I'm from the lower end of the Buffalo River and watching this all the way from South Korea is making me miss it lol. The Buffalo River is the one thing I always tell people I meet in the Army to go do when they get a chance. Everyone always thinks Arkansas is a boring flatland of crop fields until I show them where I'm from. Thank you for this!
Fun floating video, Kelly! We just kayaked 125 miles of the mighty Buffalo a week and a half ago- from Ponca to the White River. We were on the river 7 days/ 6 nights. It was amazing and yes, the millions of cicadas were a trip- sounded like rain sticks everywhere. Saw an elk plunge across the river in front of us! Lots of snakes, like you said! The Buffalo is one of our favorite places on earth, too!! Thank you for sharing!
Camping has gotten so popular, I've found if you don't have reservations you need to have several options and backup plans, and early bird most definitely gets the worm, beautiful paddle and footage! It's great to see everyone getting out and enjoying our amazing country!
Awesome video Kelly! My how things have changed, my wife and I did a 5 day canoe trip in 89 all the way down past the confluence with the White river and never saw a soul. It was a trip I'll never forget! Thanks for bringing back that memory! TACKLE
I can't get over the amount of people there! We're probably a bit spoiled here in Australia with the small population, but even on holiday long weekends you'd never see that kind of crowd at a river.
@@Ja50nkAt No, that's only an issue in the Northern parts of the country, they're well signposted for the tourists. The rest of the country is relatively safe, with only the occasional snake to watch out for.
I love watching you walk the trails and swim in the ocean I have your videos running in the background about the last month. I love the videos thank you soo much much love from Washington DC
I remember I found your channel because I was looking for videos on the BRT and if I remember you did it as a shakedown for the AT so I just kept watching... That really got me into hiking YT channels. I love going down to the BR we go several times a year for everything, hiking floating backpacking, etc...
The buffalo outdoor center also has a mountain bike shuttle service. For $20 a day per person they will take you to the top of the mountain and you ride down some awesome trails, ending at the outdoor center. It’s an awesome area, don’t forget to check out the elk heard.
I love your channel. I just came across it last week under my recommended videos feed. You are a female version of Josh Gates from the Travel channel's Expedition Unknown. One of my favorite shows. Except, you're more adventurous and outdoorsy. I love following you on your expeditions. You have helped me a lot with my anxiety. Watching your channel has inspired me to get out there and explore again. You've really helped me concur my fears and now I'm motivated to just live my life freely. Thanks for sharing your amazing travels. Best female explorer and travel channel ever! ❤
This is my backyard. I live above Boxley Valley and hike in the area every single day (unless there is water and floating is possible). It seems you chose one of the most busy days! Cannot believe it can be an enjoyable experience with so many people around.
Your last few videos have convinced me that a trip to explore Arkansas is in order. I’m thinking I may grow to love your state as much as you love our Florida. Thanks for sharing and Happy Trails!!!!!
Love the camera mount on the kayak. Had no idea the Buffalo was that crowded. I would love to float it over a couple days but I would want to do it in the off season
Absolutely beautiful place to shoot a kayaking video, and on a gorgeous day nonetheless! Love the vlog, feels like I'll have to get to the Buffalo National River myself someday. And I love those cicadas, we had the 17 year ones out up in my region three summers ago now, so I know what that sound is like up close and personal too!
I don't think Tristan minded being fired as cameraman. 😂 Holy boat traffic! The Saco River in Maine gets like that too. Kayaks totally rock on the river. 😮--> 17:51 It was like you were somewhere in Yosemite! Just heavenly. So sorry you couldn't camp. ☹️ It used to be 1st come 1st serve in and around The Whites and in Maine, which gave us locals a leg up over tourists. Now it's all online reservations which get devoured fast. S'all good, we just have to be creative. Awesome video 9L, thank you so much. ✌️
Thanks for sharing this it brought back good memories. I camp and kayak with a group of old college friends and we did a two day one night on the Buffalo River several years ago in June. One of the best paddles ever and the scenery was stunning and yes we did all flip at least once!
Is that background noise cicadas? Yes! Kinda crowded… reminds me of how folks literally wait in line to tube some spring runs in FL… so beautiful. Maybe consider using a Black Oak Arkansas tune sometime… like “Moonshine Sonata” which is an instrumental… another fun & informative video. Thanks!
That is a beautiful river, Kelly! I've always wanted to do the Buffalo and it's on my bucket list but haven't made it there yet. The hike was incredible with that waterfall and the bluffs were amazing. Thanks for the video, hope to make it someday. geek
I've floated the Ouachita, Mulberry and Caddo rivers but the Buffalo is definitely on the top of my floating bucket list...we have an embarrassment of riches here in Arkansas, I'm glad you're showing the world what's up!
YAY!!! You even went to Kyle's landing to do it! That's the perfect place to do it. They bring you back after you float for several miles. I floated halfway down the river just in the water without a canoe haha! Just back floated for miles and caught up to my buddies in the canoe later. The water is always super clear and aside from some of the rapid areas it's pretty comfy to float even on an inner tube in many spots.
Awesome!! Great video, I so love the Buffalo area 😀 My 4 day solo Buffalo canoe trip was probably the neatest thing I`ve done, from Ponca to Woolum - Had a elk come visit my tent at dark
even back in the day Buffalo would get crowded on days like those. "still worth it everyone was having a great time"! In many other parks in the country when its crowded people get grumpy but never here (unless it's you). In the Ozarks you have to watch water levels and rain forecast. You brought me back to many beautiful floats. Medium float in mid-high level water try Buffalo as well as the Mulberry "canoe if you are in for a swim". If you are really wanting a challenge and fun float "in a canoe if you are bad ass enough" try Devils Den State Park from walk bridge to near Ft. Smith. "It is very water sensitive but the remoteness is great. Never saw anyone on that float! Be carful there are a couple of challenging waterfalls. You don't want to go under any rock bluff overhangs in the water! Be safe.... last time I did that one there was ice on the side of the creek. Because of me ! ...... sadly my brother and I dumped within 50ft of launch (never forgave me). I saw a moccasin on a debris log and it was like 50deg outside. Please be safe on the more remote, quieter days, and high water. In most Arkansas floats I recommend 2 people in a canoe instead of 1 or 2 person kayaking. Just my opinion there is way more team fun and challenges when canoeing. Bonus you have to recover all your stuff every time you dump. Always good having some friendly down streamers to retrieve your beer. out!
I learned about this river only a few weeks ago and have added it to my list of places to paddle and watching TH-cam videos on it, and I now I see that you’ve also done a video on it. :) It’s about 10 hours away to Kyle’s landing from where I am in Kentucky.
Those rock bluffs are beautiful along the river and I never seen a guy who can climb a bluff wall. I need to get back into river floating this year and those chimneys could possibly date back to the late 1800’s or early 1900’s.
Omg this brings back memories of my thru hike on the Buffalo River Trail! Most beautiful place! I agree though, the drive in and out of Kyle’s Landing is definitely not for the faint of heart 😂
Hey Kelly, I enjoyed your trip down the Buffalo River. This river is on my radar, but for a Trout fishing/camping trip. I saw Curt Gowdy on a TV series back in the mid 1960 fish that river.
I think my 1st video i saw of you was when we were planning a vaca to Arkansas in 2021 and i believe it was Kayaking the Buffalo River. Been subscribed since!
Beautiful place to adventure in, only drawback for me personally, way toooooooo crowded. But still gorgeous none the less. Thanks for another fun adventure ❤
Perch Family Cabin looks down over Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. My best bud owns it. Check it out if you're ever wanting to stay down there. Its an amazing place and Horseshoe Canyon is beautiful to see from above.
Is that background noise cicadas? Kinda crowded… reminds me of how folks literally wait in line to tube some spring runs in FL. Beats the mall though… is the Buffalo spring-fed? It’s beautiful!
I love Arkansas! ❤We float the Illinois river here in Oklahoma. I have some fun and wild story about that place haha. I survived them all. You can always tell when the alcohol hits on the river. It’s normally about mile 2-3 and people start twerking, flipping and groups start merging together. 😂
Heck yea! We tried to get a spot out there this weekend but it was all booked! But we did end up reserving a campsite at White Rock Mountain and floating the Mulberry river. Arkansas is a beautiful place
@kellyhays23 It really was! We're gonna do the Buffalo hopefully next year. It was actually one of your videos from way back when you and friends were on the Buffalo that made us want to travel Arkansas! Thanks for the content!
Actually working on planing a short packrafting trip on the Buffalo. Park at a trailhead near river access. Hike part of the Buffalo River trail. Float back down to my car.
... See what happens over covid time ,, everybody in the area watched that Kelly girl and realized that life really can be an adventure ... Bummer on not finding a campsite ,, but a good video to share ... Stay Safe ...
I think you would be well served by a high pressure, drop-stitch construction inflatable kayak. It would be considerably easier to transport and integrate into your van life.
Arkansas should hire you to do videos showing what the state has to offer.I had no idea, beautiful hiking and rivers to explore.
We are the natural state!

Don’t Australian rivers contain a lot more animals that can kill you?? 😂
Isn't that because of the hoards of crocodiles in the rivers?🤣🤣🤣

Thank you for showing us the beauty of Arkansas. This looked like a fun trip and makes me want to try kayaking.
I can tell you're having an amazing time. Love it.
I don't know what I thought Arkansas looked like, but it wasn't like that! Beautiful!!
The views from the water was awesome Kelly. Looks like everyone is having fun. Thanks for taking us along and love your videos.
Awesome views on that river and the weather looks perfect!!
Another awesome video shot and narrated by the beautiful Kelly Hays. 👍🏻😊

The setup in your van is awesome!!
That's so cool everyone's so friendly I hope everyone like southern California ppl
One of our favorite rivers for sure! Hate that you could not find a place to camp.
Me too 😢
Beautiful landscape! Thanks for taking us along. Hope you are doing well and getting ready for the big hike. Stay awesome.

Awesome stretch of river...I floated and filmed that stretch a couple years ago...great video! Thanks for sharing!
What a beautiful place. Makes me wish I was there.
Coming from Australia, that is a beautiful river with stunning scenery 🙏👌
Instead of BOC use Lost Valley Canoe in Ponca. Support small family run operation. They are also in Ponca, just a bit further than BOC.

Cool video. I was in Ponca last weekend. I was surprised how low the water was at Steel Creek. The roar of those bugs!
The videos you post is the reason I chose to come explore Arkansas currently on the buffalo river right now don’t know when I’ll leave this state
