    Absolutely amazing, I'm from Seattle, just couple hours north of Portland, I have driven through this city on few occasions when driving to San Francisco, but never had the chance to actually stop and explore the city. I'm astonished at how big and urban it is, always though Portland was tiny with almost no skyline to marvel at. How wrong I was. I still prefer Seattle, but Portland is looking good as a second choice if I had to move from my city. With the cost of living going through the roof, especially on housing, (rapidly catching up to San Fran prices, I fear soon this might become a reality, and I'll be forced to move. But great job on capturing the city in all it's splendor.

    • @mogotrevo
      @mogotrevo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah Seattle is really nice but it's much more expensive than Portland not just with housing but the cost of anything else and the sales tax on it.
      In Seattle it's hard to get studios below 1k right? In portland you can still get some 2 bedrooms for 1k

      Portland and Seattle are pretty similar. They are both among the biggest US cities as well. But the two reasons I chose Portland for living is because rent is much lower, and our public transportation system (in my opinion) is better than Seattle's. But yeah, both are great cities, if you can get used to the rain.

      Portland is nowhere near the top largest US cities. Maybe in downtown area but the city is not even a million people and metro is under 3 million. It’s a hidden gem but there are WAYY better cities out there. Is there even an NFL team in Portland? What do people do here besides protest?

    I went to Reed College in Southeast, PDX. PDX is a extremely strange city, with good and bad, but one thing I cannot deny is that for its size, it has one of the best planned downtowns in the country. Walking around downtown PDX is actually immersive in the way only dense city blocks can be. If the weather didn't suck....I'd consider moving back.

    • @canyonsuede
      @canyonsuede 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Grew up next to Reed. Always thought the weather could be better(besides summer) but didn't care too much. Until I moved to a sunny climate for a few years. It's a subtle depression you overlook when it's all you've ever known. Love Portland but can't live like that again.

    • @WalksandSuch
      @WalksandSuch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@canyonsuede I loved PDX, seriously, the neighborhoods, history, architecture, nature, all beautiful. But being from Florida....I wasn't used to being forced inside so much from the weather. I have heard the same from a lot of locals, that they didn't realize how the weather was subtly affecting them until they left. But I'm telling you, if you look at similarly sized cities in the Southeast/Sunbelt like Orlando, Tampa, or Austin....compared to PDX, they're so sprawling and full of suburbia and shopping plazas...whereas I loved the many small streets and neighborhoods in PDX that had local businesses and hidden secrets.

      The weather is not as 'terrible' as people make it out to be. Oregon is just a slightly damper version of California. They have the same hot, dry summers. And when it does rain, it's usually just light drizzle.
      MANY more places in the country get more rain than Portland. There are not even decent thunderstorms in Oregon.
      The "bad" weather is just a myth.
      Go somewhere in the Great Lakes if you want to find weather that actually sucks.

    I live in Downtown Portland. It is a great city, but it rains a lot. It is strikingly similar to Seattle. Climate and scenery are the same. Portland has Mt Hood and Mt St. Helens and Seattle has Mt. Rainier. Both are fairly laid back culturally. Seattle has Amazon, Microsoft, and Starbucks, whereas Portland has Nike, Adidas, and Intel. Both are bike friendly and have many outdoor activities. However, the reason I chose to live in Portland vs Seattle is because Portland (in my opinion) has better public transportation and the cost of living is a bit lower. Both cities feel pretty much the same though. Oh yeah, and don't pay attention to the misinformed folks who cry about how Portland is run by "Antifa" anarchists. Yes, we have had a lot of rioting this year, which is very upsetting, but it has been confined to a few square blocks along SW 3rd Avenue. The rest of the city has not seen that, and Portland is not a crime-ridden city like the Donald says (I bet he's never been here).

    • @frisco21
      @frisco21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Michael Vescio...Thanks for pointing out that Trump and the media have maligned Portland with their dishonest portrayals about the city. It is not the chaotic shithole that Righties make it out to be, and it is not run by anarchists and "communists." The video truthfully shows Portland to be a beautiful, vibrant city. If I were to offer one (minor) quibble, I would say there were missed opportunities for other geographical view points --- for example, scenes of downtown from the West Hills looking east, a vista that is often overlooked in these kinds of videos.

    • @michaelvescio7934
      @michaelvescio7934 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@frisco21 I do have to say, however, that Portland is really struggling during COVID. Lots of businesses boarded up, rising number of homeless camps, and crime has gone up. But all major US cities are seeing the same thing. Until we can get the economy healthy again, Portland is going to struggle. I still love my city though. And I agree; views of Mt Hood, Mt St Helens, and maybe even the Columbia River Gorge would have been great.

    I could pick many tic marks in this vid, but at 2:38, at the extreme left directly above the "W' in Walmart on the semi truck, there is a place you can walk to at night to get the most idyllic, breathtaking view of the city lights. I use to love standing there. I would only go at night though. The magic was gone by daylight.

    Looks like major FAA rules were broken here. You can't fly over buildings. A Mavic Pro achieves maximum elevation at 6 feet for a violation (See Category 2 rules for flying over buildings). I would remove this video before FAA slaps a major fine!

    • @brianswingle9002
      @brianswingle9002 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not true. You can fly over buildings, and 107 pilots can go 400' over a structure within 400' of it as long as you don't go into controlled airspace. The potential violations in this video would be operating over people and moving vehicles in an uncontrolled environment. However, the pilot could have had a wavier to operate their aircraft in this manner.

      @@roberth.retallickr.n.8069 no, you can fly at night. Per the FAA regulations you have to have anti collision lights on, which can be easily bought on Amazon. But as long as you have those and are certified to fly at night it is 100% legal to fly at night. Depending on when you took your 107 you may need to take an extra knowledge test to be certified.
