unit is the best there is and destroys the competition - it doesn't. It's good, but so is the Quad Cortex, Tonex, and a million other modelers. If Fractal releases a version with a touch panel where you essentially get the "edit" software at your fingertips (but also improves the software), then they'd be in a better spot, but after experiencing their customer service and forum, if I'm buying a new unit, I'd probably buy something else. Don't get me wrong, this feature is neat - but it's not really game-changing, and there ARE other modelers and units that do this.
@@KudaBear-jy1zl If 1% of what you wrote had an ounce of truth it might be worth reading. Some people read classic novels and others like picture books. There’s the best and then there’s the rest. Honestly for those that just play insanely distorted tones I imagine it doesn’t make much difference. But for real tube edge of break up and warm cleans nothing touches it. The FM3 price to feature blows everything away. Especially now. Oh and I misunderstood nothing. I’ve been around for a long time and seen a ton of gear…”cumbersome and difficult to use” is another way of saying complicated. Not sure what you’re proving and to who.
love this sort of Fractal magic, their modifiers are really killer in a lot of creative applications, i wonder if you used a 36 fret guitar at some point would it explode from hi gain and infinite feedback? 😄

thats cool as hell. I just got my FM3 the other week, and its been a lot of fun. This is a great trick for sure- can see a lot of use for this. Is the pitch follower controller expensive to cpu? Im just brainstorming here, is using this technique conducive to adding a slight bit of volume boost (thinking a seamless rhythm to lead patch, single scene no need to switch or whatever). If so would you add that to the amp level? Just a couple of db pump
@@implayingsomebass4753 I found it using the editor. When you open the Edit Modifier for the Input trim, for instance, you can select Pitch (Axe 3 is Pitch Follower) in the source list. Axe 2 is a bit different and it doesn't have attack and release controls, but you can tweak this using Damping control.
Very cool Leon :) I think this is great but I would like it to do the opposite - my lower strings are quite lower volume wise than my high strings - does that make sense ? need to figure out doing the opposite

Running a square wave out into an “in” to trigger ADSRs on demand. 🪄

I use envelope as a controller for chorus. As I roll my volume down or pick lighter for cleaner sounds, chorus is automatically blended in.

That’s a “system seller” feature right there - Fractal should definitely be promoting that functionality in their marketing.
