    The words "SOYA SOYA SOYA!" or "Sore Sore Sore!!" and such words are called
    Kakegoe (掛け声) usually refers to shouts and calls used in performances of traditional Japanese music, Kabuki theatre, and in martial arts such as kendo.
    In folk music some kakegoe are inserted in parts of song at will. Rather than names, kakegoe are usually words of encouragement for the musicians, singers, or dancers performing with the music. A commonly used word is "sore!", meaning "that", which conveys the sense "That's the way!", or "Just like that!"
    It's also used as a cheer of encouragement.
    And yes, Babymetal also uses it.
    Nemophila does some pretty good covers. Iron Maiden, Maximum The Hormone. They're great live.

      Don't forget the tittle "Oiran" is Japanese traditional high ranking courtesan. It mean this song write about Japanese traditional culture, a high ranking courtesan in Japanese history or something like that. It make sense when we hear "soya" or "sore" in this song

    Nemophila is a shocker of a group! I just found them this week. Amazing ladies and that voice! But I love the drummer who is a new mommy.

    Nemophila is a group of flowering plants. The word is a mix of Latin and Greek. Oiran were high-ranking courtesans in Japan.

    Thanks for the reaction. I was one of the people who requested it. I'm looking forward for your reaction to their other song Raitei.
    Fun fact, the drummer was pregnant at the time of this video, she had a baby earlier this year and is now back with the band.
    EDIT: Please add "Nemophila - Life" to the hat.

    Nemophila
    Neem-AH-fill-ah
    A scientific name for a genus of flowers with five petals. Five band members. Most of the species common names are some form of "Baby Blue Eyes" - native to North America but very popular in Japan - like all forms of rock.
    Both guitarists use 7 string guitars.
    All members have previous pro experience, the two guitarists are still in multiple projects. The best known is Mary's Blood, another all-female metal group where Saki (on our right) plays lead guitar. Drummer Tamu is also in high demand on other projects. But obviously all are great and in this group, their chemistry clicks beautifully.
    Very versatile group. Can do anything and it will be amazing.

    Not gonna lie,I like her vocals better than Lovebites. Love her vibrato. The guitars aren't very clean but it's fucking RAW! And I love raw! You should check out their cover songs to see how she sounds singing Iron Maiden and MTH.

    Great review. Nemophila is a lot of fun. The red headed guitarist is named Saki. Her nickname is Chuckie hence the T-shirt. Saki plays for another band called Mary's Blood. Watch their official video for the song Marionette. She does some insane solo work in that. There are a couple of live versions of it, but the sound quality is not as good, and her solos are harder to hear.

      @rickfromtexas4659 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisPage68 I don't know the story behind it. It may be because Saki and Chuckie sound similar. I have just read several references to her nickname from different sources.

  • @tamacro3
    @tamacro3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    She doesn't say "Soya". She says "Soiya".
    "Soiya" is a festival shout that is mainly transmitted to Asakusa in Tokyo.
    By the way, Babymetal also says "Soiya" in Megitsune.

    Great one! Please to Raitei by them, it will knock your socks off!
    One correction (as someone who's played 7-string guitars for years): you don't ALWAYS add low strings. You can just as well string a 7-String with an additional high string which for example opens up more soloing-options around the middle of the neck (where a lot of lead-players feel most comfortable). Same goes for 5-string basses.
    It's just more rarely done especiall in metal since a lot of metal uses low-tuned guitars anyways.

    • @MichaelReactstoMusic
      @MichaelReactstoMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      interesting, I've never seen that done. I guess i just assumed it was always a lower string. I mean i can see that working on a bass more easily than a guitar since the high E is such a thin string already. today i learned! Thanks! :)

    Yeah this is the first original song they put out. Due to COVID they had to do it a la garage band style but meh them's the breaks.
    Their other original songs so far to me are much less metal and closer to rock/hard rock/pop rock, however they're still good songs.
    I do think it's nice they have a lead singer open to harsh vocals, that is important for contemporary metal music, something I wish the band Lovebites could figure out
