There is a system in place in Shelter that if the predator is close by the music catches and you hear twigs/branches cracking from it stalking in the area. It's a subtle, no text or camera pop-up to indicate you need to stop and listen. A similar system you could do is if there is a specific audio played when danger reaches the outer limit of a den site area. These are my ideas thus far. These would affect player emotions as well between tense, fear, brave, or panic. Eagle- Crows call out an alarm to show it's been generated nearby, then we see the shadow. (Alert to look up) Cougar- All the birds/squirrels stop calling and you hear louder wind. Maybe branches snap. (Alert to stop, listen and look) Coyote- The coyotes make a warning bark, yipping? (Alert to face the challenge) Bear- You hear the distinct jaw chomping they do to indicate they are aggressive (This means the parents need to huddle the pups to the den at this dangerous chomp chomp chomp from the woodline. And attempt to chase the bear off)
Idk but the notification for a cougar attack would be cool if it were something like “you feel eyes burning in your back” or something along those lines
I do have a recomodation with the cougars. Maybe if there’s like a big log or some rocks that sits above the ground that the cougars can climb but you have to be in first person in order to see them. Sense cougars like to be above their pray before they attack. This is just a recommendation and I’m curious on what your thoughts are.

I like how you're adding more variation between different predators and their attack styles. There was a little bit of that in the old game, but overall, predator attacks usually played out much the same. Here, you'll have to develop unique strategies for each predator type, seems like, and that's going to be even more immersive and fun!!
In a similar fashion to the old 'predator' music, there could be certain soundtracks playing or bushes rustling and animal noises when a predator pops up? I know there still would have to be a visual indicator though. Maybe there could be a different amount of things to show the predators depending on difficulty? Say, easy = a big arrow (or bossbar XD) medium = some text and hard = a branch cracking and noises? The game looks amazing!! Great work, I'm looking forward to playing
I will feel SO guilty and sad when one of my sweet, little, innocent pups dies. There were people freaking out when a pup died in the old game (sometimes including me), and now the pups will be much sweeter...
Maybe a motif that “You can smell a cougar nearby!” It doesn’t give away the cougars location, but It lets you know there’s danger in a way that makes sense for the game.
I just love how you're making this so that it's like, every trick we learnt from the old version(s) is thrown away and we'll have to think of new ones - makes it much more fun and exciting rather than just having updated graphics (which are cool too though!)

Perhaps you could be alerted of a cougar or other predator by bird (more specifically corvid) alarm calls. This game is incredible, I am currently playing wolfquest 2.7 (waiting for wolfquest AE to come out on mobile; can't wait 🤗) and funnily enough today one of my pups was killed by a cougar!
Hey I was wondering if when you raise your pups to adulthood in Tower Fall, you can come back to Slough Creek with ur grown up pups to have another litter that ur pack members will help with raising. So you could slowly build up a large pack.
We would love to keep adding to the story. Maybe someday the pups can grow up completely but it will take time. Tower Fall (a whole new episode/map. DLC) will continue life with pups but they still won't be fully grown.

i have an idea: maybe when a predator first appears, and you look at it for the first time, it'll be outlined in white (somewhat similar to the effect spectral arrows have in minecraft) for a few seconds, and then the outline will fade there'd have to be a way for the game to detect that the player is facing the predator, but that was just a general idea for a possible alert system really love you guys' work and how much passion you put into the game; i've always wanted to develop games and your work inspired me to look into that dream again (:
I’d really love it if we were able to turn these tooltips and hints off for a more uninterrupted and immersive gameplay experience, especially when you, after a few times, know exactly what to do. Of course, the missions ones can stay as I’d imagine their fairly important but I don’t need the game telling me how to find a mate or notify me about a predator attack every single time. Those interruptions were a hassle in the old game and are in this one as well so I hope this will be an option one day.
I have a suggestion for these cougar attacks! So... say we have three main predator tracks, Brute predators (wolves and bears), Ambush predators (cougars) and the eagles! So, the player will learn to identify each undertone track (each track for the individual predator types play's differently.) Cougar track- Causes the other music to go quieter/loose some of it's bulk. And the cougar track is one or two pieces that progress UNDER the main track- which gets louder as the pups go closer to the cougar. This would be an anxiety inducing track- perhaps even some creepy minor stuff. Brute track- Make it like the regular "bear nearby/wolf nearby" track on amethyst, except it's tweaked to be louder and feel more desperate. This track should try to help with an adrenaline rush! Eagle track- Picture this.. the normal music fades out when an eagle has its eyes on a pup. It's quiet for a bit- and then boom! eagle track! this one should be fast, stressful, and crazy. the music should sound like- "oh my god! oh my god where is it!?"
Well, a wolf will smell if another predator is nearby. So you probably could make a popup window with the notification "A cougar(whatever predator) approaches".

And if you build your den too close to a cougar den then the mother might attack or come after the pups more often (idk cougar behavior). As a suggestion, maybe you could make the cougar growl, or have some twigs snapping so that the player can tell the cougar is there? They would still need to look for the cougar that way, although if it's supposed to be stealthy, this might not fit :/
Whew...pup sitting man. Much easier and harder at the same time when you have a mate to assist you. One time, when a cougar attacked, I woofed all my pups into the den, then I saw one of my pups running towards the den unusually fast (I’m unsure which pup, I didn’t have the time to read the name tag, but it was a red pup so I assume it was my pup Onyx or my pup Ruby. Anyways). I glance over and see a cougar dashing at my pup. I didn’t even have time to react. Luckily, my mate chased it off before it could grab my pup. Still doesn’t make me less annoyed when she regurgitates food for a pup far away from the den, attracting all the other pups so I have to pick them up one by one...
It'd be great to have an option in settings to turn off those notifications, for more realism feel and kinda like a harder gameplay version. I was gonna suggest it be a part of the accurate mode, but I think it'd be better for a separated option just in case people want notifications popping up or don't.
Of all the predators in the game, its the stranger wolves that "scare" me the most... when im playing late at night and the mate growls, it startles me for a second until i realize its him/her. I thought the new bears would scare me the most!!

I have a recommendation. you should add another level to the new game and that level would be the pregnancy level. It would be fun to experience the challenges that parenthood brings for animals. You would have a timer in the corner of the screen that told you how long it would be until your pups are born. Just a suggestion to make the game more realistic
If you guys are having trouble with an alert system for predators that's not intrusive then I think you should look at a really old animal planet game called I Predator after the show. The antelope and cheetah one was my favorite. The alert system for predators was a small red icon above the animal that rotated wherever the predator was and got bigger when it got closer. Not trying to tell you how to do your jobs at all I just thought you could take a peek at other animal sims and see how they do it. Maybe instead of a bigger icon you can make it fade when you're further away from the predator and make it more solid as it grows closer!
I wonder if you could use scent mode somehow - is that how a wolf would most likely become aware that there's a cougar nearby? Or perhaps a music/sound effect cue that there's a predator smell
One thing that drove me insane with wolf quest 2 with the cougars, was that they were almost impossible to actually catch to chase off, and if you didnt get the few bites on it for it to run away, it always came straight back every single time, and you were never able to catch it and get rid of it. I hope this is fixed in this game.
Idea! What if when a cougar is hunting a pup you get this notification : You have a feeling something is watching you or You have a feeling something is hunting your pups
That would be really cool on one hand, but on the other hand it might make gameplay to easy if you got the notification and knew what it meant everytime so you would know to look for it. Then it might take away the element of surprise.

There are technical reasons why cougars are not in trees or on boulders etc. but you are right, they love high places.

I am genuinely impressed a joke of a game from like 20 years ago is still getting updates and is an actually decent product now.

You can't intervene once a predator has a pup. Best to be alert and prevent harm.

My favorite way to be alerted of enemies is through song! Peaceful music going to some ominous music will definitely give some kind of warning!

I was concerned about cougars most. In the end its going to be the wolves that we gonna hate more in this episode o.o

Maybe there should be a notification that there's a cougar near by... Unless your on the accurate game mode.

This game is a very well put together game, it gives you what it's like to be a wolf inYellowStone, Slough Creek and the home of Floppy, LostRiver. This game is coming along and I can't wait till it's done completely keep up the good work and I can't wait to see more! 🖤🐺

As a suggestion, maybe you could make the cougar growl, or have some twigs snapping so that the player can tell the cougar is there? They would still need to look for the cougar that way, although if it's supposed to be stealthy, this might not fit :/

Whew...pup sitting man. Much easier and harder at the same time when you have a mate to assist you. One time, when a cougar attacked, I woofed all my pups into the den, then I saw one of my pups running towards the den unusually fast (I’m unsure which pup, I didn’t have the time to read the name tag, but it was a red pup so I assume it was my pup Onyx or my pup Ruby. Anyways). I glance over and see a cougar dashing at my pup. I didn’t even have time to react. Luckily, my mate chased it off before it could grab my pup. Still doesn’t make me less annoyed when she regurgitates food for a pup far away from the den, attracting all the other pups so I have to pick them up one by one...
At least the cougars won’t be as much of a problem if they don’t come, it’s the bears I’m really scared of, they’re so tough and strong now
It'd be great to have an option in settings to turn off those notifications, for more realism feel and kinda like a harder gameplay version. I was gonna suggest it be a part of the accurate mode, but I think it'd be better for a separated option just in case people want notifications popping up or don't.
Of all the predators in the game, its the stranger wolves that "scare" me the most... when im playing late at night and the mate growls, it startles me for a second until i realize its him/her. I thought the new bears would scare me the most!!
Maybe for the predator alarm, you could do......like a pup yelps in fear and looks at the predator?
When your watching another interesting video and decide this is more important XD besides I can just go back to the other video when I'm done!

The game's gonna be as fun as 2.7 even better actually, it'll be fun and realistic to chase off predators like this. Keep up the good work!
I have a recommendation. you should add another level to the new game and that level would be the pregnancy level. It would be fun to experience the challenges that parenthood brings for animals. You would have a timer in the corner of the screen that told you how long it would be until your pups are born. Just a suggestion to make the game more realistic

If you guys are having trouble with an alert system for predators that's not intrusive then I think you should look at a really old animal planet game called I Predator after the show.
The antelope and cheetah one was my favorite. The alert system for predators was a small red icon above the animal that rotated wherever the predator was and got bigger when it got closer.
Not trying to tell you how to do your jobs at all I just thought you could take a peek at other animal sims and see how they do it. Maybe instead of a bigger icon you can make it fade when you're further away from the predator and make it more solid as it grows closer!

I wonder if you could use scent mode somehow - is that how a wolf would most likely become aware that there's a cougar nearby? Or perhaps a music/sound effect cue that there's a predator smell
One thing that drove me insane with wolf quest 2 with the cougars, was that they were almost impossible to actually catch to chase off, and if you didnt get the few bites on it for it to run away, it always came straight back every single time, and you were never able to catch it and get rid of it. I hope this is fixed in this game.

Idea! What if when a cougar is hunting a pup you get this notification :

or
You have a feeling something is hunting your pups
That's a really cool idea!
That would be really cool on one hand, but on the other hand it might make gameplay to easy if you got the notification and knew what it meant everytime so you would know to look for it. Then it might take away the element of surprise.

I still wonder if Wolfquest will make the cougars unpredictable, and if eagle could get some of the same notifacations as in something is watching, since the eagle would want the element of suprise to land itself a meal. And if there was some shared notifications it might make you become as stressed as a real wolf parent XD

You should be able to smell if the cougar is around. So you have to check the sent markers for them.
I love that the predators are now a way bigger threat and it doesnt fully alerr that they are there! Now my question is will predators be a threat when your out hunting or etc away from the den?

1) Yes there will be fawns hiding in the grass

There will be young ungulates in SC and more rendezvous sites. Someday we would love to add babies for more predators.

For the notifications when a cougar comes near your den, maybe it’s a change of music or a notification saying a predator near by so you don’t know what animal it is until you ether go into sent view and smell it or run up to where it is to see it but you also sometimes have to go in sent view to find it?
