Guys, be sure to stick around for the aftercredit scene, a heartfelt tribute to our Uncle Tony 😢
It has come to my attention that Philip Brumley, the lawyer interviewed in this Broadcast, was actually sanctioned by the state of Montana for "his intentional and sustained efforts to deceive the courts." Brumley was defending Watchtower with some CSA cases, he lied, and was fined 154,000 US Dollars. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
This is the possible reason why this Broadcast was deleted. Or maybe Watchtower wanted to kill two birds with one stone, by also deleting Tony Morris' talk in the process. So much for God's one true religion, huh?
Here's a more complete story on the disgraced lawyer: avoidjw.org/news/philip-brumley-sustained-effort-to-deceive/

It's such a strange thing for JWs to expect others to open their minds to what they believe, but then promote not attending college because of the possibility of learning about what others may believe.
If your faith and your "truth" are so fragile that speaking to others who believe otherwise could that easily make you think your wrong about everything related to the religion: then WHY would you ever believe in it in the first place???

    • @adamantiumbullet9215
      @adamantiumbullet9215 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

As is typical for Watchtower, what it advises for other people in other religions does NOT apply to JWs:
"...are you willing to put your religion through such a test? There is nothing to fear, because if you have the right religion you can only be reassured by the examination." w58 5/1, p.261
“We need to examine, not only what we personally believe, but also what is taught by any religious organizations with which we may be associated. Are its teachings in full harmony with God’s Word, or are they based on the traditions of men? If we are lovers of the truth, *there is nothing to fear from such an examination."* Truth book, p. 13

The fundie church community I was part of (which may have been a cult as well but not as intense as JWs thankfully) had many people with that mentality that I knew and was close to but at least we weren’t discouraged from higher education, I suppose Tony’s kind might be right to fear higher education and evolution because in my case those were some of the things that ultimately killed my faith in conservative and mainstream Christianity as a whole.

Higher education is one of the things that helped me break out of my fundamentalist church which may have been a cult as well, I became radicalized into that sort of worldview in high school but my denomination never discouraged college or the like so it was through that I started to realize that what that fundie church taught didn’t exactly align with the reality of the outside world (including the evolution bit, I knew people who really believed the world was only 6,000 years old).
So I imagine that cases like mine is exactly why more controlling groups like JWs fear higher education, it could also be with a combination of the anti-intellectualism found in some parts of American society in particular.

But now with his degrees he earned about 4 years ago now I’ve seen that he is doing so much better now and even uses that money he gets to help support me and mother. In universities you learn critical thinking and are around people who may not think or believe like you. For as much as the gb claims all worldly people are evil if you go to school and see that no not all people are evil then you question other tenets and beliefs and you may just leave that faith.

When he mentioned the horror of acceptance of evolution I had a mega-cringe. I became a JW at a young age in the 70s. I stopped studying evolution and accepted the bible version of history. I abandoned any thought of higher education thinking it was a waste of time. So I dedicated my life to the dreary career of the preaching work. When I finally left the org at the beginning of the 21st century, I have been studying all sorts of science and history as well as analyzing the bible as a skeptic. No longer do I wonder why prayer almost never seems to work, nor am I tormented by guilt. I don't need to worry about running into JWs I know, since I moved to another city. when I meet them here I enjoy debating them with rationality and my knowledge of science and history which they nothing about.

@dylanwilliams2202 Oh buddy! You must be younger. SWK and ETB very, very much discouraged women from doing anything except being a stay at home mother. SWK wrote a book called "Marriage" that specifically says that divorces are caused by women working outside the home. Imagine my fear as a young woman thinking that if I wanted to be something other than a stay at home mom that I'd be setting myself up for a divorce and it would be all my fault!
I'm happy to provide a boatload of quotes from GAs, including presidents of the church, from the 1980s and 1990s that drive this point home. I'll be honest, I do not hear that sort of rhetoric anymore. A lot of younger people have never heard those things from the pulpit or church manuals and don't realize that they were the predominant line if thinking in the not so distant past.

There’s a flock of them, all asking folks if they can pray for them, already ensnaring a (presumed) Christian couple. They were giving JW, and as I’m unpacking my boot, he asks if he can pray for me. Focused on my current activity, and without flinching, I let out a loud “absolutely not”, and I can feel every single JW rear their head in fright. The guy scuttled off too fast for me to say “I’m so sorry, that was terribly abrupt of me, but thank you for the offer” 😭 I still feel very guilty about that…
Here in South Africa, it seems there is an increasing interest to spread the “gospel” of JW.

There were two women standing there, we made eye contact for a split second and they called me over, I felt bad, so I listened to the whole, like what 20 minute talk? Then at the end they asked me if I wanted to take a pamphlet home, and when I told them I personally wasn't religious but my parents are SUPER Catholic, and SUPER not ok with other religious doctrines like Watchtowers in their home, they got pissed 😂. And went off into another 20 minute rant about how, my parents have been led astray by false religion and how I'm worse because I dont belive in any religion.
All the while I just stood there super awkwardly as these two middle aged women screamed at a 17 year old for wasting their time, in the middle of a crowded strip. They then asked me "I bet you also belive in abortion, don't you?" Like it was a bad thing. 💀
After they called me a murderer, I just left. The saddest part, I've had similar reactions from people at my parents church. 😂 This is not just a JW thing, people like this exist in every religion.

When you graduate, employers will not hire you because you don't have 5 years of experience; they will try to scam you into working for free to avoid paying worker's compensation insurance. I am a 2-time college graduate, and I work at a grocery store pushing shopping carts inside the store and work alongside uneducated people making the same amount of money.
