You should do more videos like this and far fewer of the modern inline stuff. I have noticed that you have been doing more traditional muzzleloader videos lately.
The first 3 days of this Pa turkey season were WET. And the only days I was able to get out. So I didn't get any traditional videos made. Love this style of hunting.... Nice job! P.S. that tom was to close to call to....
Great video. I have been chasing turkeys for the past 10 years or so. If you ever want to meet up and talk, turkey calling, hunting setup etc. I am happy to share. I usually use a diaphram call but you've inspired me to dust of the Ole wingbone call.
Don’t stop! Great job on the video. Good to see someone getting out in the woods to hunt. I only made it out once this season. Great job with the wing bone call maybe just a little to much calling at times. Did you have to pull the barrel that didn’t go off or was it a blocked nipple? Again great job.
I really like it when guys use their muzzleloaders for what they were made for. Keep up the good work. Failure to get a turkey does not mean you failed. I’m sure you have a better plan for next time. Good luck!
Loved this video, really enjoyed it. Kept hoping you would get that turkey. I love turkey hunting done it for many years, although never with a muzzleloader or traditional gear. Thought your tactics were good, sometimes they just won’t around the corner those last few yards, part of the game, very unpredictable birds. Only thing you may have done differently is once he’s coming in stop calling, we have a tendency to over call, he knows where you’re at. Give him the silent treatment let him come to you once he’s close. However, no guarantee that would have worked either! Just my two cents! Great video and great hunt!
This took some serious camera and editing work. Thank you for all your hard work. My thoughts went right to ticks when I saw you crawling on the ground! Keep up the great work.
Hey Ethan! Hunting turkeys is hard enough! When you throw in a muzzleloader AND trying to video the hunt... it becomes even more challenging! Like most things in life... practice makes perfect. I hope that you do not get discouraged and continue to "take us along" with you on your excursions! All The Best!
All of your videos are awesome! The hunting and scouting videos give all of us an idea of what it was like back in the day. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your time and talents with us.
Great video. I would tell you to cover up more, but if the turkeys got that close maybe it wouldn’t matter. I think your on the right track using natural cover to your advantage.
Great video. We've all been there. I went all last year with out even getting a shot at a deer until almost the last day of the extended season in a special regulation area (2B in PA). I'll be looking forward to the next video, hit or miss.
Ohhh, that cap snap was disheartening. Those new fangled percussion guns will never catch on...🤣 Two tips on the hunting, when he's gobbling to your calls and coming he knows exactly where you are, too much calling too close scared those Toms. Shut up and let him come search for you, maybe do some scratching in the leaves next to you at most. At 10 yards don't move a muscle! Second, cover your hands. Soft brown cotton gloves, or smear mud on them if you have too, but that's a lot of pale skin flashing movement for a wise old turkey. But a great video and a fun hunt!
That's pretty much how my season proceeded this year. Only difference is I didn't snap off a cap on TC new englander. Next year I will have my .54 caliber flintlock smoothbore rifle up, and dialed in. Mountain man
I enjoyed the video. In this era of plenty, hunting is more about getting out into nature than anything else. If you happen to bag game that's great but it's not the entirety of the experience. Also, in this case getting all traditionally kitted out and setting upon the woods with an antique SXS must have been awesome.
Great Video. Im so glad your camera isnt from the1840's. I enjoyed the challenge of your hunt. I also enjoyed the lack of logos and gear pitches. Very Soothing to watch. I will at some point get a period garb.
You know they had slate calls back then too. just use a piece of slate cupped in your hand. With wingbone it's good to call them in from distance then you shut up and let them look for you maybe scratch the ground to entice them in a little closer. The other thing when you spook them give them 45min and change spots and try again. They think that thing scared the hen also as long as they don't know you were the one making the hen noises.
But 1 quick tip. When a turkey is actively walking towards me, I find it best to sit quietly and very, very still. Turkeys have great eyesight, some say similar to 10x binos. Also, turkeys can see 270 degrees. Lol. Again great video.
I think if you had more dark color may be the turkey get more close tu Shooting distance turkey can see very well my Friend Good luck next time Good Night
Did you clear your barrels after each day of hunting? Caplock not setting off the charge is really mystifying. I know black powder is scarce right now, but if you are hunting, that powder needs to be DRY and not left over from the day before.
I did not, looking back I should have. There was about 3 days of the shotgun sitting before that morning where the cap snapped. I took it home, and the 2nd cap ignited the charge. Same for the other barrel comically. I learned my lesson!
You got to understand that back then there was a lot more Wildlife than there is now and they were way less afraid of people because they were a lot less people in the beginning that is. But I enjoyed it just as much as you did being out there and I'm sure some of our forefathers had the same type of experience that you had of no luck this time but then also they didn't have to wait for a hunting season because then hunting season was in everyday as far as they were concerned. Very good. Enjoy this a lot and if you want to do more I will definitely watch. Good luck next time.
Turkey hunting is not as easy as the hunting shows make it out to be. I've only been able to get out once this season, hoping to get out Sunday, but I had my doglock carbine with me, and I had a tom respond with a gobble or two, but he never came in so either he wasn't interested or he had hens he wasn't going to leave.
Enjoyed the video, hunting does not always end up with meat on the table. If you came away from the experience with more knowledge on how to trick these wary birds it was worth the effort. I personally got busted twice this year and learned from my mistakes and hope to do better next year. Sad to hear the cap go off with no boom to follow.
I would have so much fun, gorgeous terrain, nature with my flintlock just trekking. Even if my only shot was fired to clear the weapon at the end of the day.
@@ILoveMuzzleloading Ethan allot of people who have channels are a bit know it all or smug whatever the subject is. I find you are very genuine and leave ego at the door. And I think that is really cool. To me there is nothing like muzzleloading, I find it really calming as silly as that sounds.
@@ILoveMuzzleloading i work for a utility company and pre-season our trucks are hitting turkeys on the road. When the season starts you cant find a one. %)
I enjoyed the hunt video. You were so close! But that is hunting. Keep up the good work. A suggestion, your white cuffs sure seemed visible sticking out of your jacket.,
Drop a little powder in your nipples before capping them, help with ignition You need to take a call too that will produce a whines. That will sometimes bring in a Tom that is is hung up just out of range. An old timers trick is if you have a Tom that is hung up fairly close to max range, wait till he is facing you, and shoot over his head, and a lot of times he will fly straight to you. I’m just not sure how much leeway you have with a muzzleloader shotgun using that trick though
When female turkeys are ready… they run up to the make and present their booty and do the thang. When they hear you are close… and you don’t run up and give up the booty…. They get confused. It’s not normal. Great video! Way to keep at em! I don’t think he ever saw you or he’s gone. Not coming back usually. They get fired up and so crazy stuff though. I’ve had to run jakes off after I shot a bird before. They wouldn’t leave that booty.
Wearing white, red, blue or black is very dangerous in the turkey woods. Because these are the colors of the bird. I understand the desire to hunt in a traditional attire, so be very careful and sure of who is around you. I have killed a few Missouri Gobblers with a 10ga Muzzleloader, It's quite the rush.
Thanks Griz! I have a bit of a buffer as this is private land, but I appreciate the safety reminder. Next year I'm planning to do better! Congrats on your Missouri Gobblers!!

@I Love Muzzleloading I took a moose in Newfoundland with my custom .54 cal flint. I have carried that several times elk hunting in Wyoming. But because of weather or not hearing/ seeing elk and time constraints I end up switching to my 30-06. 😞
Great effort Ethan poor caps. Bad cap is just as bad as a poor set up flintlock. It sucks when you don't hear that bang.😂. I had a 12 point buck once. Walk right up to me . I pull the trigger on my flintlock and clank nothing. I could touch him with the barrel What a moment. I reset the cock and flash in the pan and he was gone. After that I am very fussy with my lock set up.
I wish I could do something like this but when living in the city there's not much to do besides sit at home and watch tv or goto the theater and watch movies. Why are we here, just to suffer?

I like this type of content in your mix of other videos. I mean no insult but you are kind of the Bob Ross of the muzzleloader community.
OMG this BR thing is a Family Joke! just the knowing know!

What a great way to hunt turkey ! I must get a m.l. shotgun now to drive myself crazy trying to get a bird with it. Great video.

I think it was a blocked nipple, 2 caps at home and it went off.
