Cooking, cookery, or culinary expressions is the craftsmanship, science, and art of utilizing hotness to plan nourishment for utilization.
Cooking methods and fixings shift generally, from barbecuing food over an open fire to utilizing electric ovens to baking in different sorts of stoves, reflecting neighbourhood conditions.
At its most basic, cooking means applying heat to food. Whether the food is baked, fried, sautéed, boiled, or grilled, it's all cooking.
Evidence suggests our ancestors began cooking over an open fire over 2 million years ago.
People still cook some foods over an open flame, in addition to using tools like microwaves toasters, and stovetops.

Looks like another yummy recipe! Church in the kitchen ... brought me back to when I was a child (I'm 60yrs young now). If we couldn't get to church (which was very seldom - we usually attended church morning service, Sunday school, and then late night service ... where sometimes we didn't get out till after midnight.) Anyway, if we didn't get to church, my Mother would have the old woodstove going, chairs around it and then she would teach us a Sunday school lesson with felt backed pictures. She would use a flannel blanket to put them on ... and we would have church in our kitchen by the woodstove! My Mother is in Heaven now but when I left home, I went looking for my Mother to say good bye. I couldn't find her until I went to her bedroom door and there she was kneeling - saying prayers (for me I bet. I was the youngest - and most rebellious! I took a picture of her then and have painted it several times for my siblings. She was a godly woman... a Proverbs woman if there ever was one! - You are too!) Thanks for the memory. Keep the church in the kitchen ... it is good! :)

I'm in my 70's and I remember when I was just a kid, my parents and my great grandparents using a horse to walk around the huge pot they made molasses in. They used the sugar cane and stripped it down. I was too young to remember everything but I remember thinking it was fun. There wer neighbors there helping make it also. My Daddy loved molasses on a good ole homemade biscuit. I have a refrigerator muffin recipe that you use molasses in. It is delicious.

I loved to eat molasses by heating them in a cast iron skillet and add a pinch of baking soda, causing them to get foamy then serve it with a biscuit. DELICIOUS!!

My husband, bless him, is “as slow as molasses in winter time”!
Hon if you spray your measuring cup with that non-stick spay (like PAM) then your
Molasses will come out “licitly split” (old term my momma uses). 😃

O my goodness these are delicious. I had to make a grocery list to pick up the molasses. I mixed these up this morning the pan is almost gone. I can't tell you how thankful to you I am for all the wonderful instructional videos you have made. I missed the first cookbook keeping my fingers crossed for another reprint of book # 1. I did manage to order book # 2. Praying to receive it soon. You are a amazing blessed lady.

Sounds good......do you ever make Ginger Bread Cake ? Been trying to find some gingerbread at a bakery, but guess no one makes it anymore.....so it's looking like if I get any, I will have to make my own.....and seems not many people make it .....it is delicious with a cup of coffee.....and a cream cheese frosting.....do you have a recipe ? I was wondering if your Ginger Cream cake remind you of gingerbread.... since it called for ginger......!!! It used to be a favorite at Christmas, but I guess not any more.....
My youngest granddaughter now a Sophomore in College makes a gingerbread house every year for Christmas and has all of her life.....we used to help her with it when she was very small, but now her & one of her friends each made their own.....no one eats them but her Dad....he always took the Gingerbread to his office (he's a Pastor) and kept it there, and I guess he'd eat some of it every time he was in his office.....until it was gone......so not sure if he ended up this year with both or not her friend may have taken hers home........she has not missed one Christmas making & decorating her Gingerbread House.....her Mom has all pictures too, which is so cool, so if she ever gets married and has kids , maybe they will carry on with the tradition.......I always had a bite of it......I prefer the cookies or just the gingerbread cake.....the house was too hard to eat....lol.....but her Dad sure does enjoy getting it after the holidays LOL.....What memories they have..... how many teenager girls do you know that has done that ?.....and still doing it ? ....Not many for sure.....

I noticed White Lilly flour mentioned in the title. My favorite flour by the way. This week, in December of 2022, self rising, White Lilly flour, 5 pound bag, was $7.99 at our only local grocery store in decent driving distance 😢 I never dreamed I would see the day. Even the cheap stuff was $5.99. It'll do, until prices come down.

I remember going to my great-grandma's house and it seemed like no matter what time we got there, morning, lunch time or supper time, she always had hot fresh biscuits and I'd cut one in half and put some butter and then pour molasses over it. I think that's where I get my love for Dark Karo syrup (the one with the blue label). It's the only kind of syrup I will eat. I love it on pancakes, waffles or even just a piece of toast.

Molasses is easy to find. I use it every winter to make my Grandmother's recipe for Boston Baked Beans.( I was born in Boston, grew up in Lexington,, but spent most of my life in Virginia) The Molasses can be found i the bakery/sugar area in the grocery store. It comes in an 8 or 10ish ounce glass jar.

My aunt Edith used to use molasses and make donuts. Molasses cookies. And molasses cake. Well my mother did too. These three were my daddy‘s favorite things. He even put molasses and we did put molasses on our pancakes. Whenever mom made molasses cookies my dad would put butter on them and eat them right out of the oven.We also put molasses on hot buttered biscuits

Ms. Brenda & Others: For your information if baking you can take a lightly beaten egg white only and pour it into your measuring cup then add
your shortening, peanut butter or molasses. The egg white will help the shortening and etc. easily pour out of your measuring cup. You may think of other ways to use this tip. Remember only use this tip if you are baking the mixture because of the raw egg.

Kay? McQueen? No, I don't know her. I used to have a picture in my kitchen that was a wedding gift from my grandma. She said her neighbor painted it. It's pink and red flowers. It's the only thing she gave me besides my momma! Lol ; ) I have a little church in my kitchen too, my church friends cookbooks. Some of them have long passed on, but their recipes are Alive and Well in those cookbooks! I expected you'd say Ruby's sisters were all named after other gems like Pearl and Diamond? or Sapphire? or Emerald? Wouldn't that be fun? ; ) I love, love, love molasses and it's in brown sugar and I love the dark. I quit buying the light. Some people even make their own brown sugar! I tried that once. I put dark brown sugar in my coffee. I wonder how it'd taste with molasses? Now ya got me thinkin'! ; )
