Remarkable that a Star Wars show, acted by children, did a fantastic of talking about disability in a way that allowed people watching with disabilities to be seen, and did it in a non-preachy way (in terms of popular media, it's one of the best representations in a long, long time) That was exceptional writing, directing and acting - these kids all have bright futures if they want to continue to be actors. And Kyriana Kratter? Nailed it.
also love how it adds much more to the other movies. All these extras in the background of all the movies and shows with fancy gear on their heads? No longer just decorations, it tells much more of a story to recognize who they are. I loved it
@@CommadoreGothnogDragonheart Agreed. It was a handheld torch that made him a hero. Sometimes the smallest things mean the most in forging lifelong friendships.
I'm definitely with Hector. When kids watch this Star Wars series now and get excited, it's like when we were kids and saw Star Wars for the first time.
I love to see how positively people are responding to KB's story. Hollywood doesn't have a great track record regarding nuanced portrayal of people who have different levels of ability.
Protect Bryce Dallas Howard at all cost. She gets what makes Star Wars tick. I thinks it's time to give her a film of her own to direct if not a Star Wars trilogy.
Captain Rennod makes it a point to mention how he's reinforced the armoring of the ship in his holo they watched in his lair, combined with SM-33s warning about the switch, brings it all to this moment of the episode.
@@alexdavis-mann8513 correct- in the recording - “Captain log” “ I had the Armored and ready for departure “ ( paraphrased) but a lot of reaction channels have been overlooking this for some reason. ( only one I seen mention it was Generation Tech but he’s not a reactor) lol…. Even episode one. The introduction epilogue said that Pirates “” Boldly Brand their “ Armored Hulls” most pirates ships would be smaller and Faster but need heavier Armor and more powerful weapons. To take out escort ships and stop larger vessels that have cargo.
The 1st thing I thought of with KB's performance was a kid with diabetes experiencing their sugar levels bottom out. I've seen that happen in real life and she did a brilliant job portraying it.
The Star Wars universe can support high quality stories as polar opposite in tone as Andor and Skeleton Crew. You don’t need constant Skywalker callbacks or cheap fan service. Tell good stories that trusts the audience’s intelligence. I love this show.
Also to add,..as we get more character development from the kid's characters, this is where they earn the name, "Skeleton Crew" the kid's realize they have a pilot, a navigator, a engineer, a gunner & a captain, a bare bones crew. I like that they didn't flat out say the title of the show, but is something the audience puts together as we follow them on their journey. Such a great show, I had no idea I'd like it this much. Loved watching it with you guys.... great content.
KB is the best. The kids all coming together to get the ship working, the best. Kids as besties all learning and growing together, best best best. And the eventual lego model of the Onyx Cinder with breakaway armor shell that we all know we NEED, will be the best.
As someone who is in a wheelchair I'm glad that they made KB physically disabled in a way and if she's the first Star Wars character that's disabled I want them to make a disabled jedi character
Look up Tenel Ka Djo from Legends. She attended Luke's Academy as a teenager. There was a training accident with lightsabers and lost an arm. For cultural reasons she did not get a cybernetic replacement like Luke. She became a full Jedi. Ascended to the throne of her home world. Hooked up with Jacen Solo and mothered Han and Leia's granddaughter.
@streakermaximus oh yeah I remember her cause I finished The Fate Of The Jedi book series not that long ago but I didn't know she was missing an arm thanks for telling me though
Technically Vader and Luke were the first disabled Jedi. Heck with the lightsaber’s propensity for cutting off limbs, disabled Jedi should be more frequent
My current theory about KB's accident is that she was in some kind of crash where she took a sharp blow to the back of the head, virtually destroying parts of the brain used both for motor control and vision, so the implants take their place. When the fuse failed it was probably making it infinitely harder for signals to get to the rest of her body. My current thought is the crash was in a hoverbike crash with Fern. Just a guess.
I don't think the accident had anything to do with Fern, or we would be seeing guilt from her. She would have felt terrible! Maybe she just fell out of a tree or something.
It doesn't matter. It's just her condition. If this was set in our modern world her back story on how she found out she was a Type 1 diabetic wouldn't be important to the story. Other than to use it for plot conveniences and character growth. Which is exactly what they did here.
@ghostdreamer7272 agree totally. KB is just above Neel though with this episode. And with her being able to basically interface with droids and computers, I get the feeling she will end up being more important than she seems at the moment.
‘Claimzees, on the new ship!’ What an awesome episode. I’ve been enjoying this series. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Skeleton Crew. Howard needs her own SW film project. Neel Nation!
Had Wem and KB gone to climb, what would have happened with them when KB froze up? And had Fern and Neel gone with Wem and KB, no one would have been around to rescue them.
This show is amazing! 😄❤️ But I'm not so sure kids want to be kids in the playground... maybe sometimes. It's an option, for sure. But I was a kid when Goonies came out, and what I enjoyed in the movie was the piratey stuff. Yeah, it was cool that they were kids, but to play I would play the pirates, the Jedi, the scoundrels (I was a Han Solo kid)... But it's great to have such kind of characters, I think, because it's part of being human. We all were kids someday. There are kids too in the Star Wars universe, and at some point it's cool to show it. Also, these kids are AMAZING ACTORS!!! At no moment I'm taken out of the story because of acting, on the contrary, they draw us into it! Also, it's great as an adult to see kids well done in a story like this, because it's fun, and the kids feel real, they have conflicts, they are growing up, learning about the dangers of life, learning to work together, help each other... all they have is each other. I love KB, the way she smiles and says "thanks, Jedi!" That was magical! ❤
Crazy well done... BTW if there are any jedi fallen order players the planet does have some similarities to where we first see Cal (scrapper planet). Also loved Wim and KB's interaction... Still though I really am going to feel for wim when he discovers the fate of the jedi!
There will be more crew added, there's an early promo pic with the kids, Jude and several other pirates on the Onyx Bridge, which indicates in the Finale the new Onyx and Crew head out for the next adventure in 2.0
This was my favorite episode so far and it comes as little surprise that it is directed by BDH. The emotional resonance in this episode is crazy good and it was largely thanks to KB's performance that wrecked me.
These kids are metamorphosizing before our very eyes into a more cohesive team of beautiful butterflies, symbolized in the shedding of the rougher exterior of the pirate ship to reveal their sleeker new wings more their size. It's as if they unfolded their beautiful wings from a chrysalis of a more self-conscious adolescence into a capable pilot, navigator, gunner, etc. They're better now for what awaits them in the skies as freshly emerged young butterflies and unlikely but true heroes and role models.
Good call on the lack of true kid centered stories that show ingenuity. Growing up in the 80’s, we had a ton of that content to watch and i wish my kids had those same shows to watch.
I’ll tell you my 9yo LOVES this show and cannot wait until the next episode every time. For me I’ll always love the droid and SM-33 is no different but in this show no one better hurt KB. I had her number since episode one and I knew she would be one of my favorites
This show is so much fun. It's such a fun adventure with wonder. 2 things I kinda feel like have been missing from Star Wars since maybe Solo or TFA. What a beautifully wholesome show.
Thanks to Adam, Hector and Agustin! ✨💀✨ Kudos to Hector for recognizing 'Ubbla Mollbro', the operatic singer from THE LAST JEDI... or a similar-looking member of her Xi'Dec species.
To add to the DC or Marvel kids segments like Thor love and thunder, but, shazam and all the kids getting grown up powers, was amazing as well. and i agree, more of that is what we need
Bryce Dallas Howard is turning into a bit of Star Wars' Ol' Reliable. She has yet to really miss when in the director's chair for Star Wars. Maybe it's time to let her have a go at putting on a movie. 5:20 A... female Clone Trooper? Besides even if she were, she'd have to look really old at that point. Rex had a gut and a full grey beard and that was BEFORE the Battle of Yavin. This is 10 years later on top of that. 15:23 Tak Rennod's hologram last episode did say that he had the Onyx Cinder "clad in armor". Chekhov's armor done, i'd say.
You know, I just have to say, if they waited a few years for these kids to grow up a bit and made a show about them flying around the galaxy on an adventure with their ship, I would totally watch that. (They could even make it animated)
For me, each last episode has been the best which is rare because usually there is a dud episode somewhere in the batch…. My bold prediction is Wym vs Jod part 2 happens in the finale and like Rey, Wym maintains control of the lightsaber this time.
I love this show, but then I have enjoyed every Star Wars show to some degree or another, so it's interesting how universally loved this series has been. I really would not have picked this one, of all of them, to stand out from the onslaught of angry nerd fury everything else except Andor has gotten.
I love me some good Star Wars but at times the stuff going on is a little too convenient. I'm like convinced at this point that the entire Star Wars universe has Omega level characters that are completely invulnerable because of plot armor. The rest of the 99.99999% of the universe is essentially fooked and susceptible to death at any moment. Every one of the Omegas can touch any piece of technology regardless or age or upkeep and it will work as if it was recently manufactured it's more wild than Jedi powers. Can one character in any story just make a comment like dang, we're getting a little low on this extremely expensive fuel needed to power our rocket ships...Aside from those grievances I have about the universe and the fact there are four children Omega level characters, it's a fun adventure lol, still fun to watch.
