  • Hello lovers!!! It's the way that this reaction is so overdue, but I'm a busy gal! I have things to do! But I'm actually glad I waited to watch, so I wasn't necessarily swayed by the vast majority who acted like this movie was literal shit lol. (maybe it is, maybe it's not...?? we'll just have to see!!) If anything, the aesthetics of this film made up for quite literally everything.
If you would've just gotten a job, instead of doing all of this, give this video a like, respectfully comment your thoughts, and as always, SUBSCRIBE!! Or don't. I can't make you. :)

One of the interviews that Olivia did leading up to its release that got the most amount of attention was the one where she spoke about how often times the focus of pleasure for sex scenes in movies is on men. Which is a completely valid complaint. So she wanted to show women experience pleasure. But once people saw the movie they were dumbfounded by her choice with this. Because conceptually this is one of the worst movies to do that with. The women during these sex scenes aren't consenting. They're being raped. It makes sense that Florence was really annoyed having to answer questions about the oral sex scene that was used during one of the trailers. The marketing for this movie was very bad once you see what's actually in it.

Yeah I think the overall marketing was bad for those scenes specifically, but I definitely think they're supposed to be in there. They're intentionally used to show how this world is 'perfect' for the outside viewer, specifically for the women living there. The weather is perfect, they don't have to work, they get to hang with their friends by the pool every day, and when it comes to sex, they are the focus (which is not typically how it is in the real world). In a way, women are worshipped here, further pushing the narrative that this world is desirable, and "why would you ever want to leave?". It's like a "keep them happy, they won't question you" sort of thing. That is, until we learn about the true nature of the world, and all that 'perfection' including the sex scenes purposely catered to women's pleasure is evaporated and replaced with something horrific, which is the point of the film. It goes along with that quote I mentioned, how the patriarchy is often masked by domestic bliss.

They always attack a movie when it reveals a bit too much about the world.

Often times yes, but in my opinion this movie just wasn’t that great. It somehow felt half baked, storywise I mean. All the technical aspects were spot on.

It was like _The Stepford Wives_ seen through current polarized politics. No wonder it was dismissed. And yet, there's something there. Florence Pugh is the only current actor I can imagine pulling this off, and she really does. It's an odd film, distorted by its many influences, but I think the negativity created by off set weirdness and extraneous drama went a little overboard. The film itself is decent and might one day (ironically) achieve cult status.

I watched this movie in the cinema with some friends and honestly I don't think its as bad as people say. Its not the most memorable film tho icl, the only thing I remember is being in tears of laughter during the Harry dance scene. Its just so goofy.

when you read about he backstage things going on during production yea its very bad. olivia directing and sleeping with harry while still married in front of the rest of the cast. just a toxic ass environment

oh I def know about all of that, but I'm basing my judgement purely on the movie itself, not the drama that went with making it

Yes. It was pretty bad. The whole drama during the promotion of this movie was a 100x more interesting.
