@@AggressivelyLoving snow, whats that... it snows for a day, and is turned into mud a day later... man.. what would i give for white christmas again...
Reibekuchen on its own is just ok. You should have tried them with apple sauce. And I hope you made it back home ok. You picked literally the worst night for your visit; especially since a storm hit eastern holland pretty bad later that night.
It is absolutely amazing with self made chocolate pudding, I believe DrOetker has a really nice one that you can make and then add a bowl next to them where everybody can dunk them in. YUMMY.
Hi guys, what a fantastic video about my hometown X-mas market. It´s quite interesting to see and hear your view about it by people from other countries,. While you have filmed your video last week I was enjoying night markets in Thailand 😀. Anyhow, I very much like your approach to bring in some kind of infotainment and entertainment about our x-mas markets. I think I have to change plans for upcoming weekend and cancel home cooking and Dinner but instead going for Glühwein and Reibekuchen to my local x-mas market 3-4 KM away from the Central market in Essen-Steele.
Yay! The Christmas season has started. Thank you for waiting until the correct time to post. Kimmie was a great addition to the tour. I hope she will join you for more city tours, not just Christmas markets. Keep the wonderful tours and content coming, please.
good stuff that gluwein, i loved the video I enjoyed watching it, and who would have thought that the sister is just as beautiful as Katrina. Nate, you're just that kind of guy who makes you smile, keep them vlogs coming I love to watch them. Have a lovely day - Jordy
There is a very old black-n-white German film and it's called "Die Feuerzangenbowle", like the drink. It's a classic, but I think only older people know this film today. Sometimes this film is shown on TV at Christmas time or on New Year's Eve.
Old man from Germany here 😉. I know this movie (with the legendary actor Heinz Rühmann) and i also know the novel from Heinrich Spoerl. My grandparents had the novel in their library. Good old times... 😃
@@klausgieg Agree! Good old times and I love good old b/w movies! As a child, I loved "Heinz Rühmann" as actor. As a young woman, my mother worked in a hotel in Bonn where he was once a guest and she had to serve him. She was always very proud of that!
3 mulled wines and 1 Feuerzangenbowle! Your head starts to glow. And how do you fill yourself up the next morning? Days with Christmas markets in the snow are very rare in western Germany.
Respect for how much you can eat, wow. And also hold your liquor. These Christmas markets are big business. I wonder how much you spent that one evening. Shame you cant bring these great mugs home with you. Your sister looks like she had fun being in the vlog. Not camera shy at all! I bet back in the day you two made a lot of boys very unhappy. This was a great watch. Unbelievable how your vlogs keep getting better and better.
Loved this vlog and good to meet your sister. I just love the German Christmas markets and the gluhwein. I believe the Maastricht market is really good too. As always looking forward to any updates on any of your social platforms 🌲💖🌲💖🌲
Thanks so much!! We need to make it down to Maastricht and Valkenburg for their Xmas Markets, but can’t quite make it happen for 2024. Maybe next year!
you have to visit the Christkindel market in Nuremberg he is unique.I wish you a nice time before Christmas and when Christmas comes, a contemplative and merry Christmas
Truly miss the markets at this time of year. Sorta figure out my retirement list to visit eventually and wanted visit Germany again. Just can't make decision between October Fest times or the Christmas market times. But, based vlog, definitely looks like you guys really cold all bundle up.
17:00 maybe u eat this: Rhenish donuts are made from choux pastry and often with raisins. They are scooped out with a spoon and then baked in hot fat.[1] Rhenish donuts are not filled and are just rolled in sugar and often cinnamon. Quark balls - variant made from choux paste with quark but in some regions they have different names for it or with the same name u will get a differnet product´that depends on the region.
Looks like you guys had a good time at the Christmas Market and lots of Glühwein - and I lived for 23 years in Germany I had never the chance to go to a Christmas Market, especially not during world war 2.
Liked the video (my brother and his wife are in Germany at the moment also visiting Christmas markets). But, my wife, also named Kim and was called Kimmie as a kid and hates that name. Couldn't watch this she said! Hah!
17min20, those big balls of fried dough .. Krissmiss Kimmie needs a taste of Bossche Bollen (huge (4"?) profiteroles with cream inside and chocolate glazing on the outside).
Is Sister Kimmie spoken for? I should ask from a friend. 😁 By the way. You should try the market in Lübeck. We go there every year. Next weekend, this year.
Batteries dying and getting resurrected. Holy moly interesting. For some cameras, you can buy a "dummy battery" that is like an empty shell but it relays from camera battery contacts to a power cable outside the camera that you could connect, e.g., to a USB power brick in your coat pocket. Powerbanks typically have 5 to 10 times the juice of camera batteries. A bit of DIY, and you could fork the cable to the dummy into two connectors so you can hook up powerbank 2 (in parallel) and next take bank 1 off. Never ending story, batteries.
German price list: Glühwein (glow wine, because warm). This got pronounced as glue whine. The German u behaves like Latin/Italian/Spanish: u is pronounced as oo in English. The "umlaut" (sound diversion) on the u means a different pronunciation and the German ü is pronounced as the French/Dutch u. If you cannot find ü on your keyboard, then you can write ue instead, in German, but note that it's wine and you cannot glue with it. (ü is simply short notation for ue.)

A Christmas market WITHOUT bad weather is not a Christmas market. It is just boring because there is no real reason to drink mulled wine or stuff your stomach with warm food. It is only when it is cold and wet that the Christmas market is really fun.
Ah yes Essen in november. That classic combination of a post-industrial wasteland together with cold damp wetness. And that all in the setting of the finest examples of brutalist post -war architecture. Im sure sis from San Diego loved it. But no seriously, the Zollverein complex is really cool but other than that, not my favorite German city.

In today's standard German the verb "essen" means "to eat". So appropriate to go somewhere called Essen and eat everything.
This fits perfectly!
