This is such a stupid take that I can’t stop laughing and let me tell you why.
You’re annoyed that the Princess plot came out of nowhere in a story where in the first three seasons, the characters had never stepped outside their island and outsiders, minus the Worrior candidates and Marlayan soldiers, had never come in since the walls were made. AOT is a story where you find things out with the characters. I mean, a great percentage of the viewers didn’t even know that people were outside until the last three episodes of season 3 with those books in the basement.
Since you hate it so much, tell me who and how you wanted the reveal to have been made? I mean, Nobody in the island knew what it meant.
Just say you don’t like the character and stop trying to give a contrived reason. Also, not all characters need to have a Jean and Reiner level of character development for them to be good or not. Mikasa’s character arc was going from someone who would protect Eren from any and everything to being willing to kill him for the sake of others which is why that whole lie about the Ackerman bloodline and servitude was so believable.
She started as a physically strong character so her growth was more emotional.
      Honestly a massive L take

When Eren said she's just a dumb slave it did not surprise me at all because she is, in fact, just a slave to the main character. Now of course this was revealed to be one of Eren's little lies but... It's the truth 🤣

There was a seen in season 4 where Eren told Mikasa that her undying loyalty was an effect of her being of Akerman decent, if this was true it could have possibly saved her character entirely.

  • @lanzer22
    @lanzer22 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Mikasa and Levi are the same breed of characters. One was saved at childhood, one was not. The Ackerman who found someone to be loyal to, became a lapdog, someone their blood line was destined to do. The one without a master became his own man, and forged his own path and friendships. It’s a clear contrast and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that there are only two Ackerman in the survey corps to play this off.
I have no clue how I would write Mikasa differently while Levi already dove so much into their bloodline. But hey they don’t pay me the big bucks :)

@TheDon266 That @diamond7099 fanboy I spoke to even thinks that Levi is far worse written than Mikasa. At least Levi thinks things logically ( excluding the thunderspear) and knows what side his bread is buttered. He knows a war criminal when he sees one and would never forgive their actions. His emotions towards Zeke are way, way more justified than Mikasa's towards Eren.

Yknow I don’t necessarily disagree with you but at the same time, I don’t think she’s really a bad character. She’s simple and one note yeah, most of the time just a stoic badass, but I think that was done very intentionally. This shows themes of freedom and slavery play into this I think, since Eren freed her when they were kids, but all the while after that she’s been a slave to Eren for loving him too much. It’s like showing how strong bonds can restrict our freedom, which leads into Eren using this to convince her that the Ackerman blood was the reason she’s so subservient to him. Even despite this, it’s still ok to have a stoic badass take center stage just for animation prowess so I don’t think she’s bad just not that deep.

You know.... valid. As a Mikasa fan, I kind of 100% agree with you. I feel like in session 1, she was kind of the character that pushed the "The world is cruel and unforgiving... Deal with it and keep fighting" message. And it hit really well, especially when Eren needed to pull himself together to fight Annie
She genuinely felt more interesting because she told off Eren and wasn't afraid to give him her brutally honest opinion while still being caring. And I feel like past session 1, she kind of just... stopped having that energy. It was almost a little weird how by session 4, she was taking all the verbal abuse from Eren that she did, and never really fought back.
I like were she started as a character, but it just feels like it never really went anywhere meaningful.

So I LOVE Mikasa and would just like to defend my girl a bit. I feel like you're making a bad assumption that a good character needs character development. Mikasa is a good character BECAUSE she's stuck in this limbo of love and/or stockholm syndrome. Her never really growing out of that isn't inherently bad; in fact it's very human. Not to mention the show does a brillant job of exploring her stagnant mental state. You're also forgetting that she is quite literally the most important character to in AoT. She was one that made the choice that ended the titan era. Mikasa's love for eren is directly paralleled with Ymir's love for King Fritz and this is one of the shows most fundamental dynamics. "To you, 2000 years from now" is directed to Mikasa. It's Ymir reaching out to Mikasa. She isn't just some add-on badass, Eren literally tells you she's the most important character in the universe during that talk with Armin. She, just like Ymir, has to choose between a dark unwavering love and her own moral compass. She, unlike Ymir, chooses latter and not the former. Ymir's, the founder, entire motivation throughout the show is getting to the point that Mikasa is quite literally to be either the one that kills Eren or let her love be complacent in a genocide. By the end of the show, everyone that isn't a titan is incapable of killing Eren including Levi. This is when she gets the displeasure of making the show's most important decision. Her killing Eren is quickly parallel with Ymir letting Fritz get killed by that spear. These character explorations and parallels are only possible because of how stagnant and unwavering her mental state is, just like Ymir's unwavering slave mentality. The gravity of her love wouldn't feel as real without three seasons of depicting just how unwavering it is. Mikasa is who she is for so long because it's necesarry to renforce those characters with the audience that much. We NEED to see how much she loves Eren to fully understand the gravity of her having to be the one to decapitate him.

If only she had something else to develop except for her obsession but she didn't which means it's pointless to be invested in her story and arc. The Azumabito subplot went nowhere just like her ackerman ethnicity and powers exploration, she didn't have chemistry with levi, armin, jean, sasha, annie and even eren. Why are we supposed to care? If she wasn't meant to let eren go, she shouldn't have had so much screentime

You can say all you want but I feel there is a lot of misconceptions about Mikasa’s character. She is not only a strong soldier in the Survey Corps. But a strong woman that is motivated by the people she loves. She has stick to that motivation consistently and did everything in her power to make sure her goals stay alive until she has to face the unfortunate reality that Mikasa is gonna have to betray her goals and motivation for the greater good. Her only regret I honestly believe is her not telling Eren her true feelings in the final season of Attack on Titan when she is so fixated on her role as his protector (as she promised his mother Carla asked her in Season 1).

In some way that's kinda the point, Eren even says because of her Ackermann blood shes like a slave that just follows orders for the person she needs to protect. Ever since he saved her, she's followed, listened, and protected him through everything without question. Only when it's something so horrible, is she able to question her loyalty. But yes she could have had more personality and charm

And really, well, on the fundamental level, that may be true, tho that’s only a setup for her growth/character arc, again, *on that front,* that basically all occurs throughout the very last, & all consecutively following one another, of the story’s arcs, ending with the ultimate final resolution of the story that she enacts (by sliding Eren’s head off); btw, she was
And before that could ever happen, so as to prevent her from being ‘’stale’’, like how you’re denoting her, & give her character some additional depth & quality all throughout the story, & ultimately so as to strengthen that overall, superficial (but in no way aesthetic or shallow, by that term in its normal sense) layer to her character[‘s] development… I think that she has a lot of these other layers, like, & as in, those (relatively) little/smaller details to her -personality- *fundamental being/identity,* themselves growing during the story *up to/until that point,* that got their little moments, like appetizers, *preparations for* or just small embellishers/complementers/additions that specifically improve their final brethren : The final lesson of how to be able to let go of those you truly love specifically as/for who they are as such (e.g. Having to choose Erwin over Armin, is really a lot like how she had to be able to *cut* Eren - ‘’out of her life/future’’ - for good once given the proper chance)

I could be wrong, but I think Mikasa doesn't develop as a character because she is in survival mode. Her two best friends are a suicidal bastard and a weak genius, and the three are caught up in the most dangerous situations. So she probably doesn't dedicate time to develop her own personality.

mikasa's character conclusion allows us to see love in a nuanced way
just because you love someone, doesn't mean you have to follow everything they do, but just because the person you love has changed doesn't mean that you don't deserve to mourn the person they used to be.
mikasa CHOOSES to oppose eren and fights for what she believes in, but that doesn't mean that she should hate him now.
i dont know why people want mikasa's love for eren to be shown in negative light so bad, her love for him shows how love can be something poetically beautiful and how it can also lead to self sabotage or vulnerability.
the moment mikasa wraps the scarf around herself before killing eren it's symbolic of where love should lie in our lives.
rather than something that holds us back from being who we are, it should be something that helps us find who we are, mikasa's pride, her inner and outer strength and her deep belief that, in her own words "life is a miracle" are what make her character, and it's a shame that people trivialize and belittle her character arc just because they trivialize themes of love in general.
anyways i could talk about her for hours, and she's definitely the most well written female character in the show and i can explain in detail why and what makes her so incredible.

While I have nothing to say about Mikasa here. The way you showed her relationship and bond with Eren just convinced me of one irony about Star Wars. In Star Wars, there are many Sith characters. But a few of them lived up to the Sith ideology like Darth Sidious. The irony here is that Eren Yeager himself here is the most Sith character and also the greatest enbodiment of the Sith ideology I ever seen to the point that surpassing many of the Sith characters in Star Wars as well.

I personally feel like the worst character in AOT was Historia. I understand a little bit more about what her role is in the series, but overall I feel like she was just set up to be one giant red herring. They kept dangling the idea in the last season that she was going to have a more important role, the two most obvious being that she would be eaten or that she herself would become a titan. Yeah, I know her family being royalty was integral for the plot, but I just feel like she has a character could’ve had a more interesting arc.

Yeah, no. I'm sorry, I am, but I am SICK of this argument always coming up. She's not bland, she's not wooden, she's SIMPLE. My god, I don't get why this is so hard for people to get. Some people don't want or need a lot in life to be happy and content. In the AoT world, that is probably a good way to stay sane, find the thing that helps give you a reason to continue on. And of course its going to be Eren to Mikasa! I don't understand this HATRED for her simply being loyal to Eren, one of the last two people in her life after losing EVERYONE. I hate to break this to you people, but wanting to protect and NOT kill someone you love, regardless of what they've done, is perfectly NORMAL. People like you, that make these rants about a her "lack of development" are literally looking for any and all reasons to hate her character because you can't seem to aceppt that "simple" doesn't mean "bad" characters.

I'll be honest, for a moment I was really, really worried you were going to say Levi, which would make the video hard to watch for me, because like almost everyone who watches AoT, I'm a huge fan of his, for obvious reasons. The guy is just a super cool dude who beats everyone, it's not hard to like him, it's not at all. But I was worried because, even though I'm a huge fan of his, I can understand people who would say that he suffers from what I call the "Jack Sparrow Syndrome", which I use as a description for characters who don't really have any real visible development. and who, even in their first scene, are perfect and who can handle any situation without particular difficulty in most cases. Because this is Jack Sparrow, he appears in the first movie and he's a perfect already established character who's already perfect, as much as a drunken pirate can be perfect, but you know what I mean, there's no real development and for 3 sequels they just can't find a way to develop him in any way, this character is practically dead as a character. Unfortunately, the same can be said about Levi, in my opinion, I would not agree with 100 projects and would rather argue, but I can see how some people would say this as an argument, because for example - tell me what is the difference between Levi in season 1 and Levi in season 4, I'll tell you, nothing, he's the same. It can be argued that in season 3 he learned to be more understanding of the others and so on, but he had this quality from before, so I don't think that counts, and even if it counted, it's not much. Even so, I still think he's the best character in AoT, not the best written, oh no, but just,, this guy has some inexplicable charisma that just puts him above the rest for me, besides, he has the most badass scenes out of everyone, and he's way more badass than mikasa.
But anyway, I digress a lot. Now on the topic. I, like most people, love AoT with all my heart, for obvious reasons, and I like everything about it, but that doesn't mean I can't give an objective opinion. With that in mind, yes, I agree with everything you said about Mikasa. I don't know she's really a very strange character, leave that she has almost no development in the whole series and almost nothing is known about her as far as things that interest her as a character other than that she more or less lives for Eren, leave that, but her behavior too she is very strange, sometimes she acts like a robot and not so much like a person, she is very strange and not in a good way. I agree with what you said and I even dare to add that even in the last season, even though her character development is supposedly starting, she still does almost nothing, she literally just stands there and looks shocked most of the time, which is actually what many characters do in last season mainly because of Eren, she occasionally fights and kills people and asks herself philosophical questions about her relationship with Eren , and of course the word Eren, is most of her dialogue. I still like her in general, because let's not lie, there's a lot to like about her, but she's not a good example of a well-developed character unlike her stepbrother and lover.

@@D14MBK You're a prime reason why Mikasa stans are a laughing stock. You just say other popular characters are the worst, just because you can't accept anyone pointing out the major flaws of her character. There's a reason why the fandom has downgraded her. She has done nothing of relevance for a main character. It would have been forgiveable if she was a side character, but no, she's a main character. Levi had done way more in one season than Mikasa has ever done in the entire series. Name me one thing Mikasa has done that's been more relevant than what Levi has done Mikasa had some good moments in Season 1 but as of now, she is a wrecked lapdog. Don't deny it.

So character that is well written but I just don't like
Zeke Yeager, his whole Philosophy Is extremely flawed and He Just seemed to have a defeatist attitude on the world Plus He is the most sadistic out of The Titan shifters and showed no remorse for his actions such as Brutally having Miche torn apart by Titans, And how he took pleasure in murdering Hundreds of scouts. honestly Enjoyed watching Levi beat the crap out of him and he's the only Titan shifter I don't sympathize with too much, Like with Reiner, Annie and Bertholdt you Could see that they didn't enjoy what they were doing and they were Just doing what they had to And Obviously regretted it in Reiner and Annies case but Zeke never Apologized at all and Was Routing against his own people practically .

Yea no I’m gonna have to disagree.
I personally view her as being one dimensional for most of the series as intentional.
One of the main themes of the story is that people are always a slave to something and it’s when we let go of the thing that’s keeping us slaves, that we are truly free.
We are shown that Mikasa is a slave to Eren through her own volition, but it never ends well for her. It’s only when she finally lets go of him that she finally is free herself.
I will concede however that Isayama could have done better conveying this, but I’m not going to go as far as to say she’s a bad character.
