I learned that an assonance repeats the same vowel in the word either in the beginning of the word or in the middle of the word as long as it "[expressed] a pattern" as you stated in the video. Please help, thank you!

E.g. The bat, map and cap are are objects. Wouldn't that be an example of assonance

This is the problem in teaching language arts. Just like definitions for the same word may be slightly different depending upon the dictionary used. I alliteration is typically taught as repeating the consonant SOUND at the beginning of words, but assonance is the repetition of vowel SOUNDS at the beginning OR within the words that do not rhyme. Consonance (not mentioned in the video) is the repetition of consonant SOUNDS WITHIN the words, that do not rhyme. Notice that there really isn't a term specifically for the repetition of vowel sounds at the beginning of words unless you use assonance. In some definitions, you will find that alliteration will include vowel sounds at the beginning.

Assonance is the when the internal vowel sound is the same. Ex. High in the sky. Alliteration is when the beginning sound repeats.

Rosie & David, I love your work, but this is NOT your best work. 😢 Your definition of alliteration is weakly worded.
Alliteration: when a series of words all start with the same consonant SOUND.
Bad example: Robert park swam swiftly, surely, and straight ahead. “Surely” starts with the “sh” sound.
Good example: The cute kangaroo quickly kicked the covers clear. Many words here start with different letters, but the same “k” sound.
