Conrad is truly a master of language. His descriptions of the sea are just beautiful.

Conrad paints such a vivid image of pain, that it imparts this feeling within the reader like no other.
Another perfect reading sir, thank you!

That has to be one of the most heartbreaking tales I've heard in a long time. And thanks to the interpretation of the magnificent text, created by a master of language, each passage kept me both wanting more and simaltaneously fearing the outcome. One of the best examples I know depicting the evils of racism, making it for me impossible to brush aside as simply a "sad story". Though sad indeed, I fear the majority of those who listen will not truly hear.....😞

I agree deeply and wholeheartedly. Disturbingly tragic. Well written, very well acted. The ignorance of humans is so often unspeakable heartbreaking.

Agree with your assessment. Conrad was Polish and did not learn English until he was almost 30. He traveled the world in the merchant marine and so much of his writing touches on people's fear of each others differences. This story is tragic in the classical Greek sense.

this story only makes me angry. how could she!? ~ very Joseph Conrad - he is such an incredible writer. the emotion one feels coming from the pages is heartbreaking. . . and Mr. Wagland is an incredible reader - not overdone, and very poignant. thank you for this story - when a writer knows how to write and not just put words together, you linger over it like a truly good poem or melody. true genius. . .

You have got to watch the movie!! I feel like it does a really good job of adding perspective to how she could have done what she did. I love that the movie takes the books perspective from the doctors point of view, as only a part of the whole story and adds another perspective to give a more merciful explanation of Amys feelings. If you haven't already you should definitely watch it. I believe it is called Swept from the Sea.

That's one of the saddest stories ever written and I'm sure Greg's narration notched up the sadness a few notches,

How did I miss this reading? While you were reading the passage describing Amy Foster’s countenance and character I began to wonder, may chance...perhaps?... she, too, was once quarantined for an over -long duration ?

One of the rare instances where I do think the movie did it justice, both are heartbreaking. Hands down my favorite movie and an amazing book.
