- Video of me getting a perfect score on the bonus level 5-9, "Kamek's Revenge", of the SNES version of Yoshi's Island. In addition to the perfect score I took no damage and got all the regular coins. Again, this was NOT done with save-state, it represents one continuous play-through of the level. Yes it was hard as hell and took a lot of tries, but I dare you to find a better video of this level anywhere online!

This level is going to get me admitted to a mental asylum.
And then the very next attempt I 100% it!
The athletic theme prevents you from going insane.
What a challenge this was to master it 100% Took me probably 100/150 tries😆

I feel your pain. There's really no way to do this level beyond simple repetition until you've basically got every jump memorized. Keep at it!
I nearly peeked my mental insanity last year, after beating this level 100%. In one of my attempts: I was CENTIMETERS AWAY, from hitting the yoshi block at the end...and my Helicopter ran out. 😣
I would like to add that I was playing the GBA version of the game
I think this level was designed to strip you of your dignity before you get to world 6. I only got it done because of this video, thank you!
This gotdamn level! I could never beat it. I was good up to the 1:42 point. You also have to know how to do the slightest jump at certain points. _The Impossible Maze_ was a doozy as well.
at the time of writing this i have died over 100 times.
Only 6 of these deaths was by accident the rest were having to kill myself because i missed something during the ski part. (and restart at the middle ring)

Great video! This as the final level that I still had to get 100 on, and I was getting sick of trying to find the best way to do the helicopter part. After watching this video, I beat it 100 within 2 tries.

I can live years on the happiness from making 100% on this course. It took me hundreds of tries and several days and quite a few mental brake downs haha. But I did it!
Good to read that i wasn't the only one with so much trouble on this course. For me it was always hard to get the 2nd flower. It looks so easy😉 And ofcourse the helicopter-part drove me insane.

This is where the Rewind feature on Switch is essential. But even with it, this level is still a pain.
Got my hands on a SNES Classic and was able to play this game after who knows how many years. I can’t believe I ever 100%ed Kamek’s Revenge, nevermind avoiding any damage and retrieving all coins. After losing 60 lives to the ski slopes on this level, I broke down and used a suspend point to make it easier on myself- I bought the SNES Classic for the nostalgia, not the challenge. ;)
Oh, and Emily, your illustrations are tremendous. Did you study illustration academically at all? Or was it simply a self-taught discipline to augment your bachcelor’s degree? I’m interested in the path you took, as I myself studied science (I never officially specialized, but the majority of my studies were in Biology also), and planned to go into biomedical communications/scientific illustration.
Your book seems really interesting and I hope to track down a copy of it, as the conundrum you and the other authors tackle within is something that intrigues me as a person of faith and science.

Damn I have done every level so far without having to use a save state, but this one made me do it. That's why it's better to have the cartridge. Can't use what you don't have.
Oh god, this level made me cry trying to get 100% on (actual cartridge, too...). It was the last one that I managed to 100%.
It's because this game didn't betray me well. Extra 3 and 5 must have different songs along with Extra 1 and 6, because of athletic song in World 9's levels of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Waaayyy back in 2005 i completely perfected yoshi with a 100 for every single damn shit it had to offer.
Tbh this level wasn't that bad, monkey madness on the other had was pain.
I hope that the Tv series The Mandalorian is similar to Yoshi's Island because i identified Ezra and Sabine as Yoshi and his people, little 4 years old Ben as Baby Mario and Moff Gideon as Kamek 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
