The Shy in the past 2 series has gone 2/22. He has been on a big slump, but I've never seen a player better than him at his peak. He still randomly becomes that guy, but it seems to be less often.
He is, if not the mos studied player in LPL since 2018. I could see it's more or less the same case in Worlds. He single handily remade Top lane in pro play, through sheer skill, mechanics, wits, and this daunting play style, not through some meta champs, builds or stats. I respect him for that. If nothing else, at least he made it a bit more entertaining for viewers.
To the kids who never know who The Shy was, having the privilege to watch The Shy in 2018 was a bless and remember about those memories always giving me a goosepump.
TheShy should be able to finally get his MSI title this spring. He is playing with the the king of spring, Xiaohu, after all. Weibo will win spring, and then MSI.
If Karsa plays like he's been playing then 100% possible. Looks like he found his form again. Xiaohu is legit one of the goats, legit right behind faker and rookie. Don't think he's had a really bad season.
Rookie and TheShy are best laners to ever play the game for their respective roles and the meta suited them in 2018 world's. After winning world's TheShy probably lost his hunger and just didn't care enough to stay at his peak form, being in relationship, having money etc does that to most pro player's. We might never see a Rookie/TheShy kind of dominant solo lanes ever again.

Chovys playstyle is more of lane farming. Rookie is taking aggressive trades every time and he wins most of the times, and gets Kane dominance that ways. I doubt you know more about league than Chovy himself. Peak ThyShy 2018-19 was best laner, only way to stop him was camping him. No one comes close to peak ThyShy in top lane. 2013 Faker was great, 14 Pawn dominated him, go watch old LCK matches and PawN was dubbed Faker killer and in old PawN interviews he never gave zfaker godlike respect which every caster used to give.

@@21___dcy Again you are missing the point, both Chovy and Rookie have different laning play style and they are the best in their respective style, Chovy plays dominates lane to farm, while Rookie plays to dominate lane by taking aggressive trades, in soloQ/scrims he takes every trade and more often than not wins as said in interviews by many pros. Rookies play style is a better version of how lane dominance works hence he gets the tag of best laner. Today's Rookie has dialled down a little on his play style and focuses more on roaming to get other lanes ahead but 2015-2020 Rookie was just too far ahead.

Chovy single handedly lost the series vs t1 just yesterday by chilling mid as viktor while faker is running around on annie winning his team the game.
The reason so many people consider TheShy the best top laner in China, is because he ended the dark time of S5-S7. I mean those were the times that no one dared to do outplays. If they were behind, they would literally stay in the tower the whole day. TheShy completely changed the playstyles of LPL players. In my opinion no one can beat the 2018 IG (literally everyone was at their peak, and unlike most LPL teams, they dared to fight) so TS, Ning, Rookie, Jackeylove, Baolan. I mean particularly in the match against G2, in the river that 1 strike 4 with Aatrox Q3, that is why most people loved him.
He's one of my Favorite players of all time, huge inspiration. For me, there's an argument that there haven't been as insanely innovative players as the likes The Shy, Khan and i'd mention Doinb.

Honestly I don't think IG was even actually a good team. They could demolish every oponent based on pure skill and aggressiveness. No big macro plays needed, no adapation to the enemies. Just destroy everyone before they can react. It is actually amazing that they managed to win worlds based just on that, but they did. And Rookie and TheShy were the key players of that huge skill gap.

Unless Zeus and YSKM keep on improving at a dramatic rate, it will take a very long time for us to get the top laner who will surpass the peak TheShy had. He was just that good.
Honestly, out of the the players and playstyles. TheShy is THE most entertaining to watch. He has the balls to do what no other player will do. Success or failure I just love his style.

Really well put! I remember really well that semis against FPX he was carrying IG at their first win and in game 4 they fell short and he blundered a couple times, later on FPX won it all. That's The Shy 🤷♂, but he still remains as my fav player with Rookie, cuz they won Worlds by smashing their opponents, in my opinion that hasn't happened again, you could say Nuguri and SM(didn't win worlds by having this exact playstyle) or Kingen and Zeka(They destroyed some lanes, but not too much, only Zeka vs Scout)
Prime TheShy turned counterplay into advantage state, shiet was unreal to watch. It was like he would wait for his opposing laner to be at their most confident and that was when he would strike. High risk high reward, beat your opponent at their best and what do they tell themselves after that? "We fought when the odds were stacked in my favor and he still won, what more can I possibly do?" And you could see in the play of the opposing top lane their confidence was gone, it was no longer about winning it was about survival.
I really like the going theory that TheShy just got bored and is just playing like a complete coinflip player because he just tries whatever. His cockiness during some series in this video kind of supports that theory.
TheShy still has one of the most dominant laning phase in the world, he just often int with his macro plays. If he gets ganked, he somehow doesn't lose much cs. If he doesn't get ganked, he can get a gold lead so large that he becomes a raid boss once more.
I thought you'd mention the 0/14 in a playoffs (or Worlds qualifier? I don't remember) on kennen. But the video was great nonetheless. I hope we see Weibo at Worlds this year, just to see how they fare

I've always thought that Mata and Dandy's worlds performance in s4 worlds is still the among the best tournament peaks in history, and I honestly feel that way about ZEKA's now too.
Actually Theshy had never reach his biggest possibility, starting form 2018, he was one of the best to laner at that time, then surprisingly int he next year, he becomes the most domonanting top laner in the League of Legends history pro plays. Most importantly, he achived these with an arm injury which seirously impacts his movements. At last just take a second and imagine how it looks like if he actually had the chance to redeem every piece of his talent

Unless Zeus and YSKM keep on improving at a dramatic rate, it will take a very long time for us to get the top laner who will surpass the peak TheShy had. He was just that good.

As we speak he started 2023 in a monster form. Then in his recent 5 games he went 2/25, it’s sucha shame because everyone knows TheShy is probably the scariest player in the world when he is in top form.

He was underrated in 2019 , he and jackeylove single handedly carried a out of form ig to worlds that year. In spring 2019 , the shy was undefeatable in lane and if not for the team issue , they would have won both Msi and worlds
yep, and in msi they were just plagued by internal issues apparently, but watching ig in spring 2019 looked like ig was playing the game at 2x speed and every other team was playing in 1x speed, and i also think its not fair to pin the failure to carry against fpx solely on him given the fact that he was the only reason they were still in the game at that point.

Really well put! I remember really well that semis against FPX he was carrying IG at their first win and in game 4 they fell short and he blundered a couple times, later on FPX won it all. That's The Shy 🤷♂, but he still remains as my fav player with Rookie, cuz they won Worlds by smashing their opponents, in my opinion that hasn't happened again, you could say Nuguri and SM(didn't win worlds by having this exact playstyle) or Kingen and Zeka(They destroyed some lanes, but not too much, only Zeka vs Scout)
Prime TheShy turned counterplay into advantage state, shiet was unreal to watch. It was like he would wait for his opposing laner to be at their most confident and that was when he would strike. High risk high reward, beat your opponent at their best and what do they tell themselves after that? "We fought when the odds were stacked in my favor and he still won, what more can I possibly do?" And you could see in the play of the opposing top lane their confidence was gone, it was no longer about winning it was about survival.
I stopped watching competitive for a while and was in disbelief seeing TheShy violated by Zeus in a Worlds final
I really like the going theory that TheShy just got bored and is just playing like a complete coinflip player because he just tries whatever.

TheShy still has one of the most dominant laning phase in the world, he just often int with his macro plays. If he gets ganked, he somehow doesn't lose much cs. If he doesn't get ganked, he can get a gold lead so large that he becomes a raid boss once more.

I've always thought that Mata and Dandy's worlds performance in s4 worlds is still the among the best tournament peaks in history, and I honestly feel that way about ZEKA's now too.
Zeka is what BDD wanted to be for the last few years.
Actually Theshy had never reach his biggest possibility, starting form 2018, he was one of the best to laner at that time, then surprisingly int he next year, he becomes the most domonanting top laner in the League of Legends history pro plays. Most importantly, he achived these with an arm injury which seirously impacts his movements. At last just take a second and imagine how it looks like if he actually had the chance to redeem every piece of his talent
