Even though Thelma is dubbed she brings all of her charms to this lovely song, and it's an all-too-brief highlight in the movie.

Her death certainly is one of H'wood's great unsolved mysteries. What a talent--taken from us way too soon. Why did the producers take her segments out of the film?

I’ve heard that if they left all of her segments in the film, it wouldn’t have been complete. It wouldn’t have made any sense, because there were additional shots needed to complete her characters storylines in the film. But I do agree more of her would be better! Then use a stand in as MGM did in Saratoga, with Jean Harlow. But as an editor you’d have to see what works. As well as hiring the “stand in” too. Money. Hal Roach was an incredibly cheap man.

Well, that breaks my heart. She was a swell dame. I particularly liked her work with Zasu Pitts.

It was the mob, though I think it was an accident and they didn't mean her to die,but she was getting threatening letters and she was beaten up shortly before she died

Thelma, the "Ice-Cream Blonde", as a brunette. Her singing is, of course, dubbed. Many feature comedies, even slapstick material, had romantic musical interludes, which, if the songs were good enough, helped with the pacing. Of course, "The Bohemian Girl" was originally an opera anyway.

Thank you for this. I couldn't find her in the movie when I watched it. I didn't realize she would not be blonde. It is a shame they did not use all the material she shot. There are so many tragic early deaths in Hollywood - Normand, Harlow, Lombard, and Monroe to name a few.

The police and courts were corrupt at the time; her death has never been solved. Thelma's personal life was complicated. Did business partner Roland West do her in? Her violent ex-husband, Pat DiCicco, who had mob ties? Someone who remains nameless? Or, maybe most probable of all, did Thelma, after a long night of drinking, simply climb the steps to her apartment, find she was locked out, go to her car and start it to get warm, falling asleep and never waking up? Who knows?

Thank you for presenting Thelma Todd's last film appearance in The Bohemian Girl. How sad this wonderful comedic talent left us so young at 29. All controversy aside, I really loved her films with Laurel and Hardy. And the "ice cream" blonde persona she left with moviegoers. School teacher-turned pageant winner-turned Hollywood star. R.I.P.

Thelma Todd became a Laurel and Hardy stalwart as the Roach 'studio blonde' - replacing Jean Harlow who left, having her career launched after appearing in a number of L&H comedy movies. Beautiful Thelma, in her 30's, was murdered one night after a party - and no-one was ever convicted for it. Read all about this, who else died young and other fascinating background stories, in the two NEW books "ARTHUR AND NORVELLE: THE FORGOTTEN AND REAL LEGEND OF LAUREL AND HARDY", just out, on Amazon

She owned a restaurant and wouldn't allow the mob to have gambling there. Possibly she pissed off the wrong guy.

Thelma Todd apparently didn’t think about the effects of carbon monoxide in a closed garage. A beautiful young talent whose life was cut far too short. She had a real flair for comedy. Watch her in an early Laurel and Hardy talkie “Unaccustomed As We Are” playing Hardy’s neighbor Mrs. Kennedy.

1:39 It is so heartbreakingly obvious that Thelma Todd's image had been rear-projected for this scene.

Thelma Todd was not a singer, so undoubtedly she was dubbed by some ghost singer.
